Chapter 1
The Next Alpha
Chapter 1
She pulled the blanket over her silky skin, feeling the man's fingers over the soft skin on her back.
She gave a low moan and it seemed to encourage him, as he propped her up and started to kiss her. She just needed to forget for this one night, and reestablish her own pride in herself.
His kisses were slow, sensual, and he seemed like he wanted to take care of her.
Ironically, she didn't know him, or even his face.
He was tracing small kisses down her spine now, and she could feel his hands rubbing the tender skin of her belly. She reached out her left hand to her back, so she could hold his head. He kissed the hand she extended, before letting her grab his hair. His hair was soft in her hand, and she found herself smiling and feeling it.
It helped, really.
She had felt it like a slap on her face when Chris had done what he did, but somehow, she had seen it coming. It didn't mean that it hurt any less, though.
Kaitlyn was the embodiment of perfection. In her face, her body, her voice, her lineage...she had everything. Also, she was the last white wolf from the waning moon clan, and the eclipsed moon pack, the largest and most powerful pack in the entire wolf county. She was, of course, the last of her kind.
The first thing you'd notice about her were her eyes. Big, teal colored eyes that seemed to have golden irises encircling it. Her straight small nose, her perfect light milky skin. Her red rosebud lips, half the men of the pack have fantasized about kissing it. The other half have never seen her. Her black hair was always big and curly and fell in waves down her back. Slim, voluptuous and well trimmed body completed her. To top it all, she was the only daughter of the reigning alpha, the only person in the entire pack worthy enough to take her father's throne.
It was common knowledge that her husband would rule with her, so it was quite an enviable position. A sizeable portion of men had prayed to the moon goddess to not let her have a mate, so there would be a contest for her.
On her twentieth birthday, she found her mate, to the extreme happiness of her father, who claimed the lunar spirit of her mother was guiding them, and much to the disappointment of others.
She supported herself as he reached around, feeling her body. It didn’t feel like a one night stand, it felt good, really good. She had scouted him, using an anonymous name on the pack's website. Why? He looked quiet. The pack's website was their number one stand in technology, and it was mostly to discuss or make friendships. When she had stumbled on his profile, he seemed like he didn't want to be known, so she had hit him up. She told him to come covered, but she would reveal her face to him. She had done just that, and when she had requested him to have a one night stand with her, she didn’t know whether he had been excited, unwilling or neutral about it.
Now she knew.
She could feel it from the way he touched her, from the way he tenderly kissed her neck, from the way he felt through her hair, like he had always wanted to do this. She only closed her eyes and savored it, so she could stop herself from thinking about Chris.
Chris was her childhood friend, who had always been with her, even while she dated Aiden. Aiden was well, one topic she didn’t want to discuss, but Chris had been around all through.
It was no surprise when, on her twentieth birthday, the mate bond had led her up to him, where he stood in front of the fire, under the full moon. They had shared their first kiss then, even though he had seemed a little hesitant. No one was surprised. The bond they shared was common knowledge, and there were rumors that she would reject her mate, whoever he was and pick Chris. He was immediately given most of the alpha's roles to handle, since her father wanted to retire from it all. He had always been distracted, and she knew of his girlfriend, Linda. But Linda wasn't her match at all, being an omega, and an average looking brunette.
It came as a huge blow when earlier that day, Chris had called her and her father, and rejected her as his mate. The mate bond severing didn't hurt half as much as her heart breaking did. She wasn't in love with him, don’t confuse it, but her ego, her esteem was in shatters on the floor, not being rejected for a worthy opponent, even though she knew she had none, but being rejected for a slow witted girl with less than average look and no status at all was worse.
She knew she had to reestablish that pride, but her head had been so messed up, especially after going through the pain of the severing of the mate bond. "I am sorry." He had said to her and her father. She had almost slapped him, but had managed to bite down the violence and flipped him a middle finger instead. While she was walking out, she had found Linda standing close to the door, and on seeing her, she had lowered her head. That's right, that was where she belonged, below her. Way below her. She had left without uttering a word.
Now she was here, a man she didn’t know healing her wounds, making her forget. She gave a sigh as he finally finished, helping her lay down comfortably. "Thank you. " He deserved it. She was never one to say that, since she rarely ever needed favors, but this was big and she needed to say it.
She was starting to feel sleepy, and her eyes had started drifting close when she felt his arms close around her, his face nuzzled in her neck. She wouldn’t have recognized his face even if she had taken a peek then, since it was pitch black in the room. He cuddled her up close to him, like they were a couple, not two people who would go their separate ways the next morning and never look back again.
"Anything for you." He said to her, and she believed it.
Chapter 2
The rays of sunlight poured into the room in bright orange hues, casting a glow on everything in the room. Kaitlyn's skin glowed and reflected the sunlight, and she raised a hand to shield her eyes from the sun.
