CHAPTER 7Dawn arrived with the usual mist over the land below so that the area where Meztli had seen the fire was hidden from view. They decided to stay where they were for another night. There was enough food and water for a week so the extra night would not stretch their resources too much. By mid-morning the mist had evaporated off and sunshine bathed the area while, being on the shady side of the mountains they remained in shade so would be invisible to anyone looking up from below.
"There they are," Cualli said and pointed out from where the three were standing behind the platform wall.
Meztli squinted and saw a line of five people, all mounted on those strange animals that the conquistadors had brought with them from across the ocean. In her opinion they were quite useless animals
