Chapter 19

1445 Words
Axel looks at the sizable wolves around him as they run together. They are fast and agile considering their large size. The moon goddess really didn’t let him down with her choices, he believed in her choices blindly and he is happy to find that it has worked out so well. The moon goddess paired him with the best part of himself, the person that makes everything better so Axel will always believe in the moon goddess. Whether it is in their human form or in their wolf form, they are highly trained and skillful. Even though some of their wolves are relatively new, it can be seen that they have been training hard. Axel can appreciate the fact, it is hard to keep up with a pack, still go to school in some cases, have a mate and manage to train to be at peak physical condition, even though this is rigorous training. This may be the most leisurely day that they have all had in a while. It is funny how that is. Sometimes, even if you can appear to be busy, if you are just doing one task without a million other pressing issues weighing you down all the time, it can actually feel like a break. The group of four runs faster and faster. The boys don’t need to talk out their issues to have a better understanding of each other, to work better as a team, it is all just about doing, the physical action of working together works better than all that talking nonsense. They have gone in trusting eachother and that is important. Not wasting time on the gaining of trust, having trust in the goddess was enough for each of the boys to know that they could trust the people surrounding them. Axel lets out a small yelp to indicate to turn around and head back. On the way, he starts to think of ways that they will be able to communicate in the thick of action, sign language is completely ineffective in wolf form, yelping and making noise is hardly ideal in any situation, it would wreck any element of surprise and it is hard to get across what you want to say anyway. The boys get back to the training ring, shift and slip back into shorts. Hunter looks over at the girls who are in full fledged training mode already. He smiles as he sees Ava’s face. Her smile cannot be hidden at all. He knew it wouldn’t be like the girls group at the academy but he can understand why she would worry about it. Lucas is just about to speak but Axel beats him to it. “Lets not let the girls get too far ahead. As Jade said we need to test our limits. I am assuming none of you have found you maximum. I know I never had. I know this is a competition and a bit of fun, but for me this is also about bettering ourselves. After all, the main objective of this whole thing is to protect my wife and pups. Only by being your strongest can we hope to do it” Axel doesn’t say the real terror in his heart, no matter how strong they are, are they really going to be able to beat magic? The dark witches abilities are unknown. The skills for werewolves fighting witches is no longer taught in any capacity, there has been no need for those teachings anymore. When hand to hand combat or physical combat does not gain the upper hand, is it possible for them to succeed? Axel just comforts himself with the thought that the moon goddess wouldn’t have bothered with any of this if they didn’t at least have a shot, if they were just going to be sent in as sacrifices, just ready to be annihilated. Axel shakes his head to dispel the negative thoughts. It is not possible to win a battle if you have already lost it in your mind. Lucas is like the clown cheerleader, he leaps into the ring with over the top pizzazz. “Lets do this” There is no way that Lucas will let Alexis get better than him. He will never hear the end of it if that happens, she might actually laugh so hard in his face that her lungs will fall out. His pride is on the line here. Even Phoenix ghosts a smile at Lucas’ antics. If he was just watching and listening to Lucas without training with him, he would really think he is just a laid back waste of an alpha, but he is highly skilled, so his antics are just funny, not annoying as he isn’t bringing down the group, he is bringing a relaxed element to it which may be necessary. Working with the four of them is at lot easier than the three with the girls, but they don’t really have a dedicated trainer as Axel is in the midst of it all. But fighting with three different highly skilled opponents in a round robin style of training it is actually quite easy to reach peaks very easily. Just watching and learning other opponents moves is just as valuable as having a trainer at the side barking orders. Once the girls actually recover to the point that they can walk, which requires about an hour of lying on the mat, waiting for death. The group saunters over to join the boys. The boys are all completely ruined, they have thrashed their bodies to the extreme and are still trying to recover. Lucas moves his head to look at Alexis, who is wearing a sinister smile. Lucas wants to cry but he doesn’t even have the strength. Alexis jumps in the ring and walks straight toward him. She starts squishing his face into all sorts of expressions. “You are so much cuter when you can’t talk” Lucas just glares at her, he is handsome all the time, cute? How dare she call an alpha wolf cute in front of other alphas? Alexis lifts up his marked arm. “Quick Jade, get them while they are down” Jade stands back and watches laughing. She was planning on talking through it with them, but is it easier to do it while they can’t protest? Or is it like a mating mark? They will bleed out if it is done against their will? Jade loves Alexis’ overbearing and forceful plan, but if one of them did actually bleed out, that would be a ridiculous waste. Jade clears her throat awkwardly. “Heres the thing, the moon goddess gave us a way that we can operate like our own little pack, being able to link, but we don’t lose our connections to our existing packs” She pauses and looks around, quickly saying. “We all did it” Like peer pressure is a good excuse. Axel looks over. “What do you have to do?” The way Jade is not so explaining it means that it is weird and the fact that he wasn’t the first to know means that it is probably something that he will not be happy with. Ava jumps in the ring and shows off her nice new mark. “Easy as that” Axel snorts and rolls his eyes, no wonder he didn’t get told, but he is surprisingly not that worried about it, he is too tired to care. Four marked arms raise in the air. Jade nearly jumps for joy, all this working it up in her head and no one even cares. She works around one by one, marking all their arms. When the last one is done, she feels like a burden is off her, the connection as the last of the eight is done seems to amplify, a sense of belonging within the group increases. The days consist of waking at the c***k of dawn, breakfast, run in wolf, fight in wolf, lunch, train in human, fight in human, dinner, sleep. The rate of progression is moving in leaps and bounds, every day each of them getting a little better, a little faster, a little stronger. Even though everyone is exhausted, more exhausted than they ever have been before, more exhausted than they ever thought possible, there is not a single word of complaint, it is easy to see the results, so the pain is all worth it. Sometimes they train separately and sometimes together. The large variety of techniques and skill sets within the group make it easy for advancement. All of them learning off each other.