It was around eight in the morning, and not exactly the time she liked to wake up. Most times, her wolf energy would dominate her if she woke this early, since her human was still asleep.
She turned on her back, dragging the blanket to cover her bare back, and the shuffling of paper on her skin made her sit up. She unpinned the paper from the blanket and turned it around. She found a note written in elegant cursive. "You are still intact. Just a little nip on your neck."
She stopped reading and turned to the mirror, pushing her hair to the side. There was nothing on the left, so she pushed the hair to the right, and there it was, a beautiful love bite. She smiled and took the paper again to read.
"I figured whoever hurt you, wouldn't like the impression. Anything for you."
She sighed and carefully folded the paper. It was time to come out of the fantasy world she had created for herself for a night. She wished time had been slower, as she watched the paper and patted it.
"Time to go back home." She said to the mirror.
"We will need a few renovations for the pack house, also security at the borders of the pack seem a bit lacking, since most of them are in here, please deploy others to fill in. Also, we need a more reliable food source, since the one we had is..."
"And I also need you hand over your responsibilities as alpha back." Chris froze, then sent the man he had been talking to away.
The man paid respects to Kaitlyn, who was standing behind Chris, her eyes sharp. Her long black hair was caught in a ponytail, and she was wearing a black open shoulder baggy top, with a dark brown mini skirt. She wore dark boots and had light make up. Her head was titled to the side, and she stood with her leg crossed.
"Kaitlyn...we looked every where for you, where have you been?" He moved forward, reaching his arms out to her.
"Don't touch me." She said, without moving an inch, and casting a menacing look at the hand.
He dropped the hand and cleared his throat. "I am sorry, I f****d up."
"You should be sorry for yourself, to be honest. You are the one who's about to lose everything." She picked a glass cup from the table she had been leaning on, poured herself some juice and rolled it in her hands.
Chris looked torn and dumbfounded, and he swallowed a bit. "Kaitlyn, maybe we should talk.."
"I have nothing to say to you." Her voice was dark and feminine as she said it, and she raised her eyes from the glass to look at him, a one sided smirk playing on her lips. "You should have gone over every tiny detail before rejecting me. You were always the cautious one. Always calculating, always weighing. What changed you? The love you have for your dimwit girlfriend?"
He closed his eyes as she said it and she burst into humorless, mocking laughter.
"That must have hurt the lover boy. Tsk, tsk, tsk." she took a sip from the glass, and leaned back, her body draped on the wall, her neck in full view.
"Kaitlyn, I thought you would understand. You are, after all, my childhood friend." She raised her class cup as if about to clink it with him. "Right there. That's where you f****d up. You threw away years of history and togetherness for one girl. A status less, average wolf." She laughed and under it, you could hear a growl. Her wolf was active and angry, and her muscles seemed tense now.
His eyes shifted from hers and on its journey to the ground, caught the reddish spot on her neck.
"What is that on your neck?" He asked.
He didn’t know why, but he felt betrayed, knowing fully well, the only thing that could have left that scar.
She smiled without looking at him. "I am sure you know that's a love bite." She said simply and took another sip. She smacked her lips in a teasing manner and crossed her legs.
"You slept with someone."
"Yep." She answered, popping the p.
"How could you do that?" He advanced, holding her shoulders tight. "How could you even think of sleeping with another.."
A slap landed on his cheek, and his hands fell off her shoulders, one protectively going to cover the left side of his face. He turned back to her now, his eyes flaming.
She pushed her pony tail back and raised a brow. "You have the audacity to ask me that? Really?" she gave a low laugh. "I should really have put you in your place earlier. You are just as dimwitted as your low class wolf girlfriend."
She walked past him, her hair splashing on his face behind her and he closed his eyes. He needed to control his anger, and his feelings.
There was nothing he could do now. He loved Linda, but the alpha position...he'd gotten so accustomed to the respect and esteem he got from being the alpha of the biggest wolf pack. He remembered when they had made a formation, in their original wolf forms, and Kaitlyn's father had told him to take lead. It was his proudest moment.
He raked his hand through his hair. He knew he couldn’t let it go, and Kaitlyn was right. He had been blinded. By a lot of things, he didn’t think of how valuable his position was, and how Kaitlyn was the only reason, his only key to it. He sighed and slumped on the floor.
He had to think fast or whoever Kaitlyn was seeing,
would take everything he'd worked so hard for,
and one mistake had destroyed.
Chapter 3
She peered into the mirror, checking her neck. The bruise was very clear and evidently, since it was so different from her skin tone. She sighed and pulled the band off her hair, and it fell in silky waves onto her shoulders and back.
She heard a knock on her door, and turned just as the door opened, and her father, opened the door and ushered himself in. She stood up from the dresser stool she had been sitting on, and arranged her hair so the hickey would be covered.
