While we were still working on the case, my phone started ringing. It was a call from Owen. “What’s up babe.” I said, after picking up. “I’m good, how is work?” He asked. “Work is fine.” I lied. Work was really frustrating. “I am cooking, what would you like to have for dinner?” He asked. “Wait! are you still at my house?” I asked. “Yes babe.” He said. I thought he was joking when he said I might meet him when I get back home. “Alright love. I would eat anything your blessed hands make.” I joked and we both laughed. “See you later.” He said and hung up. Listening to his voice was so soothing, as I really needed it at the moment because the case was driving me crazy. We continued working on Anna’s case. After a while, Tunde suddenly banged the table in total frustration. “This is absurd!” He yelled. I could understand his pain because I was feeling the same way. “Maybe you should just go and rest at home. We’ll continue tomorrow after cooling our heads.” I suggested. “You are right, let’s go.” He said and we packed our things. “Let me drop you off.” Tunde offered, when we got outside. “No thank you. Your house is in the other direction, don’t worry about me.” I said. “I really don’t mind.” He said. I looked at him, then said “I mind.” “See you tomorrow. Bye.” I said, then stopped a cab and entered. When I got home, I inserted my key into the lock, but the door didn’t open. I got worried and kept trying. After few seconds, someone opened the door from inside and it was Owen. “Welcome back, queen.” He said. “Did you change the lock? I tried my ke…” I started, but he cut me in. “yes, I can’t let that guy gain access to your house again.” “Thank you.” I said and entered the house. The air was filled with sweet aroma that I almost salivated just by perceiving the aroma. I rushed to the kitchen because I couldn’t wait to eat what Owen had cooked and I was starving. Just as I was about to open the pot, Owen grabbed my wrist, stopping me. “Relax ma’am. Go and sit down and I’ll bring the food to you.” He said and ushered me out of the kitchen. I sat down on the couch in the living room and patiently waited for him to bring the food. After a few minutes, he came in with a tray filled with plates of food and placed it on the stool beside the couch. I was so excited when he brought the food in, so I quickly opened it. The sight of what was inside the plate me so happy. It was a food indigenous to Nigerians, semolina and soup. “Thank you.” I said excitedly and I started digging. I smiled after each bite and I was sure that, Owen could see how I excited I was. “you must love the food so much.” Owen said while staring at me. “The food is so nice. Told you, your hands are so blessed.” I complimented and continued eating. “You really know how to eat like a lady.” Owen said sarcastically when I finished eating. “OMG! Did I just embarrass myself?” I said and covered my face in shame. “Common, it’s so cute. I like it that you are being yourself, that’s a turn on for me.” he confessed and tried to remove my hands from my face, when we suddenly heard a knock on the door. “Are you expecting anyone?” Owen asked. “No, it might be my mom though. She’s good at paying me surprise visits.” I said and my face went blank. “what’s wrong?” Owen asked, concerned. “Nothing really. Just that I told her I was going to call her back and I haven’t.” I said. The sound of the knock continued. “I’ll get the door.” Owen offered. He stood up, walked down to the door and opened it. I picked up a glass of water to drink and I heard Owen yell “what the f**k are you doing here?” I quickly dropped the glass of water and rushed to the door to see what was happening. My jaw dropped when I saw John standing outside the door. “Hazel, I am really sorry about last night, I was so drunk that I didn’t know what I was doing. Please forgive me for last night and for what I have done to you in the past. I still love you and I am wondering if there is still a chance we could get back together.” His audacity made me laugh out really hard. “is what I said funny?” He asked, with a confused expression. “It is not just funny; you look like a clown right now.” I jeered and continued laughing. “Do I have a chance?” He asked again and that was when I lost my cool. “John, you came into my house last night and tried to harm me, and you still have the audacity to come back here and spew trash. You still love me? give me a break please, you love me and you tried to harm me? how does that make sense to you?” “I am truly sorry about last night. I was drunk and even at that, I was not going to hurt you. I would never!” he defended. His statement disgusted me and I wanted him out of my sight as soon as possible, so I made things clear to him. “As you can see, the man here is my boyfriend. And all the things you are saying in his presence is disrespectful. I have moved on. So, me and you can never work.” “Please just give me another chance.” He begged, not minding what I just told him. “Your audacity stinks! If you keep doing this, I am going to sue you for trespassing, physical abuse and a whole lot of things. You know I am a detective and I am capable of making you serve some years in jail. Now, leave my sight and never return!” I threatened and shut the door with so much aggression.
