Rosalina POV:
"Hello?"
"Rosalina." I stifled a sigh and my mother's voice rang through my phone. I could already tell she wanted something.
"Mom." I mumbled lowly. "What do you need?"
"Do I always have to need something?"
"Yes." I deadpanned.
"I'm still your mother, Rosie, show some respect." She scolded. "I'm coming over in a little, be sure to leave the door unlocked, honey." She didn't give me time to think of an excuse before she hung up.

When she had said she'd be here in a little, I didn't think she was already on her way.
I sat there unamused, not having the time I usually take to mentally prepare myself for her arrival. It was always constant reminders that I was single and currently out of a job or begs to have children already. "Just listen, Rosie. You know my old friend, Glenda, we got in touch recently and she was telling me about her sons. She mentioned they were looking for a new assistant and of course I have to bring you up. How you graduated with a great degree and have so much knowledge about taking care of men."
I rolled my eyes. "Mom, if, I was even thinking about, I wouldn't be 'taking care' of them. I'd be their assistant."
She clasped her hands together, clearly joyed. "But that's the thing! It's more than an assistant. You take care of their personal needs too." My eyebrows went up. "You know, cooking, cleaning, laundry, things like that. It pays really well."
"I'm not flooded with all these student loans to be a maid, mom."
She rubbed my shoulder. "You wouldn't be a maid, honey. And you would still work with business and whatnot. It's just a plus." She nudged me lightly. "I know those interviews haven't really been working in your favor. I hate seeing you upset, I just want to help." I forced a small smile and nodded. "We were talking and she seemed really happy with what I told her about you. I even got an interview!"
Not all that pleased with the 'maid' part, I did feel hope flicker in my stomach. "So soon?"
"Of course. The earlier the better. And it will help in the future when you settle down in have kids."
-
Mom smoothed out by skirt and gave me an encouraging smile. "You'll do great, honey, don't be so nervous. Besides, it's only meeting their mom." I didn't know if that was worse. I wasn't given time to ponder when a knock sounded through the room.
"Glenda," Mom greeted with a hug, "thank you so much for coming."
"Of course! You must be Rosaline." She grabbed my hand. "I've heard a lot about you from your mom, it's so nice to meet you."
I put on a fake smile and nodded. "Likewise, thank you for the opportunity." We made small talk for a while, longer than what I felt was just for politeness. She hadn't even asked about my education or career choices yet.
A sudden laugh tore me from my thoughts. "Oh you know how boys are! Don't you agree, Rosalina?" I could only nod along with another forced smile. "For as smart and successful my boys are, they seem to forget basics needs. I feel I may have babied them a bit much as they grew up," She laughed so fondly, "that's why I'm so happy to have heard from your mother you were looking for a job. From what I've heard, you sound perfect." A genuine smile painted my lips.
"Thank you."
"If you accept, I'd be more than happy to have you look after them. Cooking, cleaning, you know. I'm sure your mom explained it all. The boys will have to speak to you about your assistant role but I see no reason not to hire you. Do you accept?"
My fingers pulled at my skirt as I thought about it. After a moment, I nodded. "Yes."
"Perfect." She clapped. "Can you start this upcoming Monday? I'll of course go over everything with you, although it's a pretty self explanatory job." She continued to explain times, scheduling, p*****t, and everything I would need to do.
After she'd left, Mom used this as an excuse to drink. I huffed out a small laugh and silently thanked her with a hug. I pulled back to find my phone ringing.
After what seemed like minutes of digging through the couch, I found it. "Hello?"
"Rosie, get your ass down here. We're gonna get wasted and have a girl's night."
I snorted but headed to my room to change. "Someone break up with you?" She cursed at me before cutting the line.
