Benson’s POV
Ellie hired a small electric car and drove us for miles. I called shotgun, so I could get a good view of where we were going. I’m not sure if I fully trust Ellie.
Rhea taps me on the shoulder and grins at me, “It’s not really called Dragon Valley. But with it being near a volcano and with the geysers, it might as well be. There is steam all the time, like a dragon breathing.” Seeing her smile makes me so happy.
As Ellie drove, I couldn’t help but admire the vast openness of the countryside. All the mountains have snow at the peak of them. Thankfully, thanks to Phillipe, I don’t feel the cold.
“Ellie, we should take them to see the tectonic plates. Seeing the plates isn’t that exciting, but the surrounding area. Oh, Benson, it’s beautiful.” Rhea bragged happily. I don’t even need to see her face to know she’s smiling.
“When we have the time,” Ellie responds. “But we are passing Kolugljúfur. If you want to stop, I can charge the car,” Ellie offered. Rhea bounces around giddily, causing us all to laugh. I want to ask what Kolugljúfur is, but I don’t want to disrupt Rhea’s outburst. It brings a tear to my eye hearing her in such a good mood.
In no time at all, Ellie pulled over and Rhea dragged Ora and me toward a small farm shop. Instead of going inside, she drags us past it and down a set of metal stairs. When we are at the top, she runs down, looking back to make sure we are following her.
Ora and I look at each other and snicker before we follow her. As we made our way down, I heard this massive sound of rushing water. Getting to the bottom, I find Rhea leaning over a metal bar and staring at the biggest waterfall I have ever seen. My jaw drops and I place my arm around her shoulders. With everything going on, I can’t help but take the moment and appreciate the beautiful country with the two most important women in my life. “Beautiful,” I tell Rhea while looking at Ora, the waterfall behind her. If there was a perfect moment in my life, this would be it.
We don’t stay long when Ellie ushers us back to the car. After what feels like she has been driving forever, Ellie flicks the car’s indicator. And drives down a dirt road covered in frost. I could see the volcano Rhea mentioned.
Ellie stops the car in front of a forest. She and Rhea climb out, then they head towards a forest. I can’t see what they are doing until they pull out a backpack each from a tree’s trunk. Ora looks at me and shrugs her shoulders. “Where are we going?” Ora asks. Neither of them answers us. They walk away and we follow. After a nearly half-mile hike through the dense forest, we’ll finally arrive at a huge area filled with water.
“Watch this,” Rhea says, smiling at me, taking Ellie’s bag. I have not seen her smile so much for a long time.
I watch as Ellie makes some random movements at the edge of the water. Then I stare in disbelief as a block of ice rises from the water. But more than that, it has shape. “It’s a house.” Ora gasps.
I stare, still not believing what I am seeing. It even had a bridge to a door. I cautiously followed Ellie and Rhea toward the entrance. I keep Ora close behind me in case the floor collapses under my weight. Inside, there was a single room with a staircase to an upper floor. “There is a room upstairs for each of you,” Ellie told us proudly.
“How?” I asked, pointing at a table and chairs.
“Practice and skill. I have been doing this for a long time,” Ellie says, smirking at me. I am about to ask more questions, but Ora shivers, and Rhea goes over and hugs her.
“Can’t you make a fire?” Ora asks. To which Rhea snickered.
“Fire melts ice.” She responds, stepping away from Rhea. Ora slaps her forehead.
“Of course it does. Duh.” causing us all to snicker.
“I guess I can help keep you warm,” I said, wrapping my arms around her. Ora responds by wrapping her arms around me. Ora stops shivering within minutes. Phillipe howls with delight and I daydream about our future together. “Er Benson,” Ora saying my name while she was wrapped in my arms is like music to my ears. “I think you’re enjoying this a bit too much.” She says, tapping her knuckles against my erection.
“I want to say I’m embarrassed. But a beautiful girl is rubbing up against me and allowing me to touch her. What do you expect?” Ora pulls away, half cringing, half smiling.
“You know where I am if you need warming up,” I said cheekily.
That night, as I curled up on a bed of ice, I thought about Ora. Then, as if my ears were deceiving me, I heard her voice. “Benson, I’m cold.” I heard her voice as she pushed open my door. The next thing I know, she is cuddling up to me.
She could have gone to Ellie or Rhea, but she was here looking for me. Lying next to me. “Mark her,” Phillipe suggested. To which I scolded him. Reminding him she doesn’t have her wolf, and it wouldn’t be consensual. “We don’t even have confirmation she’s our mate!”
Then Ora wraps her leg over me to get closer. It makes me laugh at her suggestiveness. “Benson, why do I enjoy being close to you?” she asks.
“Phillipe and I think you’re our mate. We’re drawn to one another by the bond.”
Ora kisses me, and my face tingles. “From what Matty told me about the mate bond, I think so, too.” She says. She then strokes my arm and kisses me again. The feeling is electric. I want to take her there and then. But it would be wrong. She is going through so much right now, and I would be taking advantage of her vulnerability. Not to mention, my sister is in the next room and this place is far from soundproof.
“Ora, we can’t. Not until your birthday. If we’re mates, I want it to be memorable for all the right reasons.” I tell her as I place her head under my chin. “It’s not long to wait, then we will have our whole lives together,” I tell her, hoping it will pacify her. But in my heart, I am worried. Between now and her birthday, anything could happen. She’s not yet mine, and I could lose her if I’m not careful. “Not a chance,” Phillipe growled.
