Chapter 1: Chocolate

2210 Words
Loving someone and being loved by someone. Everyone is hoping for that one day. They’ll find someone that will truly love them no matter who they are. No matter what they become. No matter where they want. That’s why everyone is fascinated about romance. Romance has more exposure in the show business industry, where most of the movies and dramas are told with a mixture of romance. My name is Kana Hoshino. I’m not bragging, but I’m a very popular actress with hundreds of projects already done under my name. I was called The million years talent. That nickname given to me is cringey, but I don’t dislike it. I have played lots of roles already and met lots of people in the show business industry. Every day is fun and I was right when I decided to become an actress ever since I was a child. My mother was also part of showbiz when she was still young. I thought that I had footsteps. Moving on. My job has its highs and downs. Since I was busy all the time. I didn’t have much time for romance in my early career. I was interested in romance and had relationships before. I did have a secret relationship with a co-star before we decided to reveal our relationship to the public after I reached the age of 26. I’ve been an actress for almost 15 years. Time flies when you are having fun. The public can now accept that their cute idol is now about to step into a new chapter in her life. That’s what I thought… Years later. After giving my everything, my heart, body, and soul. That man left me and went for another woman. I’m quite sure that I’m not ugly and I’m being nice to him. Was it because I’m being an overly protective girlfriend? Was it because I’m not good at bed? Sigh~ “I don’t know what’s wrong with me…” I mutttered while staring at the big billboard attached to the towering building. Right now, I am sitting in the park alone to unwind. Just a few walks from the park was the movie crew that was setting up the setting for the next scene. I’m in the middle of a taping. And worst of all, one of my co-workers is my ex-boyfriend. After our break up, the public is still shipping us and its frustrating. Because we get lots of attention, the producers and director still ship us and place us in the same drama. Sigh~ “I feel like I’m living in a real hell here… He always comes with his new girlfriend. Talking to me like nothing happened between us.” My chest tightens and memories when we’re still happy continue to roll on my head like a flashback. I’m a professional actress. I wont let my feelings get in the way of my acting. But the more I press, I feel down. The more it actually hurts. “I wonder if we can still be together…” I cast my head down. What the hell am I thinking? Of course, we can’t be together anymore. He has another woman. But why is it that I can’t imagine myself with another man beside him? Moving on, sure is hard, especially if you truly love that person. “Hey.” “What?” I lift my head to respond to the voice of someone I don’t know. I look at his face and I’m sure he's not a co-worker or crew member. He had black pupils, jet black hair, and his height was that of an average man. His face is not that bad looking either. Probably, his a fan. Well, my charisma is still overflowing. I am a super popular actress after all. “Want some chocolate?” “Chocolate? Sure…” He took a chocolate bar from his pocket and then placed it in my hand. “You can just throw it if you don’t want to.” He said and left. What was that? His not a fan? Is this chocolate safe to eat? I turned my head back to the guy who gave me the chocolate. I don’t sense anything strange in him. Most of the fans I come to meet will sweat in excitement. But his having such a serious expression. I stared back at the chocolate in my hand. “I heard that sadness can be washed away by sweet things.” I peeled off the wrapper and took a bite of the chocolate. “So sweet…” I muttered and smiled as my melancholic feeling little by little washed away. … “Where did you go?! The director has been looking for you everywhere.” My manager came running at me chasing her breath. “Really? But he said that we'd have a 30 minute break, so I decided to stroll around the park.” “You’re being careless. What if a stalker appeared and kidnapped you? Don’t forget that you're still the idol everyone admires.” “I’m already 29 years old. I'm turning thirty in a few more months. I’m not that super duper cute anymore to be targeted by kidnappers.” I’m not cute, I’m very pretty. Lea, my manager, has been by my side ever since. She’s like my mother and big sister in some sense. “Double time! Double time!” Shouted by the director. He then looked at me and ran into me. “Where did you go, Hoshino?! The set is already done. Go to your make-up artist and get prepared. We need to finish this scene straight. We can’t do this scene at sunset. Please move! Move! Move!” This director is always angry. He's like one of those bosses that will always want to his works working all around the clock. Dealing with these kinds of people is part of the job. In show business. There are lots of people with big egos. Most of them are scumbags that are hard to deal with. I have been here for almost 20 years already. I can manage. “Miss Hoshino, let’s do our best together.” “Y… Yeah, let’s do our best.” I replied. This girl is the woman my ex-boyfriend replaced me. She’s cute, curvy, and has a very pretty face. She’s young and now she’s one of the hottest newcomers in the industry. I can see why my