Onyx didn’t go to my school. Past tense. He goes to my school. Present tense. Onyx is in my grade. My mind was racing, and it hadn’t stopped since that moment in the hallway. Not when I met Joey at our lockers, not when I spilt my drink on myself at lunch, not when I climbed in her car on the way home from school. My eyes were scanning every boy in the school; he was here somewhere. “Was your English class today as terrible as mine?” Joey groaned as we sped out of the parking lot. I was thankful I had tonight off work and that in just a few hours I would see Onyx.
