Friday came around fast. Lucian focused on work and ignored the weird behavior of his assistant. He took Noah's advice and just pretend it was normal. It worked too. He didn't feel awkward most of the time and Scarlett kept her teasing at a minimum. That could also be because they were working several projects at the moment. All of them pressing and time-consuming. They were both just occupied with work. He did notice that they got along great. They worked well together. He didn't want to say it but at this point, it would be ridiculous to ignore it.
Scarlett was even better at her job than Lara.
If his previous assistant ever found out he liked her replacement better professionally she'd have a fit. Lara took pride in her job. She loved working for their company and she made it known how good she was at her job. He never corrected her because it had been true. That was not the case anymore. Scarlett proved to them both that there was someone even better out there.
It was nearing five in the afternoon and he was ready to call it a day. His overnight bag was already tucked away in the car he rarely used. He'd go home with Scarlett so they could pack her bag together. She wanted his advice when it came to her clothes. He understood why though. His assistant dressed provocatively and he didn't mind it that much. It took some getting used to but he was sort of used to seeing the woman's curves and her boobs all the time. It was part of who she was. It was never too much she knew when to play it down. But to win his mother over or at least make the woman back off and accept that he was fake dating Scarlett she had to dress a certain way.
So he'd go home with her.
Acting like it was totally fine like they had been friends forever. Then things would work out just fine between them. He was shutting off his laptop when Noah burst through the door. He behaved so much like his little girls, always letting his presence known. He didn't know how Kim was putting up with this man. He was annoying as f**k.
Still a good older brother though.
Noah closed the door behind him and grinned at him like he was up to no good, "Ready for your weekend away?" He asked he took a seat across him looking like he owned the place.
"I think things will work out fine." Lucian admitted to his brother, "Scarlett and I work well together and I think she might actually pull it off."
"It takes two to tango." Noah reminded him, "You will pull it off as well." His brother smirked at him, looking as smug as ever, "Aren't you glad I made this happen?"
"Modesty is not your thing, is it?" Lucian asked.
He closed his laptop and shoved it into the perfect fitting bag. He would be taking that with him because the weekend away still sounded like hell to him and focusing on the running projects would help to keep his mind off things. Mom wouldn't like it but she just had to deal.
"It just feels good being right all the time."
"You are not right all the time." Lucian pointed out, "This stupid marketing event is being dragged on forever and no real decisions can be made since sales and marketing disagree about f*****g everything and I don't see finance clearly stating that some things are not within budget. So the stupid event has been revised so many times at this point we'll be throwing a Christmas party in July."
Noah didn't look happy about that. Prideful people rarely did like it when people pointed out their mistakes. Lucian didn't care though, sometimes things needed to be said to keep the business going. He wasn't looking forward to a Christmas party in summer.
"How about you focus on your fake relationship with Scarlett over the weekend and I take over this project?" Noah suggested, "I will be stricter, I promise."
"You sure?"
Lucian knew it was bad of him wanting to push this project onto someone else. But he was getting tired of it and he knew Scarlett felt the same way. She didn't voice out her dislike anymore, she learned her lesson but he could just tell looking at her face. It probably matched the look on his face whenever another email popped up about this stupid party.
"When you get back this Monday this place will be a little Christmas wonderland."
"You can't pull that off in only three days."
Noah narrowed his eyes on him, "Is that a challenge I hear?"
He wasn't challenging his brother at all, he was being realistic. There was just no way their hotel would look like Santa threw up on it within three mere days.
"You can't pull it off." Lucian brushed him off.
Noah got to his feet, "Oh, I think that is a challenge, baby brother."
Lucian rolled his eyes at his brother, "My God, the things Kim needs to put up with."
"Leave little Kimmi out of this." Noah sounded more amused than upset, "So if I pull this off you owe me, little brother."
"Fine, if you think you can amaze me then go for it."
Lucian collected his things and left his office together with Noah. Scarlett also managed to get away from her laptop and met up with them at the elevator. She and Noah shared a look and then both grinned at each other. His personal hell was already starting.
"You ready to meet the amazing Emma Starr?" Noah asked.
Scarlett shrugged, "Not sure if I am but I have the lovely Lucian right beside me."
She loved saying his name, it rolled off her tongue like something sinister.
"Don't let her overwhelm you, she is a big softie underneath all the glitter and glamour."
Scarlett looked at him, raising an eyebrow in question, "You never told me your mother is one of those women. That changes everything."
He frowned, "It does?"
