I sighed and opened the door to come down from the car. There was no point making the interaction wait because it was going to happen anyway. I only hoped that Alex was spared and it didn’t end with him being locked up like the last time we were seen together.
Before I could get to him though, he covered the distance between us and stood in front of me. I waited for him to ask me the regular disparaging questions he asked when he saw me with a male that wasn’t him. I braced myself for it because I was getting used to it already. That was what my life was now; dealing with insufferable men one at a time like I was their mother catering to their needs.
