My Meds

1174 Words
{Cassie’s POV} Professor Larren ran back into the room after about 20 minutes and was all smiles. “I tried to contact the owners of the college and no so luck, but their sister is a student here and helps with some things here and there so I gave her a call. She said she’ll meet us out front in the quad!” He smiled brightly. “Come on, we can’t keep her waiting! This could be an amazing start for you!” I smiled, grateful that he would be so kind as to do this for me, and my heart skipped a beat as he mentioned this being a great start. I needed this, I wanted this, but suddenly my eyes grew heavy and I cursed under my breath. I followed behind the professor and checked in my bag for my medicine. The doctors told me that I have a rare condition, it started the day of my 16th birthday, and if I didn’t take my meds I would grow weak and my body would give out. Normally this resulted in me passing out, and sometimes during these spells, I would get hurt as a result from falling. I dug through my bag but couldn’t find my meds. “Professor, I would love to meet her, but is there any way this can wait until tomorrow, I need to grab something from my apartment.” I said softly. “We’re almost to the quad now, how about you meet with her, and ask her to schedule a meeting for tomorrow, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind.” He said as we made our way out the large double doors and into the quad, all of the students had left already, probably on their way to grab something to eat, or some even onto different classes. Suddenly we saw a woman running out way. She had short black hair, it was about to her shoulders, and bright blue eyes. She was tall, about 5’8, and her build was slim but toned. She ran to us and smiled brightly. “Professor, this must be the young woman who solved The Comet! I know it couldn’t have been her!” She sneered over my shoulder. It wasn’t until then that I noticed that Regina was still behind me. “Hello to you too Layla!” She said in a snarky tone. “Yes this is her, Cassie, she’s a first year student, and she’s excellent. She’s the only student I have that has all top grades on her tests, not only that but her research into Black Holes is remarkable.” He smiled over at me. I couldn’t help the small blush that spread across my face, it was so amazing to have such a remarkable scientist speak praises about me. “Thank you for the kind words Professor.” I smiled softly and lowered my head. I looked up to the woman in front of me, holding my hand out to her. “Hello, I’m Cassie, but please call me Cass!” She reached out, shaking my hand and smiled brightly. “It’s so amazing to meet someone who actually solved The Comet, not only that but Professor Larren has been speaking your praises to my brothers and I since you started school here. It’s an honor to meet you, I’m Layla, Layla Fields!” “The honor is mine, I would really love to stay and talk more about all of this, but I was curious if maybe we can schedule a meeting. I seem to have misplaced something that I need, leaving it at home isn’t normally something I do, and it’s very urgent that I get home and take care of something.” I tried to be vague, but not sound crazy. “Of course, I’ll call my brothers and we’ll all meet here in the deans office around 10:00, tomorrow morning, how does that sound?” She asked. I felt weak, and tired, my eyes growing heavier and heavier and my body feeling exhausted. “That sounds amazing, thank you!” I smiled and turned on my heel, sadly a wave of dizziness decided to hit me at that moment. As I turned I dropped to the ground with a thud. I sat up slowly gripping my head, I pulled my hand away feeling wetness and looked at it. Blood streamed around my hand. “Shit..” I muttered under my breath. “Are you okay?” Layla dropped to her knees beside me and slid her thighs under my head. “I-I think so.. I’m just.. I’m so tired..” I muttered closing my eyes. “Don’t let her fall asleep!” The professor yelled running to us. He pulled out his phone and called someone before turning back to us. “An ambulance is on the way, you’ll need stitches Cassie..” he said looking down at me. My eyes were heavy, and it took everything in me to keep them open. “Y-Yes Professor..” I said weakly. “It’s okay Cassie, they’ll be here soon.” He reassured me. Layla pulled my hair back away from my face and secured it into a bun. “There, that’ll keep it from getting stuck in your wound.” She said pulling out a pack of tissues from her back and holding some to my head. I closed my eyes, and though they told me not to go to sleep, I couldn’t resist keeping them closed. Just a few minutes, just a little bit of rest, then surely I’ll be A okay! I woke up to the sound of beeping, my head throbbing. I looked around slowly, and saw an iv in my arm, my sleeve of tattoos fully on display. What happened to my sweater? I looked down and noticed I was in my tank top. “Doctor she’s awake!” I heard Layla’s voice as the door flung open and she ran out, soon a doctor ran in, and began looking over me. I winced as he touched my forehead, pain searing through me. “Alright, you have a concussion, along with a large gash that we had to stitch up. Luckily you got here quickly, and your friend was able to slow the bleeding. You needed some blood when you came in, and we were able to get you hooked up, and now we’re giving you some fluids. I’ll be right back with a prescription for the nausea, and the head pain. You’ll be sore for a few days, may have minor confusion and some dizzy spells, as long as you rest and take your meds you should be fine. If you have any questions a nurse will be in soon, along with myself. I’ll do one more look over you, and make sure everything’s okay, and from there we’ll try to get you out of here.” He smiled. “Thank you..” I said softly before laying back onto the bed and trying to get comfortable.
