Chapter One
Arielle’s POV
“Happy birthday to me,” I whispered to myself when I woke up in the morning.
I was finally eighteen years old. Many of the pups in my pack would be celebrating with their parents or waking up with a surprise birthday party but instead of that, I was waking up to the sound of rats eating up my foodstuff.
Rolling my eyes, I got off the bed and shooed them away before I stretched my bones. They were my alarms every morning. While I was glad that they woke me up every morning in time to start my daily duties, I hated that they ate away half of my food which made me cut down my meals in half.
I wasn’t usually hungry in the mornings so I decided to skip breakfast and go on with the day's duties before I head to college. I skipped into my bathroom in my little cottage house that I could only afford because the Alpha subsidized rent for the Omegas that worked in the pack house.
After I was done bathing, I skipped back to my room and opened my closet. I only had a few clothes in there and most of them were tattered. Last night, I spent some time stitching one of my clothes that looked redeemable, and even though it didn’t look good, at least it was presentable.
I didn’t want to go to school looking all tattered on my eighteenth birthday even though no one really cared about my appearance, except for the bullies that choose to pick on the Omegas whenever they had the chance to. I hated them so much because they have made my life unbearable for the longest time.
When I was done getting ready, I headed to the pack house to finish my duties. I was supposed to wash the dishes that the royal family used to eat breakfast. I had the easiest duty today because I just had to place the dishes in the dishwasher and when I was done with school, I would come and bring them out and sort them.
“Good morning, Omega Barbara.” I greeted the chief maid, and she gave me a slight nod. She never replies to anyone’s greetings but no one cares because if you wanted to get your paycheck early, you had to be on her good side.
I started to stack the dishes and when I was done, I looked over at the clock and cursed under my breath. I didn’t want to be late for school because I had to walk there and it was a little bit far. I said bye to Barbara before I started to sprint on the road.
If I go early, I would have a higher chance of avoiding the bullies. They usually come late and whichever Omega that comes after them gets to face their wrath. When I got to school, I was still panting as I stood in front of the majestic gates of Latria College. It was the only college in our pack, which is why both the poor and rich, warriors and omegas, all studied here.
I let out a sigh when my breath steadied before I got in. The school was packed, which meant that I was late. I cursed under my breath before I started to walk towards the entrance with my head hung low because I would hate to attract attention to myself. When I reached the school corridor, the school suddenly went silent.
“She never fails to look like trash.”
“Her clothes look like they’ve been picked out of the city dump.”
“She’s so freaking ugly.”
A bitter feeling settled in the pit of my stomach as I raised my head, confused as to why everyone was bickering and then, I saw everyone looking at me. There were smirks on their faces as they stared me down, and that was when I remembered what day was today. It was the day I got bullied by the school.
Every day, a different Omega is chosen to be picked on by the entire school population. I usually came early on my day and hid in the bathroom stalls after every class to avoid people but today that I was late, I had a strong feeling that hell was about to be unleashed on me.
My heart was beating a million beats per second and my legs were jelly as I walked down to the hallway. I wasn’t going to allow this upset me. It was my eighteenth birthday and was supposed to be the best day of my life.
“Well, well, well. See who is coming to school by this time.” Someone said behind me, and I turned around to face the queen of the school, Alisha.
She is the daughter of the Alpha’s strongest warrior and the most beautiful girl in the school, which was why she belittled every Omega she comes across on school grounds.
“Alisha, please,” I said under my breath.
I didn’t want to remember my eighteenth birthday this way. I was scared to my bones. Everyone had come around and gathered around us in a circle to witness the drama, and I have never wished for the ground to open up and swallow me so much.
“Wow,” she looks down at my outfit. “Your clothes aren’t tattered today. What is the secret?” She wiggled her brows.
“I… I stitched it.” I swallowed the lump in my throat.
“That won’t make you look any better. You, my love, are so ugly that not even well-stitched clothes could make you look attractive.” She snarled.
“I’m sorry,” I mumbled this time, my eyes glued to the floor.
She made a hissing sound under her breath before she turned around, and I raised my head to look at her. One minute, my mouth was hanging wide and the next a bucket of something gooey was splashed on me.
“Ouuu.” The crowd collectively voiced as I looked down at my body.
Red paint was trickling down my skin, and the smell made me lightheaded.
“How about now? You look so much better, Arielle.” She laughed, taking a step back.
My face was heated as I felt my eyes glisten with tears. The whole school was laughing at me and I just stood there, powerless.
I turned my figure to wash up my body before it started to dry but Alisha dragged me back with my hair, and I gasped as a sharp pain stung through my scalp, then she pushed me down until I was kneeling before her.
“Now clean these up like a helpless little slave.” She shoved her expensive-looking stilettos to my face.
“Please Alisha just let me go. I’m sorry.” I choked out as tears started to stream down my face.
“Lick it.” She said firmly, shoving her feet closer to me.
She wasn’t going to back down until I did so. I was afraid that the next time I spoke, she was going to kick me in the face and I would spend the rest of my day with a bruised and bleeding jaw.
I did as she said. I crouched down to her feet and licked her shoes. She shoved the tip in my mouth and I choked as the taste of sand and dirt filled my mouth. I tried not to think of where those shoes might have matched over to avoid myself from puking.
“Good little girl,” she laughed, and the rest of the school population cheered at her. “Now you have a taste of what you always look like. Trash.”
I gagged as the hallways erupted into another fit of laughter. I couldn’t stop the tears that streamed down my face. I stood up to my feet as I waited for the laughter to die down and for everyone to leave before I went to the toilet and cleaned up but just then, the hallway went quiet.
I thought it was a lecturer that came in and students started to make way for him to enter, but I was shocked to see the sexiest men I have ever seen approaching my figure, then they stood before me. Their mere presence knocked the air off my lungs.
They were the most attractive men I’ve ever laid eyes on, and I felt a fluttering feeling in my stomach just by the sight of them.
“Mates,” Talia said, and I gasped. There was no way I was mated to three men.
