CHAPTER2

A flurry of hurried footsteps receded, and the door slammed shut, muffling all sound. Jane gazed at the dismal ceiling, consumed by an endless rage and regret. When she first joined the entertainment industry, she was a novice, only able to land minor roles with a modest income. Desperate to cover her brother’s medical expenses, she received unexpected aid from Ciara Tyla. She sought to repay the debt, but Ciara adamantly refused, insisting that she was merely accruing good karma. Ciara’s assistant informed her that Ciara was in need of a stuntwoman. Disliking the notion of indebtedness, Jane offered herself up as a replacement. Later, she discovered that her agent had secured her a lucrative commercial and two high-budget scripts, one of which featured her as the lead actress, an auspicious start to her career. Now it was clear that Ciara had been aware of these developments, and had deliberately conspired to stymie her ascent. Ciara was not as amiable as she appeared, and her exacting work standards bordered on cruelty. She even meddled in Jane’s personal life. Over the past six months, Jane had sustained numerous injuries, but refrained from complaint, as Ciara had been her benefactor. Who could have guessed that the kindness she had held in her heart would be exploited by Ciara? Ciara claimed that Jane had offended someone she shouldn’t have, but Jane could not fathom who that might be. Perhaps she was referring to Jane herself. Actress Ciara Tyla was not one to be trifled with! Jane found the situation absurd, a consequence of her own folly. Suddenly, she felt a wave of heat surge through her body. She carelessly ripped off her collar, experiencing an inexplicable sensation. She recalled Ciara’s earlier comment, suggesting that something had been added to the wine. Was Ciara planning to use her as a stepping stone tonight? No, absolutely not! She could not allow Ciara to succeed, no matter what. Jane struggled to sit up, rose unsteadily, and made her way towards the door. Upon opening it, the blinding light disoriented her. Not knowing where the elevator was, she leaned on the wall and turned left. As she took a few steps, she heard an indecent male voice from behind. “Room 516, right? I’m here. I’ll go in and unwrap the present you prepared for me.” Jane’s body tensed. Room 516 was the room she had just stayed in. She remembered Salem reading out the room number. Could it be Director Rebel? She couldn’t risk being caught, so she had to leave quickly. Jane’s heart raced, her breathing became rapid, and the strange sensation in her body intensified. She leaned against the wall, feeling weak and her vision blurry. With gritted teeth, she pushed herself off the wall and continued walking. Suddenly, she collided with something and stumbled backwards. Just as she thought she was going to fall, a strong hand wrapped around her waist, preventing her from falling. A pleasant scent of cologne mixed with alcohol filled her nose. She looked up and saw a tall, handsome man standing before her. Damien Wolfe had his hands on her waist, his hazel eyes fixed on her disheveled appearance with surprise and coldness in his voice. “Jane, you...” His words trailed off as his pupils dilated. Before she knew it, his lips were on hers, silencing her. Her arms wrapped around his neck, and they kissed passionately like vines entwining.
