-Connor P. O. V. -
Another sleepless night, another sparring bringing me more difficulty, another day full of heartache and sorrow. I'm getting weaker with every passing day. I have no idea for how much longer I'll be able to keep it going. I need to find her, otherwise everything I've worked for, everything I lived for will go in vain.
Every track seems to be a dead end. Where is she? And most importantly who is she? My ideas for how to find her are running out, so where should I go next?! She can be anywhere.
Knocking on my office doors disturbed me, like everything these days.
"Come in."
In the doorways stood my Beta Rodger and his son Blake, and momentary I don't like their faces.
"Go on tell me." - I encouraged them.
"Alpha, we have found her, but you are not going to like it." - said Rodger lowering his head in submission. So many years working side by side and he still does that. He's a good and loyal guy. I could always count on him, and it looks like I still can. At least this one thing is constant in my life.
"Is she dead?" - I asked them.
"No."
"Great, take me to her." - I ordered. This is great information. Actually the best one I've got for weeks.
"But Alpha…" - Blake started but I wouldn't hear it. I don't care what he's about to say. If she's alive I need her here in Shadow Paw Pack.
"I don't want to hear your excuses. Take me to her. NOW!" - I don't have time for second thoughts. I've already wasted enough.
"Yes, Alpha." - they both said in unison.
All three of us went out to one of our black SUVs and without another word we drove away to the south, leaving my pack behind. But it will all work out now. Now that I've found her.
I wonder how she is. Is she strong and beautiful, just how I imagined her so many times. I wonder how our first talk will go. Will it be awkward or will we learn one another naturally? I have so many questions, but she probably got even more. How should I act? Maybe a gift would be a good icebreaker? Naah, what would I even buy?! I don't really know her, only about her.
Drive is taking us so long. Too long for my liking. Three hours we've spent in this car seem to drag on forever.
"How much longer?" - I asked impatiently.
"About half an hour. She's on the outstrikes of this town." - Rodger answered.
"This human town?" - I asked confused and he nodded. What is she doing in the human town? What's her story?
Just like my Beta said another thirty minutes of this annoying silence and we stopped in front of the iron gate. It looked like a masion. Could it be, a Pack in the middle of human territory?
Gate got opened and we drove closer to the building. I don't smell any of our kind. That's impossible. This isn't a werewolf pack, there are only humans here. Could it be? Is she a human? Oh Goddess, you can't possibly be that cruel.
Rodger parked in front of the building and Blake and Rog emerged immediately. I on the other hand suddenly felt unsure of my own decision. Is this really the right call? Not that I have any other option. I finally composed myself and joined my pack members by the front doors.
We went inside and by the counter sat a woman in white scrubs. Wait, was it the hospital? Does she work here?
"Hi, we're here to see Dr Summers." - said Rodger to the Nurse. She gave him a short nod and picked up her phone.
After about five minutes of waiting, a man around thirty five came over to us.
"You must be Mr Balfour, I've been expecting you after your assistant visit. I'm Dr Owen Summers, please follow me." - the man introduced himself and we went with him just how he told us. I couldn't put my finger on why I was this nervous. This should be a good thing, not another nerves wrecking experience.
We took the elevator to the third floor, and there turned to the right. This huge place seemed so empty. If this is a hospital then where are all the patients?
Doctor used a keycard to open another set of doors, above which I've noticed the sign. It said 'Psychiatry closed ward'. What the hell was going on?
'Rodger, mind telling me what is going on in here? Why are we entering the Psychiatry wing?' - I asked my Beta through the mind link.
'Alpha, I've tried to tell you. I'm sorry I should have tried harder.'
'Should try harder what?!' - I roared in anger, but it was too late.
Doctor stopped our tour in front of white doors and opened the rectangular cover allowing us to look inside the room.
I peeked through it and in the white room with no windows with only a bed and a night stand was a young girl with auburn hair and skin white like the snow. Her hair seemed to be the only thing in colour other than white in there. She was really beautiful, but what terrified me the most was her pose. She was lying on the bed and all of her limbs were strapped to the bed by her wrists and ankles. She kept on looking up onto the ceiling, not even once spearing us a glance, even though I was fairly positive that she heard us opening a peaky hole. Why hasn't she made eye contact with us? What is wrong with her? What's her story? God damn it, it's not how it's supposed to be. I don't have the time for that.
Doctor must've sensed my disbelief as he decided to speak.
"Mr Balfour, I believe you have found your daughter. We still don't know her name, so we call her Jane Doe."
