11. Deal

I followed Connor to the grand, white mansion I passed earlier with Molly and Blake. The building was impressive and although I was never a fan of glamor - probably because I've never experienced it - the place had some charm to it. Who would have known that girl from nowhere, an orphan will be welcomed in a place like this. Fate can be perfidious. Interior of the Pack House was even more impressive. What does he do for a living? This place must've cost a fortune. "Are you hungry?" - Connor interrupted my nervous glancing at my surroundings. "No, rabbit was enough. But I wouldn't mind something to drink, I can still taste the blood in my mouth." He smirked at my comment and led me to the kitchen. The choice of beverages in the freezer was similar to a store shelf, so in order not to embarrass myself, I decided to go with orange juice. When I was all set Connor led me to the third floor and through the double doors to his office. Just like I suspected judging from the rest of the house Alpha's study was impressive with massive mahogany desk, comfy leather chairs and many gorgeous paintings on the walls. I'm not an Art Critic but those looked costly. Mr Alpha sat behind his desk and gestured for me to take one of the chairs in front of him. "So?" "So?" - I asked back. Man, we are so much alike. I think I got my stubbornness from him, or maybe it's a wolf thing. Either way, we watched one another like we always do waiting for second one to begin. "What are your thoughts after today?" - he elaborated his question. "It was good. You have a nice place here. But I can't stop wondering what you do for a living?" - I asked looking around. Connor chuckled and stood up from his chair and went to one of the shelves, he took two binders and handed them to me. I've opened one with the name 'Arcady'. " We own a part of a beach not far from here, with a five star hotel, marina, SPA and Country Club it's the main workplace for our civilians." "So you're into tourism and recreation? I would have never guessed it." - I flipped a few pages and this place looked as luxurious as everything in this Pack. Smart, make money on rich humans. "Yes, it's a steady income, but we're also into personal security of VIPs. Front-page faces will pay a lot to be guarded by one of our warriors." - he said pointing to the second binder with 'Shadow Security' written on it. I nodded looking through the file with clients' names, and even I knew some of them. " So you don't hide from humans?" " We hide who we are, but for obvious reasons we need to blend in, those two companies are enough for now but Bob is preparing some new investments plans." "Bob?" - I asked "Robert Shaw, out Pack's accountant." I closed the files and handed them back to Connor. Once again silence fell upon us. He glanced at me cautiously like he was planning what to say now. I could tell this situation was new to him too, this is a man who probably never had to ask anyone for anything, yet here I am a 17 year old girl who holds all the cards he wants. Interesting. "So what now?" - I asked breaking the silence. "That's your decision to make. You wanted to get to know our ways, I let you. You wanted to know about our business, I told you. If you want anything else, just ask. But you know what I want from you. So have you decided?" I released a deep breath. "Look, I admit all of this is great, and I for the first time in my life feel like I belong, but I'm not a leader material. Don't you feel a little ridiculous to ask for help from someone like me?" - I asked pointing to my head indicating head problems. "You mean help from my daughter?" he said with a slight smirk. I rolled my eyes. "Connor, I may be your daughter but I don't know you. I wasn't born into this and I don't think I can do it. Can't Blake take over? He seems very concerned about this Pack as you call it." Mr Alpha's smirk fell, and he put an emotionless face on intervening fingers on the desk. " Blake is a great kid, and he would be an amazing Beta when his time comes, but you are my child, and I think your wolf agrees with me that being an Alpha of this Pack is something you both want." "Now I'm your child, huh?" - I whispered under my nose. "You know I'm a werewolf and I heard that." - he said annoyed, getting another eye roll from me. We stared at each other for a while thinking about our bizarre situation. "Could I stay here, and not become an Alpha?" - I asked the question that has been playing in my mind ever since Blake and Molly released me from my hospital cell. "You could, but ask yourself if you would be fine with taking orders from someone else?" - he paused for a moment to let his question sink in - "It's in our nature to follow the strongest one, and from what I saw today Iri won't be obedient, and I don't see her being submissive to someone weaker than she is." "Exactly, I've attacked a girl today, don't you see a problem here?" "That's how we establish hierarchy, weaker need to know their place willingly or the hard way. But even though you couldn't control yourself and you've attacked Agnes you didn't kill her. Jade, you have more self preservation than you think." I thought about his words for a while, yet I couldn't decide if I believed him. He basically had no other option, so he would say all the sweet words to get it his way. Thinking about what I want it was obvious that I feel good here, better than anywhere else. Iri was calmer than ever, I even started to think she's not much of a threat like I previously pictured her. But is it something that I want? That I'm ready for? I guess it's my one time chance. But, there was still something that I needed to do. "Ok, I'll give you the successor you want, but I want something in return." - I said with all the seriousness in me. Small smile appeared on Connor's handsome face. "I'm all ears." "I want revenge, and you will either help me or stay out of my way." His smile once again fell, Connor should better get used to not getting everything his way when it comes to me. "Revenge on who?" - he asked cautiously. "Humans from the hospital, you've found me in." "What kind of revenge?" - he asked with wide eyes. "I want to kill them all." - those words were more Iri's than mine, but after revelations that Connie found out I couldn't think about anything else. And yes, this is what I want in return. "Jade, we can't attack humans." "I'm gonna do it either way. So the question here is if you allow me to return to your Pack afterwards or not?" His gaze was evaluating me, searching for any sign of bluff in my face, but when he found none he reluctantly nodded. "Fine, but I have few conditions as well." "Such as?" "One: you will wait with your vengeance till you're well trained." - it was reasonable so I nodded without hesitation. "Two: you will start preparing to take over right away, and you won't undermine our ways." - Ah, of course Mr Alpha would come up with something like this. I nodded again. "Three: you will start showing me respect in the presence of our Pack. So call me Connor when we are alone, but outside of this office I'm either Alpha or Dad to you." Slight chuckle escaped my lips and he growled in response to this. "As you wish Alpha" - I said, deliberately stressing the last word. - "Should we seal it with a handshake or something?" "Here we seal deals with blood." - he said smirking devilishly at my shocked reaction.
