I knew it was pointless to yell out to him that I was coming, he would still have to wait for me since I wasn't done dressing anyway. Hence, I hastened to get dressed to meet him at the door.
I hurried to grab my black heel from the shoe rack and quickly slipped the pair on. I rushed to stand in front of the mirror once again to check myself one last time.
" Perfect!" I flashed a smile, satisfied of my appearance. Realizing that I had kept Michael waiting outside all these while, I quickly grabbed my clutch handbag from where I hung it and rushed out the room in a quick dash.
When my gaze fell on the front door to my apartment, I couldn’t help but grow anxious. My heart tightened and drummed in a loud thrum and I became a little hesitant.
Behind the piece of wood was the man I have found myself crazy in love with, and he was taking me to go see his family tonight. I was nervous... However, I couldn't let myself be held back by this.
I forced myself to move forward, step by step... until I was standing right behind the door. It was the only thing standing between I and Michael right now.
I reached my hand to grab the door handle, looking to open the door. A brief moment of hesitation struck my heart once again, but I managed to convince myself that it was too late to back out now. Besides, I was too excited to have doubts. I had to see this through.
Kltch!
With such conviction in my heart, I opened the door and there I met sight of him. The man who had conquered my heart. The one who reined in my thoughts for the past few weeks.
He stood at an average height with a strong jawline, outlined facial features, and piercing blue eyes that seemed to light up under the dim light of dusk. His stout and athletic build exuded confidence. He was dressed in a crisp white shirt, neatly tucked into dark jeans, and wore a stylish denim jacket. His fashion sense was effortlessly cool.
I couldn't help but be reminded of the first time we met. It seemed just like yesterday when I had accidentally spilled coffee on his table while at work.
A short breeze blew past, blowing his short dark brown hair into a fluff. He reached his finger to take his hair and flashed a bright smile when he noticed my presence. I felt the shackles of doubt that surrounded my heart break loose.
Badump! My heart skipped a beat.
From the burn on my cheeks, I could tell they had grown rosy. But I couldn’t take my gaze off of him. I couldn't help but wonder how I came across such a hottie. What did I ever do to deserve him?
“ You look… stunning” he said looking me up and down with the bright grin still plastered on his handsome face. I could tell he was speechless for a moment when he saw me appear.
My heart beat like crazy as I didn’t know what to do nor say at the moment. I could feel the corners of my lips curling upwards involuntarily, there was nothing I could do about it. In fact, I loved this feeling. I’ve never felt this sweet in my heart, it was…intoxicating. I wanted more…
“ You too” without much thought to give, I spoke from my subconscious. I was too worried about the sweetness in my frantically beating heart to even think of what and whatnot to say.
“ Well, Thanks! Hehe!” he chuckled and then stepped towards me to offer me a hand. “Let’s go” He urged in a deep magnetic tone that flushed all the doubt in my heart.
I locked eyes with him seriously and gave him and affirmative nod before extending my hand to take his. He smiled and led me to his car.
It was a pick-up painted in a fading shade of midnight blue. It had a sturdy build with a touch of vintage charmb and its wide tires gave it a rugged and adventurous look, perfectly matching Michael's adventurous and wistful spirit.
Michael owned the truck. He had taken me around with it many times, so I was certain of this. Besides, he told me it was from his father. Not that I doubted any of his words. Afterall, Michael had never lied to me.
He might not be doing too well financially, but he was honest. And I was totally fine with that.
" After you, my lady..." His charming voice brought me out of my thought and I couldn't help but feel the soft flutter surge inside me once again, seeing him standing there pulling the door to the front seat for me.
" Thank you" I muttered shyly and quickly hopped in.
He chuckled, shut the door after me, and went around the car to hop in the car as well. He was driving, afterall, only he knew the way to our destination.
Thud!
Once he shut the door, he said while inserting the key to the truck," You know, for a second I thought you changed your mind?"
I was stunned for a moment as to what to say, I had truly kept him waiting and that was bound to raise suspicion.
" Well, I certainly had my doubts. I wasn't sure what they'd think of me?" I decided to be sincere with how I felt.
There was a slight pause on his side in response to my statement and I couldn't help but look towards him, finding him staring at me with a wry smile.
With a shake of his head, he said shortly after, " I understand. But really, I'm even more worried about you approving of them. Hehe!" He chuckled.
" What do you mean by that?" I expressed surprise as I asked. I was shocked to find out that just as I had my worries, Michael also had his. This meant he was just as nervous and concerned?
" Haha! You'll see." He said and kick-started the car. " Ready?" He asked one last time and I nodded slowly, still caught up with his words from before. However, I decided not to press any further.
" Then all that's left is..." He reached towards the stereo and put on the radio. " Now we're set to go!" He cheered while giving me a wink that I couldn't help but burst into a smile at as he snapped his finger and sang along the lyrics of the song that was on air.
" Haha!" We both burst into laughter soon enough and before long, we were already on our way to his family's, humming and nodding to the song on the radio while the air blasted at us... blowing away my heart-restraints as we drove on along.
