The Steward repeated the message almost breathlessly as if he was afraid to forget one word of it.
Dorinda, who had put down her book to listen to him, smiled.
“Will you thank Lady Anson for her kind invitation and tell her that unfortunately Lady Lettice Burne is not well enough herself at the moment to leave her cabin or receive visitors?”
“Very good, miss.”
The Steward went from the cabin and Dorinda picked up her book again.