She shared a look with Noah, the both of them burst out in laughter. It was just great how good they got along as well. If this continued Scarlett would become part of his family even though he didn't want that. They'd just pull her in and not care about his opinion whatsoever.
His family was awful.
***
Scarlett's apartment was small, just one bedroom but big enough for her. It was decorated in beige, grey, and white. It could have looked very modern but it was decorated with lots of pillows, lots of colorful art and little plants that it looked quite homey. It didn't feel like a place the Goddess of teasing would live in. It was like a secret side to Scarlett only he could witness.
"Love your place." He admitted to her as he closed the front door behind him.
Like Scarlett, he kicked his shoes off and then followed her into the living room. She tossed her beige coat on the couch and turned to look at him, she looked happy being in her own surroundings. Cheerful and with a childlike expression in her eyes.
"Can I get you anything? Tea or maybe coffee?"
"Coffee."
"I'll be right back." She patted her couch, "Have a seat, when I get back we can move this to the bedroom."
There she was again, the Goddess of teasing. Always peeking through. He did make himself comfortable on her couch and grabbed his phone. He received tons of messages from his family. His mother sounded so excited about this weekend away. She was being coy about it. Pretending to be sad that Noah and Michael couldn't make it while it had been by her design. Such an actress she was. He couldn't let her know he was onto her. He pretended to be sad about it too. A missed opportunity to spend some time with his beloved brother and cousin. Michael was teasing him about Scarlett, giving him advice about what to do with a woman like that. Like he needed it. Scarlett was okay with him the way he was. At least it felt like she liked him quite a bit. He didn't need to pretend around her and he really liked that. It made communicating with her so easy.
"Here is your coffee." Scarlett announced as she met up with him again, "The way you liked it. Made with love, of course."
He smirked at her, "I always can feel the love with every sip I take from the simple black coffee you make. It's out of this world your coffee."
She giggled, grinning at him with that childlike wonder, "Are you finally giving in?" She asked, "I quite like it when you're not being the stern and emotionless CEO. It shows how young you're actually are."
"I can't be like this at the office, people would tear me apart."
Her smile faded, "That's true." She whispered a smile spread across her face again, "Well, I'm glad you dare to let go around me. It feels like we're very close."
"We are close." Lucian agreed.
She looked happy about that, "Okay, let's not stall and move this to my bedroom." She took the lead, held the door open to her bedroom which was actually an average size. Almost the same size as her living room which made it quite a big bedroom, "After you."
He walked inside and watched her open her wall to wall closet which was filled to the brim. This woman had a problem. She smiled at him.
"Before you judge me." She pointed at him, "I bought most of these at a thrift store. It's kind of a hobby of mine to collect pieces which reflect my personality but also are unique in a way."
"I like that." He admitted.
She placed her navy mug down on her bedside table and pulled out a long, glittery black dress. She showed it off to him, "This is the only piece I own which was quite expensive but so worth the money, I think. I mean a girl needs to look fabulous at fancy Christmas parties."
He eyed it, "You wearing it at the Starr Christmas party?"
"Absolutely." She put it away again, "So now you know what I am wearing so you better wear something matching."
Anyone else would think that was quite possessive of her but he understood why she was saying it. They'd be spending a lot of time together. It would look more appealing to the eyes if they matched. The fact that her dress was black made it easy to match. Any tuxedo would do.
"I'll keep that in mind."
"Good." She pulled out an overnight bag and zipped it open, "So let's do this."
It took them ten minutes to pack her bag and then it took them twenty minutes to finish their coffee. They sat on the end of her bed, staring at her star covered ceiling which glowed in the dark. She pulled the curtains closed and turned off the lights. It was magical really and maybe a bit too intimate but he honestly didn't care anymore. The mood was so good between them. It was hard to end their little peaceful moment but they needed to be on the road. He wanted to make it for dinner and his mother already planned a late dinner because of him. He didn't want to upset them already because he would upset quite a few people by showing up with Scarlett at his side.
They settled in his car, Scarlett fiddled with his radio and looked so surprised when she managed to find a station which was already playing Christmas songs. She stared at him with wide eyes and then grinned at him, a soft giggle following.
"Yes!" She cheered, "Get ready to be amazed by my wonderful singing voice, Lucy."
She started singing along with every damn song on the station, but he couldn't hate it. She had an average singing voice but she made it up with her laughter and her smile and those glittering eyes. He was so f****d because she sucked him in and made him enjoy being silly with her. He had an absolutely amazing time with her. Maybe the weekend away together wouldn't be so bad after all.
