LILAC
“I’m strong,” I muttered, the only thing I could absorb from what Senna had told me.
She nodded enthusiastically, “Yes, you’re finally getting something. You’re much stronger than a regular she-wolf. You opened the cage with your bare hands and fought those demons to set us free.”
Senna pointed at her neck, “This shackle, which you’re also wearing, prevents us from using our supernatural abilities. But you still managed to open that cage with sheer strength. I overheard them saying they put you in a stronger cage, though.”
I examined the human-sized cages around us. I doubted I could even bend a regular cage, let alone one like this. Despite my doubt, I still attempted to do as Senna told me. I felt a surge of strength I had never experienced before. However, it wasn’t enough to even slightly bend my cage.
“Sorry, I can’t do it,” I conceded after several attempts. The demon mentioned that I had been hit in the head earlier, and now I was starting to feel it. Or maybe it was just my head throbbing from the fact that I was dropped into what felt like a fantasy novel!
I held my head, and another surprise greeted me. My hair was now platinum blonde, unlike my natural black hair, which I had never considered getting dyed. The thought of looking in a mirror suddenly terrified me.
Senna was about to respond, but I caught the scent of the demons approaching once again. I wasn’t sure how I knew, but there were a lot of things that I didn’t understand right now.
Strangely, my husband’s mistress trying to kill me seemed easier to figure out than all of this.
“They’re here,” I mumbled, and the demons quickly appeared.
The first person I saw when I woke up was the same man who had pulled my cage out of its place. They had done the same for Senna. The sound of the wheels scraping against the floor made me flinch, but where they would bring us scared me even more.
“Thank you,” Senna mumbled as her cage was pushed forward. She didn’t look scared, as if she had already accepted her fate.
I was left in a corner while they reached the stage. I couldn’t see the people outside the stage due to the thick curtains that covered my position from the audience.
Another man appeared from the other end of the stage, wearing a mask covering his eyes and half his face. He started the auction with an enthusiasm that I couldn’t stomach. They were trafficking people without any remorse. It was sickening.
I didn’t want to live in a world like this, but I had no choice. For now, I had to survive.
“In front of you stands a rare species, guaranteed to be worth your money. An ancient creature, most commonly known as a Fae. With a Fae by your side, a bountiful harvest is assured, and with their psychic abilities, you can easily employ them for assassination. With the right training, of course. Assassination training is not part of our service, but you can hire me if you wish. I don’t mind a little sideline.” The host threw out what I assumed was a joke, and I heard the bidders laugh.
“This little fairy starts at a hundred thousand.”
I firmly closed my eyes as the bidding began. Senna was crying silently and didn’t do anything to resist. Soon, the bidding ended, and she was sold for a staggering six hundred thousand.
I thought I would be next, but they started auctioning different things, from cursed objects to relics I had never heard of before. It went on for more than an hour. Maybe already two hours had passed? I’m not really sure.
“And now, for our main event. One of the rarest creatures you’d ever see,” he introduced me while a demon pushed my cage in the middle of the stage. The blinding light had me squinting for a second, but I quickly recovered.
Finally, I was able to see the people bidding. My eyes roamed, and suddenly, I felt my heart beat erratically when my eyes met the man alone in the last row. He was also staring at me like he was staring right into my soul.
Mate.
I flinched once again when I heard a voice in my mind that somehow mirrored mine, but I’m sure it wasn’t me. Before I could try to figure out what was happening, I heard the host introducing me... or this person I inhabited.
“Right before your eyes is one of the rarest werewolves, believed to be favored by the goddess of the moon above all werewolves. A White Wolf that comes once in every hundred years.”
A what now?
There was a sudden commotion in the bidders, and the host immediately settled them.
“Now, now. We’ll settle this easily with the bidding, starting from five million!”
My eyes widened at the starting bid, and I watched as they quickly tried to raise it.
“Ten million, fifteen, thirty, fifty million from the gentleman at the back,” the host exclaimed with delight.
My head spiraled in fear. If the person I happened to inhabit was so valuable, I could only fear what would happen to me.
“Okay, let’s take a little break. It’s crazy out here. You had me out of my breath, and I’ve been dead for over a century!”
I could smell everyone’s anticipation mixed with annoyance and desire, but all paled compared to the man in the last row. He never let his gaze away from me, and it had me shivering in both fear and curiosity. It’s not a simple desire that I feel for him. I sense intense desperation, something that I only felt when I was fighting for my life when I was drowning.
One look and I already knew that he was dangerous, and yet, I couldn’t stop myself from meeting his gaze. His eyes were as sharp as his features. The more I look into his eyes, the more it seems like he has been through a lot of struggles in his life.
His messy, brown hair was stylishly disheveled, framing his face in a way that made him look effortlessly cool. Everyone was wearing formal attire, and so was he, but his tie was loosely tied. I’m not sure if it was intentional, or he’s just not comfortable with what he was wearing, but he could easily be a model for high-end fashion brands.
I lightly shook my head. I shouldn’t be checking him out when I’m in the middle of danger.
People continued to murmur, but the man continued to stare at me as if I’d disappear if he turned his back on me. I should be scared, and I do, but not as much as I thought I would.
The auction resumed after a few minutes. Everyone was tense, and so was I.
A woman raised her board, “Seventy million for the white wolf.”
“A hundred million!” An old man yelled.
“Five hundred million.”
There was complete silence after his bid. Even the demons were stunned by the amount he offered without blinking. I felt goosebumps running down my spine. The voice in my head continued to say that the man was our mate, even though I didn’t understand what that meant.
“Going once... going twice, white wolf sold for five hundred f*****g million!”
One of the demons leaned toward the cage with a grin as if he had hit the lottery. “Have fun with the demon alpha. This is going to be a sight.”
