September 3, 2023 Dear Readers, Thank you so much for all your support here on Dreame. When I started writing three years ago, I never expected people to read my stories or even like them. I began writing the New Girl Next Door strictly because I was bored during COVID-19 and wanted to write a story that I would be interested in reading. When I started getting a group of readers who were patiently waiting for updates I was shocked. When I applied for the YA Fiction contest I never thought I had a chance to win. When my editor emailed me saying I won I was completely blown away. A story that started as a creative outlet for me during COVID and a way for me to cope with my depression and anxiety has grown to three completed stories and over 500K reads across the three of them. I have learned a lot during my time here on Dreame, and feel like I have grown a lot as a writer. However, I wanted to take some time to discuss my current stories on Dreame and any future stories I will be writing. Please read the questions below. Stories: New Girl Series The New Girl Next Door The Bad Boy’s Redemption Werewolf Story The Beta and His Human Mate Questions: 1.. Current Works in Progress? My current Work In Progress is ‘There is No Escape’. I started the story a while ago on Dreame but decided to remove it. I am currently rewriting the story and will publish it once it is completed. 2. Will any new stories come to Dreame? No, I will not be posting any new stories to Dreame. First off, I do not like the style of posting chapters as I write them because I feel like I cannot make changes and I locked myself into that plot. Yes, I don’t have to do that, but the way Dreame is designed it feels like I have to. Second, I am not good a keeping a writing schedule and run into writers block and need many breaks, which is not fair to people who are waiting for updates. Third, Dreame does not pay authors enough and the stories are too expensive. I have done the math if you were to buy my longest story without bonus coins or coupons, The Beta and His Human Mate, it would cost you about $23. I make less than $2 off that. However, the reality is you will use bonus coins and coupons to buy it which means I make even less. Authors do not make money off of bonus coins. In addition, no one should have to pay that much for an e-book. I have had many readers tell me that they will not be continuing my stories because they are too expensive. I hate that my stories are not accessible to everyone because of that. 3. Where will I be publishing new stories? All future stories once completed will be published to A.ma.zon and K.in.dle Un.lim.ited. 4. Will any of my stories become paperbacks? Probably not. To get paperbacks of your story you either need to have a newer contract that allows for it or reach a writer level of 10. I am at level 8 and I am 400,000 points away from getting to level 9, so odds of me getting to level 10 is pretty slim. In addition, all of my stories are on the old contract. I asked my editor if she could find away for me to be able to publish, but I am not getting my hopes up. 5. Will I create a P.atreon or Re.am? Probably not. Many authors who have left Dreame have created these accounts. I don’t think I will because I don’t keep consistent writing schedules and dont think it will be fair for my readers. 6. Do I have any s.ocial me.dias you could f.ollow? Yes, I recommend you f.ollow my i.nst.ag.ram and t.ik.to.k @kayshort_author I will post about my future stories and updates there. You should also join my fa.ce.bo.ok group Kay Short’s Shorties. Not only will I post updates about future stories, but any bonus chapters for my completed stories will be posted there. I know I owe you all bonus chapters for The New Girl Next Door. I have ideas for those as well as bonus chapters for The Bad Boy’s Redemption. Once they are completed, I will post them. In addition, I will be using my soc.ials to reach out for possible Beta Readers and to send out ARCs. 7. Am I continuing The New Girl Series? I don’t think I will be continuing the New Girl Series. Many asked if I will be writing a story about Phil and Erin, the answer is no. If I were to write anything about them it would be bonus chapters. Writing a series is hard and when I first wrote the New Girl, I never planned for it to be a series. I have many ideas for other stories and want to focus on those. If you have read this far, thank you so much. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out to me on my S.ocial med.ias. I want to say thank you again to all my readers. I love and appreciate each and every single one of you. Love, Kay Short
