3 Sam hurriedly leaned over the rail to look down to the lower floor, but there was no sign of her irate supervisor. Right now, probably for the only time in her working life, she wished Mrs. Winkle hadn’t left her. Sam glanced over her shoulder at the open doorway with the long hallway beyond it. To her horror the entrance slowly started to close, and Sam jumped through the doorway before the door clicked closed behind her. Without turning around, Sam fumbled for the knob and was shocked to find it was locked on this end. She had no choice but to go forward if she ever wanted to go back.
