As they walked back to the car, Steven had the unsettling feeling that someone watched them. He glanced over his shoulder at the emptiness behind them, then frowned at the dark pines that stood like a barricade along the other side of the road, but he couldn’t see anything staring back. Thank God, he thought as a shiver ran down his spine. What would he do if he had? He shook his head to clear that away. They were alone, they had to be. Still, he moved closer to Carlos, and when his lover slipped a comforting arm around his shoulder, Steven sighed in relief. “You all right?” Carlos asked. Steven nodded.
