Leaning against my bike, I glared at the hole in the side of the bar. The day before had been a long ass day, and today wasn't looking like it wouldn't be any better of a day. The bar didn't belong to the club per se. It belonged to a member's family and had become a hangout for all our members over the years. And the hole in the wall it now sported was fall out for something that had to do with the club. We were responsible for this and would ensure it was fixed. I had already called in several favors using my brother's contracting company to get work started on fixing it. That wasn't going to be today's problem to be dealt with, though. No, we needed to deal with the fact no one knew that Vex, a member we voted to kill not too long ago, had an old lady. No one had met her. No one knew she even existed. Hell, none of us knew he had a younger brother who was also killed the night we executed Vex.
For those who don't remember or know, Vex's younger brother, Connor, was with Gunner's daughter while she was in California, working on her degree to become a doctor like her mom. At least, she was until Connor got too handsy with Lizzy, and Gunner went to California to deal with it. When he left, he thought that was the end of s**t. He was sure he had left Connor lifeless on the apartment floor. Only for us to find out that that wasn't the case not too long ago. With Vex's help, Connor survived and tried to take Lizzy back. Vex used his knowledge of club business to give Connor a time and place to take his revenge on Gunner by running him and another member, Axel, off the road, putting both members in the hospital. While Connor did that, Vex kidnapped Lizzy, taking her to a secluded location and handing her over to Connor. In the end, the club figured out what happened, and we got Lizzy back home safely before too much damage was done. A vote that very night ended Vex's life after Connor's was taken in the process of us retrieving Lizzy.
And now we find out after yet another member's family pays the price that Vex also had an old lady. So, today, a small group and I will make a trip to Vex's home to ensure no one else will come out of the woodwork to surprise us. We will learn everything we can by going through his home that we should have known when he became a club member. A mistake we will definitely be learning from in the future. We didn't look too far into information with Vex because he was being vouched for by another member at the time. Unfortunately, the member who vouched for him wasn't with us any longer. Shots' who said the two of them had grown up together a few towns over, died on the road after a car hit his bike a year ago. Leaving us unable to ask him questions about what the hell he actually knew about the guy he backed.
The sound of a bike coming my way had me pushing off my bike. My annoyed thoughts of everything else left me as confused thoughts filled me upon, only seeing one member pull into the parking lot. Knuckles pulled his bike up next to mine, shutting off his engine. He told me he would stop by and get Tats this morning and have him work with us today instead of working with any of the other guys on what they had going.
"Where's Tats?"
I looked around, thinking I was missing something. But no, there was no other bike that had pulled up at the same time and no car that he could have possibly borrowed and drove over in.
"Summer needs his help with some things today. Snake said he would meet us over there."
I raised an eyebrow, hoping for a little more information. But after a minute of Knuckles not saying anything else, I knew that was all I would get. I could push for more information, but I know Knuckles well enough to know that he would have already told me if he wanted me to know. So, for now, I will just have to accept the information I have gotten and move on. Nodding, I climbed on my bike, bringing it to life. Knuckles followed suit, bringing his back to life, and followed me out as we made our way to the address we could find for Vex.
As we made our way out of town, Snake caught up with us, falling in line with Knuckles and me. The three of us rode out of town, heading in the opposite direction from where most of our members live, who live out of town. Making our way to a town over, driving through their downtown area, and out the other side of it. After another three miles, we pulled off onto a dirt road leading to a house resembling the cabin we found Lizzy at. Next to the house was what looked to be an old barn, but upon further investigation, we found it had been turned into a garage and housed six other cars that belonged to Vex.
Making our way into the house, you would think it belonged to an average guy and his wife. The place was spotless and looked to be well-kept. There was no sign the two had children or pets, for that matter. After some digging, we found a marriage certificate with Vex's real name, Victor, along with Sierra. Everything seemed normal, nothing out of the ordinary, as we moved through the main floor of the house. Nothing, however, could have prepared either of us for what we found in the basement. Chains attached to one wall. Scratch marks in the concrete on the floor and wall, along with what I can only guess was dried blood. Not far from there was a small box with pictures featuring Sierra chained to the wall, beaten and bloody. It was honestly enough for all three of us guys to wish Vex was still alive simply so we could kill the guy again.
Neither one of us had to say anything to agree we would make sure no charges for damages to the bar would be brought against Sierra. Instead, we would make sure she got the care she needed. She would have a long road ahead of her, and she didn't even know it yet. Vex was gone and would never be coming back. She would have to learn to live without him and overcome everything he put her through. Which was a lot from what we could see, and that was only what he documented. Who knows what all else he put her through?
Heading back to town, Knuckles and Snake headed off in their own direction as I made my way over to the hospital. If I was lucky, they would let me in to check on Sierra. I know they weren't letting anyone in to see her the night before. Digs, the club's president, tried to stop in, talk to her, and get some information from her. Some of which I had now after going through the house. Still, I wanted to talk to her and see what all she knew. What all did Vex tell her about club business? Also, I was hoping she had family she could reach out to, and they could make sure she got help.
