I looked at the wall clock and the long hand was at 6 while the short hand was at 4.
I was so tired, so I decided to use the extra two hours I had, to sleep.
I removed the jean trousers and the white t-shirt I was wearing and replaced them with a baggy shirt that is almost reaching my knees, because I needed comfort.
I walked down to my neatly laid bed and lied down on it, until I slept off.
I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. I didn’t even know what I was doing when I picked the call.
“Hello.” I forced myself to speak.
“I am outside your house.” A voice said. “Hazel, are you sleeping?”
My eyes cleared in an instant when I realized that it was Owen and I jerked up.
“Are you that tired? Should we just reschedule?” He suggested.
He probably didn’t know how badly I wanted to see him.
“I’m okay, it’s just that I forgot to set an alarm before sleeping. I’ll be out in ten minutes.” I said, quickly.
“Okay.” He said and ended the call.
I didn’t know what to wear, so I went through my closet and I brought out a pair of sweatpants and a cotton top.
This is the perfect outfit for camping, I thought, before wearing them.
When I got outside, I saw his car parked in front of my apartment and he was sitting inside.
“I am so sorry for delaying you.” I apologized, when I got to where his car was parked.
“It’s okay, I understand.” He said.
I joined him inside the car and he turned his key inside the ignition and the engine rolled to life.
When we got to the camping location, a tent was already set up and also, a bonfire that lit up the dark evening hours.
“Sit Down let me be your chef for tonight, I’m at your service miss.” He said jokingly and we both laughed.
He put a grill grate over the bonfire and grilled some chicken. He looked so hot and attractive while he was at it, he was capable of making any girl’s panties wet.
“Would you like rice or pasta?” He asked, as he tugged out two food warmers from a bag.
“Rice please.” I said.
He served me rice with some of the chickens he grilled. He served pasta and chicken for himself.
“I’ve not really had the chance to talk to you about this since the last time that you were at my house. But, you told my mom that you are a software engineer, how comes my mom got to know that before me.” I asked, while we were eating.
His mouth was full with food so he slowly chew the food before replying. “Sorry I forgot to add that information while I told you about myself.”
“Why did you switch profession?” I asked, as I shoved the last bit of food on my plate into my mouth.
“After graduating, i practiced medicine for 5years before I realized that it wasn’t my passion. That was when I started learning how to code on YouTube. And in the space of six months, I became a certified programmer.” He said proudly.
“Oh I see.” I said, as I stared at the moon.
“Do you like the moon?” He asked.
I nodded my head without saying a word.
“Let me tell you an interesting story.” He said.
I turned to look at him and gave him all my attention. “Go on.”
"There’s a Japanese writer named Natsume Soseki. During his teaching years, he overheard one of his students saying "I love you," and he deemed it inappropriate for the Japanese people and culture.
So, he told him that it would be better to say it as "the moon is beautiful, isn’t it?"
This is a Japanese phrase that can be said to anyone you care about and want to be with.”
He paused, then looked at me. When his eyes met mine, he said, "And now I am telling you, Hazel. The moon is beautiful, isn’t it?”
