Chapter 4: Can’t Stop Thinking About Her

989 Words
Selena stormed off towards Maddie. The girl looked surprised with Selena pushing Lucas away all of a sudden. “What happened?” “Ah, now you were looking at me, huh?” Selena got back at her, regretting it the moment the words came out of her mouth. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to be an i***t. I’m sorry.” “Okay, relax, girl. Don’t worry!” Maddie gave her a warm smile. Selena felt that she didn’t deserve her friendship at all. She was just frustrated with the whole situation and didn’t know how to react. “I’m going home. You can stay here if you want, I don’t want to spoil your night.” But Maddie was already grabbing her purse. “I’m going with you.” She said something on William’s ear and then locked her arms with Selena’s, pulling her to the bar’s exit. They walked a short distance at total silence, when Maddie finally took the courage to ask again. “Can you tell me now what happened?” Selena took a deep breath before looking at her friend. She was still feeling bad for snapping back at Maddie. “I'm sorry for talking to you like that before. I was just out of my mind.” Selena apologized once more. “Oh, my God! You already said that. Can you please just tell me what happened? Why did you push him like that? His friends didn’t seem very happy about it.” Maddie added looking at Selena. “Really? I didn’t even notice it.” Selena said with a deep sigh. “It’s just that I couldn’t stand his arrogance!” Maddie frowned. “Really? He seemed to be such a nice guy.” “Yeah? Well, he’s not!” Selena didn’t really think he wasn’t a nice guy. She was just pissed at him because he was able to affect her very easily. She didn’t like how powerless she felt near him. But Maddie didn’t need to know that. It wouldn’t happen again, so Selena didn’t have to give such details to her. It would only make her friend laugh at her for being so childish. “Let’s just go home and rest. Maybe you’re just tired.” Maddie tried to comfort Selena. But it was useless. She couldn’t get Lucas out of her mind the whole night. A few hours later, Lucas arrived at home, still thinking back about what had happened at the bar. He had finally met her in person. Not that he hadn’t seen her before, but he never had the chance to get near her, sense her flowery and intoxicating smell, hear her voice. While daydreaming about Selena, Lucas’ phone started ringing on his jeans’ pocket. He grabbed the device and looked at the screen. “Damn it!” he murmured. It was his ex-girlfriend, Demi. He wasn’t in the mood to talk to anyone, specially not her. Demi was a blonde and clingy girl from his pack and, for some reason, they used to date a while ago. Lucas was going through a tough moment in his life at the time, and Demi was always around, offering him comfort and a nice company. He was feeling needy and vulnerable, and they started a relationship. A few years passed since they ended things, but Demi never seemed to accept that. She was always trying to get him back. But since the first time he saw Selena at college, he couldn’t stop thinking about her. She appeared on his dreams all the time, and the magnetism he felt every time he saw her was indescribable. He never felt like that about anyone. He never felt like that when he was dating Demi. He just wanted to be able to protect Selena and be around her all the time. But he never had a chance to properly get close to her. It was obvious to him that she was his mate. It couldn’t be anything else. That bond was too strong for him to ignore. It was weird to see that Selena didn’t realize that as well. She had never seen him on college before, but it was actually really funny to see her so uncomfortable at the bar. He was pretty sure that she was feeling the same things he felt, but she was clearly trying to ignore it. And he couldn’t help but tease her. She was incredibly captivating when she was angry. He thought he would be able to have more control over himself when she arrived there. But those grayish eyes were hypnotizing to him. He couldn’t stop staring at her the whole time. It was kind of a bummer that Robbie asked her out. He didn’t see that coming for sure. But at the end of the day, he was Selena’s mate. He couldn’t fight destiny. But Selena would have to accept him first. Even though they were mates, Lucas couldn’t force her to stay with him. There were some stories about wolves that didn’t accept their mates before. They simply ignored the strong bond, although Lucas couldn’t get how. It was a hard thing to understand. They had the wolf bond, but at the same time, the human feeling. They were independent situations. So Lucas would have to do everything he could to win Selena over. He would have to make her fall in love with him, just like he was in love with her.
