"One and the same," Lucan said, then chuckled. "But look on the bright side, Adeline. I could raise his ranks." Adeline's brows furrowed. "What do you mean?" Lucan sighed. "I am feeling generous as it shall soon be my birthday. In a fortnight. I intend to do another introduction of you then." Adeline bit down on her lips. "Lucan..." "If you can win today, I shall make him leave the servant slums. He will finally have food and water, and, importantly, a bit of freedom." "Why are you doing this?" "Because I can. Because I want to. And because I am tired of the rebellion." Adeline nodded slowly. It was not bad. She could help Evander's situation. She tightened her grip on her bow and then walked forward, her eyes meeting Lucan's. "Promise on your blood." Lucan smiled, then removed the small dagger he always carried around. He slit his finger, then met Adeline's eyes again. "On my blood."
