CHAPTER ELEVEN The porch light wasn’t on, and the door was locked. Since Kate had filed for divorce, Jared no longer had a key to the house he still owned with her. With a frown, he stabbed the doorbell once. A minute ticked by. And another. Not good. He hadn’t known what to expect when he arrived, but his hope that she would be happy to see him plummeted. As he stood outside in the dark, he feared she’d changed her mind about their arrangement. He jammed his finger against the doorbell again. After one more minute passed, Jared pulled out his cell phone, but the door opened. She held a flushed, crying Cassidy. “Sorry I took so long.” Frustration filled Kate’s voice. He wanted to wrap his arms around her, but no matter how much he might want to embrace her, he couldn’t. Not yet. T
