Caleb
I had arrived in London only an hour ago and checked myself into a hotel, but under a different name, of course. I booked into the fanciest one I could afford. Why? Because that is the last place, people will look for me.
I had everything that I needed. I had weapons, maps and a new phone, but a pay-as-you-go, less chance of someone tracking me then. I need to come up with a plan, one that will get me to Scarlett and soon. I had a couple of calls to make, also.
I ordered myself some room service as I haven’t really had time to eat recently, and I can’t go out looking for Scarlett with no energy. I pulled out my piece of paper I had written the phone numbers of some people on so I could input them in my phone now I have it all set up. I still have about fifteen minutes until my food will be here, so I will go for a quick wash and freshen up.
Just as I got out of the shower, the door chaps. It must be my food, but you can never be too sure.
“Who is it? I shouted.
“Room service.” yelled a lady through the door.
“Great, leave it outside, please,” I shouted back.
I gave it a few minutes to let her walk away from my door, then I went and opened it. There it was, my food on a tray, just waiting for me to tuck into it. I grabbed it quickly and closed the door behind me.
I took a seat on the bed, getting dug into it. I scoffed it, not realising just how hungry I was. My mind kept drifting to Scarlett. Was she being looked after? I don’t know, but I hope so.
Once I was done, I put the tray outside of my door, making sure there was no one around. I head back inside, grabbing my phone. I looked through my contacts. I took a deep breath, hitting the call button. I don’t even know if my contacts have the exact numbers as before. It has been a long time since I spoke to them.
The phone rang a couple of times, and soon enough, a familiar voice was on the other end.
“Hello,”
“It’s Logan,” I whisper.
“Logan, I thought you were dead,” Ben said.
Ben was a police officer, well retired now because he got injured on duty. He is the only person who tried to lead me down the right path. Sadly, the gang’s influence was more potent, but he always said if I needed him, I was to call.
“Nope, I just had to disappear, but I’m in a bit of bother,” I told him.
“What is happening, Logan?” Ben asked.
“When I had to go away, I went up north and met someone, but it turns out she was actually hired to kill me, but she couldn’t go through with it,” I said, but before I could finish, Ben interrupted me.
“What the actual hell Logan, that is craziness.” He said.
“Well, because she couldn’t go through with it, she has now been kidnapped and held by the old gang I ran with, and her hit boss is also involved.” I sighed aloud.
“Ohh dear Logan, you really are in a pickle,” He said. “Are you needing my help in any way?”
“Yes, I could do with it.” I replied, “I need to know where they are hanging about and to be honest, I will take any information you can get on them.”
“Leave it with me, buddy. By the way, Logan, I’m glad you are alive and well,” Ben said, sounding happy.
“Thank you, Ben. I’ll catch up with you later,” I said.
“No worries, I’ll get back to you as soon as, catch you later, Logan,” Ben said before hanging up the phone.
He was one man I knew I could trust! I had three other people to call. Charlene was an ex-girlfriend, but we ended on good terms, and she is now happily married, but she is a cousin of one of the members. She was in the gang when she was younger, but she got out and has nothing to do with any of them, but I hope she knows where they are and can update me on any changes within the gang.
I took a few deep breaths, ringing the number, but it was disconnected! f**k! That is one less person that I know. I know where she stays, but I don’t think me showing up at her door is a good thing. The next person on my list is Jacob, he was in the gang with me, but he always stuck by me and helped me get out. I paced back and forth whilst the phone was ringing. My nerves were shattered right now.
“Hello.” Jacob’s voice sounded as the phone got answered.
“Jacob?” I questioned just to be sure it was him.
“Yes, this is Jacob.” He said.
“Jacob, it’s me, Logan,” I said.
“Hi, I can’t talk right now Lisa, I’m in the middle of something, but I will give you a call back later on.” He said as he hung up on me.
Lisa is his girlfriend. He must be with someone from the gang as that is the only time he would call me Lisa. He had called me Lisa before as I called him when I got away to let him know I was ok, but he doesn’t use my name when he is with anyone who knows me.
I can only hope he hasn’t changed and become as brutal as the other’s because if he has, then there is a good chance he will tell them who was really on the phone. But surely not. Jacob was a decent man, and his circumstances were similar to mine, and thats how we clicked. I just wish he had gotten out when I did. I tried to talk him into coming with me, but he didn’t. He was scared in case they went after Lisa and their daughter. I get that he wants to protect his family. Maybe one day I can help them all get away, well, if I even survive this.
I scroll through my contacts again and highlight the name, Max. He was a guy I went to school with, but when I joined the gang, he went on to university to study computer science. He was always really smart when we were growing up, and he was always mucking about with technology. He would be my best hope to get me the information I could use against the gang if they try to threaten or hurt either of us. I pressed call and patiently waited for him to pick up.
“Hello, Maxwell Cunningham speaking.” He said.
“Max,” I replied.
“Logan, is that you?” He said, sounding very shocked.
“The one and only.” I laughed down the phone, “How are you, Max?”
“I’m very well, thank you,” Max said. “This is my work phone number, I’m not sure how you got it, but that’s why I answer with my full name.”
“Sure thing, mate, I could do with some help if you have the time,” I said questionably.
“Is everything OK?” he asked.
“No, not really, mate, and that is why I need your help, but no one can know you have heard from me or that I am in London,” I said.
“Just tell me when and where to meet you. I can be there in half an hour,” he said.
“Thank you. I will text the details to you. I am at a hotel, probably safer that you come here and meet me,” I said.
Now all the phone calls are done, I need to hope that they all help me and don’t turn me in. I do still need to get a contact number for Charlene, though. I will get Max to find it for me when he comes by the hotel.
