“f*****g hell!” Nico exclaimed as I entered the back door to the house.
My white smart shirt was covered in Marcelo’s blood along with faint splatters on my face. My hands and arms also had traces on them and my knuckles were swollen. A strand of my dark hair was dangling down the side of my face and I was sweating. It was obvious that I had just beaten the s**t out of Marcelo just by looking at the state of me.
“Does he still live?” Nico joked but I didn’t even smirk back at him. When Nico realised that something was wrong, he lowered his grin and looked at me seriously.
“What is it?” He asked leaning against the banister of the stairs.
“Not here”.
I walked past him and made my way up the stairs, he followed closely behind me, eager to find out what was wrong. I entered the office first and made my way to my desk; by the time I had sat down, Nico was already shutting the door. He slumped down into the chair opposite me and laid back. His elbow was leaning on the arm of the seat and his finger was pressed lightly against his lips. I sighed and prepared myself to explain to Nico what I had found out. I have already released my anger on Marcelo so I have managed to calm down however, I don’t know what Nico is going to do when I tell him.
“I’ve found out what happened to our parents” I began hesitantly. Nico’s eyebrows twitched with confusion but he tried to maintain his expression.
“Mum was shot by Matteo...” I paused. I watched Nico’s reach get caught in his chest.
“...he was ordered by Rickie to kill her. Ezio didn’t know anything about it and wants to help us trap him” I finished. Nico just stared at me, his expression unreadable. After a few awkward seconds dragged by, he moved his finger from his mouth.
“Who told you this?” He asked bluntly.
“Well, that’s the other thing...” I shifted in my seat uncomfortably and cleared my throat.
“Marcelo has been... working for Rickie” I managed to say.
I know what Nico is like when he is hurt and angry. He’s extremely quiet and calm most of the time but when he loses his s**t he is dangerous. There have been times in the past that men have been close to losing their lives at the hands of Nico when they had crossed him. He can be very unpredictable and I was worried about how he was going to react.
“Rickie? For how long?” He asked with a hint of shock.
“He was working for him before he came to us. He was Rickie’s spy, his inside man” I explained. Nico’s jaw tensed slightly as his stared intensified.
“He was doing the same with Ezio, spying on him and causing trouble within his businesses and clan”. Nico took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly.
“That little f*****g rat, I’ll kill him” he grumbled quietly. I swallowed the lump in my throat and said “there’s one more thing”. Nico looked up at me with frustration of there being more betrayal.
“Dad... he’s the one who killed him” I finally confessed. Nico took a moment to process what I was saying. When the rage finally hit him, he slammed his fists down onto the desk and stood up, ready to dart for the door.
“Wait!” I called out and he twisted his head to look at me.
“He might have more information he could tell us!” I said desperately trying to stop him from killing Marcelo.
“I don’t give a f**k Micky! He murdered our father and got away with it for years! It’s about time the he got punished for it!” He yelled at me.
“He will, I promise you! But for now we have to think smartly and address the situation with Rickie. He sent me a threatening email last week and I’m worried that he’s going to act on it soon” I said.
“An email? Why did you tell me?” He asked and I shrugged.
“I don’t know, because there was a lot going on and I didn’t want to deal with it at the time” I explained. Nico huffed dramatically and sat back down.
“You need to tell me these things straight away, if you leave it then things will just get worse for everyone, including Amelia!” He stressed and I lowered my eyes to the desk.
“I know”.
“Your my little brother but you are also our Don and you need to stop getting so distracted by your anger. First thing tomorrow, we are going to call a meeting with the guys and explain to them what is going on. They need to be warned of what’s coming so that they’re prepared. After that, you’ll go and speak with Lorenzo...”
“I already have” I cut him off.
“Really?” He asked in shock and I nodded.
“I told him what was going on and that I might need his assistance once again but this time for someone worse than Ezio”
“And what did he say?” He asked me.
“He told me that he’s with us no matter what. I explained to him about the hit that was put out on him by Rickie and he was more than happy to stand by us and fight against him” I said, forgetting that I hadn’t explained that sort to Nico.
“A hit?!” He exclaimed.
“It’s the reason that Rickie hated our dad so much. Rickie ordered him to kill Lorenzo so that he could be elected for mayor. When dad refused, Rickie wanted revenge so he had mum murdered. Dad was suppose to live with the grief until he was driven insane but he found out about Marcelo’s deceit and tried to kill him, Marcelo managed to defend himself and killed him so that his secret was safe” I explained and Nico narrowed his gaze, the rage increasing dramatically. I thought he was going to run towards the door again but he just tried to suppress his anger so that he was able to talk with me calmly.
“If we are going to get past Rickie’s little side kicks, then we need to find out as much as we can. The way we can do that is by getting Marcelo to tell us but we can’t if you kill him” I reminded him and Nico bowed his head. After nodding slowly, he glanced back up at me.
“I’ll tell the guys to meet in the living room at 7am” he said.
