CHAPTER 3

980 Words
“Gran…gran?” Mago can’t believe what he saw. His old and trudging grandfather stood there, pointing his sword against the thousands of monsters along with his comrades behind him. But the moment he drew those words from his mouth, one of the goblins notice him and swiftly lunge at his hiding spot. The goblin pulled Mago out of the bush. The young kid can’t do anything but to sob and wail while the disgusting creature dragged him out. His sobbing and screaming didn’t go unnoticed by the keen eyes of the old man. And as soon Olei saw what is happening his eyes widen. “Mago!” he called his grandson with brewing anger in him. His eyes show no fear but disgust and grudge towards the vile creature that caught Mago. “Gran-gran!” the child’s every kick and punches were futile against the goblins. Though they are small they are practically strong as a grown man. And what a kid can do about it? Olei charges onwards with a loud battle cry. He slashes every goblin that approaches his way to his grandson. Followed by his comrades they use every ounce of magic they have to defeat the enemies. Magic circles, different spells; various attacks are thrown against each other’s side. But none of them made Olei falter even one bit. His eyes are focus only on Mago. As Olei get to his grandson, the kid can’t help but to feel delight that his Gran-gran is alive. Olei jumps high and as he falls down, he instantly severe the goblin who has hands on his grandson. He put Mago over his left shoulder and run towards where they can be safe. They went in the rear part of the formation. “Mago! Stay here!” Olei strictly said to his grandson to stay put and quickly run to the front. Mago only clenched his tiny fist against the muddy ground. The rain falls harder and wind blow grew stronger than before. The droplets of rain became sharper as the wind carry them off. As he observes further to the milieu, his eyes caught the images of the houses burning amidst the heavy rain and the fiery fire dance with the wind. The ones who are fighting the monsters are his fellow villagers. The look in their eyes are clear, they won’t let these things pass. The sight in front of him is something that child should never see. Monsters all around, stench of blood from them and the villagers, screams of anguish and pain, curling sounds of explosions, and deaths. The fire in the eyes of the fighters around him slowly dies as the goblins advanced. They are tired, exhausted. Their breaths are heavy and bloods are oozing from their wounds. ‘Where are they?’ Mago thought to himself. ‘Where are the guardian deities?’ The sights are too much for his feeble mind. He didn’t notice that the beasts are already surrounding him. The moment they simultaneously jumped towards him he ducks and covers his head with his little arms, screaming for his dear life. In the blink of an eye, Olei came with a speed of lightning and killed the monsters. The blood of beasts splattered towards Mago’s face. Olei stood in front of Mago with his proud back facing him. His sword is filled with dents from using it too much. He knows he will soon reach his limits but he can’t give up. Not yet. “Corporal Olei! How long till the guardian deities arrive?” a man that Mago knew as Leon approach Olei and ask. He didn’t face Olei as they talk because both of them are busy fighting off the goblins with their magics. “I don’t know, but I assure you they will arrive.” Olei said in between blasts he makes to kill the hideous beasts. “H-How can you be so sure?” Leon asked in utter confusion. “I’m their Corporal, is that enough answer?” Olei only smirks. Mago is astounded and feel proud of his Gran-gran. He never knew that magics are real, that monsters are real, and that powers and supernatural abilities are real until this very moment. Looking at the back of his grandfather it can’t help but make him feel safe. Hours have passed since goblins arrived and fought the villagers but it seems like the goblins are not going to end soon. Though the villagers have killed many goblins but still they are outnumbered and some of them are heavily wounded. They need medical assistance and back up. “Men! Regroup at the rear!” Olei commanded his soldiers gathering at where Mago is. “It’s about time.” Olei said. As if on cue, the three portals opened in front of them and revealed three persons. Two men and a woman. “Thought you’d never come.” Olei said as his smirk widen. His fellow villagers drop their jaws in awe. They can’t believe what they are seeing the three persons standing there are the most powerful guardian deities. They wear the cloak that symbolizes their status being the strongest knights. “Come on old man! Whenever and wherever it is, as long as it’s you who called us, you can guarantee that we’ll come.” The muscular and tall man that named Delta said in cocky tone. With his giant mallet slumped across his shoulder. “Delta! Show some respect.” A man with lion-like atmosphere known as Captain Meyer shushed Delta. He crosses his arms in front of her and nods her head showing respect to the elder “It’s been a while, Corporal.” “Let’s cut this short talk. We need to clean this up,” Said by the woman in pigtails. Her voice sounded as if she’s a child, goes by the name- Diane.