ex-boyfriend chose her over me. After greeting me, she walks to her boyfriend. They look happy as they talk. “That cat thief is such a b***h. She talks to you and goes to your ex-boyfriend. That makes me want to pull her hair.” Manager said. “I don’t care anymore… I don’t care what is happening between them behind the scenes.” “really?” “I really mean it. Let’s stop talking about the past and move on.” I said and got my make-up ready. The taping has started. There are a few re-shoots and some dialogue changes. I made some adlibs based on my understanding of my character. After a few hours before sun set, the taping was over and everyone looked satisfied with the execution of the director, who continued sighing as he re-continued the scene. I don’t know what’s going on in his mind, but as long as I did my job right. There is nothing more to do here. I wanted to leave, clean my stress by meeting my dogs, and fall asleep. I checked my bag and saw the left over from the chocolate I received from that mysterious guy. “Good thing it didn’t melt. The sun is scourging earlier.” I said and finished the whole chocolate bar. “Kana, maybe we’ll be staying here for a moment.” “Why is that?” “The van is broken… It won’t be fixed today. Don’t worry, I contacted your father and he said that he’ll come to pick us up… There is another option…” The manager turned her gaze to my ex-boyfriend. “There is no way I’m riding his car. Stop teasing me already.” “I mean, it's such a shame. I’m still rooting for you two. Ryo is such a hard-working and nice man.” “He's an actor… No man is flawless. The past is the past and I don’t want to dwell on it anymore. Its cruel that I still have to work with him though. Anyway, I’ll go to a convenient store and get some drink and a snack.” “You’ll get in trouble…” “No need to come with me. I can take care of myself.” With proper acting, I can communicate in the crowd. Also, in this day and age where celebrity is not a word just for actors and actresses. Meeting a celebrity is not big of a deal. I walked down the path looking at the orange hue of the sky. The scenery looks romantic. Remind me of the day Ryo told me that he loved me. I’m so happy when I hear those words. I’m so happy my heart is jumping with joy. My mind is consumed with thoughts of the past. I continue walking and and walking. The orange sky was then replaced with a pitch black night sky. There are no stars that can be seen with their naked eyes anymore. Because of light pollution caused by cities. I don’t really know where a convenient store is located, but I’m sure if I walk long enough I’ll get to see one. But it seems like I have walked so much already and I haven't seen one yet. “Ryo and Nanami… They do look cute together. I should move on… I’m still pretty. I’m sure I’ll meet someone that will love me and I will love them.” I said, looking high up to the moon and, as I turned my vision down. I saw him again. Not, Ryo… Under the light post standing while looking high up to the moon was the man who had given me a chocolate bar earlier. He looks at the moon like its very special and eventually notices me. Our gaze met and stayed for three seconds. He turned around like nothing had happened and walked in the opposite direction from me. “Wait!” “...” “Wait! Wait! Wait! Hey, you're the guy that gave me chocolate earlier, right?” He nodded and his face bit confused. “Are you from this place? I was wondering where the convenience store was. But after a long walk I was unable to see one. This is too much to ask for, but can you lend me the way?” Gosh, I just talked to a total stranger. This is kinda awkward. His staring at me like “What the heck is wrong with this girl?” eyes. “I’m not from this place. But I saw a convenience store earlier. I’ll walk with you there.” He said. “Thank you very much.” “...” I followed him as soon as he started walking. He is silent and seems very uninterested in me. I’m very sure that I’m still pretty. Normally, a guy will have goosebumbs talking with me. Maybe he's gay or something… No, his voice is deep and his face manly. I turned my gaze at his body shape. His lean. Not my type at all, but I think it fits his height. It’s gross when someone that’s not very tall has a muscular body. We arrived at the convenience store. I get some riceballs and some drinks. I get plenty of different flavors. “You bought plenty,” he said. “Because it's not just for myself.” Ring! Ring! Ring! I took my phone and answered. “hello…” “Where are you?” “I’m in a convenient store now. Is the ride there already?” “Nope, I’m just checking on you.” “No need to worry. I’m not a kid anymore. Is there anything you want me to buy?” “Nothing. Just make sure to return safe.” “Okay.” The phone call ended. I turned to the guy who helped me and said: “Hey, let's eat together.” “Why?” “Just think about it as a token of favor. You helped me out, right? Wait, are you perhaps busy? Am I interfering in something?” “Not at all. I have nothing good to do, so I will help you out.” He answered. “Then, you’ll eat with me.” “Refusing to food is bad. Free food taste good.” Without realizing it, we agreed on a date. … This is our first meeting. Our first meeting is nothing special or romantic like in the movies and drama I’m making. To think that this man who simply gave me a chocolate will be the man staying at my side until I die is surprising. That’s right, the man I just met was the man that will love me and I will love for the rest of my life. My future husband.
