School ends uneventfully. Kai sits alone in his studio apartment on the end of the bed, staring at the blank TV. He knows he should go train, but he hasn’t managed to come to terms with the fact that he is only able to train with humans now. He is a bit scared to actually test the extent of how little strength he actually has now. He doesn’t want to know how pathetic he really is.
In his free time since getting his wolf he would shift and run, but now…..
He sighs and throws himself back on to the mattress, staring at the ceiling.
The next morning, a car pulls up at the school, out steps Declan, Maddox, Xander and Ember. Declan wraps an arm around Ember’s shoulders as he leads them into the school.
A big group of girls catches Ember’s eye. They are not from this school. She listens out and finally learns what they are doing here.
Kai stands in the middle of a large group of girls. These ones seem even more aggressive than the ones yesterday. He is exacerbated. What is wrong with these id*ots? Are they not embarrassed of their aggressive techniques?
He wishes again that he had his wolf so they would actually listen when he tells them to back off. What he would give to be able to do an alpha command right now, or a good snarl would do the trick, maybe a throaty growl, anything, instead he is stuck ignoring them as they don’t seem to understand that he is not interested. After the unheard words he decides to just save his breath.
So, his death is going to be from over excited women? What a pathetic way to go out.
Ember looks at Declan and her brothers.
"Girls seriously travelled from the surrounding schools just to look at Kai?"
Declan’s hand moves down to her waist, his fingers grabbing a small piece of skin and twisting it in a playful manner to express his dissatisfaction at her words.
"Kai? Why does it sound like you are so close?"
Ember laughs coldly at his jealous thoughts considering that their relationship is already crashing and burning around them. It is not like she said that she thought he was so handsome that she feels like licking his face and then dropping to her knees and thanking the moon goddess for allowing her to lay eyes on such perfection once in her life.
"Because I said his name? Am I meant to call him ‘most handsome man in the whole world’ like the others?"
"Is that what you think Ember? Don't forget I am standing right here"
Ember resists the urge to punch him. Jealousy is not a good look on Declan at all. Kai’s looks make Declan, who she always thought was good looking, look as plain as a concrete footpath. She flicks her caramel coloured hair over her shoulder and Declan pulls her closer as a punishment and bites the skin of her neck. Ember digs an elbow into his ribs in annoyance at his childish antics.
She tries to move away but Declan does not allow it. While she could exert some strength and do it, it isn’t a good look to actually fight him off, they are technically still a couple. So she just has to grin and bear it.
Ember looks on at the girls piling around Kai, slightly smiling smugly. She should really go rescue him, but it is slightly amusing. Anyway, it serves him right for being that good looking, it is a crime to be so handsome and this is his punishment.
She can only imagine the repercussions of such a move anyway. It would make Kai think she is interested, it would make the boys annoyed, it would make the girls hate her even more and the rumour mill would go into melt down.
Declan stands at her side holding her shoulder tightly as he looks over the crowd with narrowed eyes. He moves forward quickly, taking Ember with him.
Ember is caught off guard and slightly stumbles as Declan keeps moving forward quickly without looking back, his arm coming off Ember’s shoulder, but the button on the sleeve of his shirt gets caught in her hair as he starts to pull. Ember yells and pulls back but he pays no mind, just keeping all his attention on moving forward at a fast pace, Ember gets bumped from the side and actually stumbles and falls, as she is already in the half bent over position with her hair getting dragged. Declan does not even notice her at all as he keeps moving forward faster and faster. Ember is struggling to gain traction on the ground as she gets dragged along the rough surface, her skin is tearing and then repairing repeatedly. She is trying hard to get up, half her scalp feels like it is tearing off, she is screaming and yelling, but he still doesn't listen to her at all, too focused on his destination, until finally he stops moving suddenly.
"Mine"
Declan stands in front of a beautiful blonde girl with blue eyes. She looks up at him expectantly and excitedly. He looks down at her with a large smile on his face, not caring at all about Ember who is half dragged out on the ground just beside him.
Ember looks up at the sight, she is humiliated beyond belief, she just got dragged in front of everyone.
While she has been expecting him to find his mate, she wasn't expecting to get brought in like this, completely rejected to the point of embarrassment.
For him to completely disregard her feelings and her safety in such a way. She tries to remove her hair from the button, but the more she moves the more tangled it gets, her fingers won't stop shaking because she is so embarrassed.
The more she tries to get free, the harder she gets trapped.
Her fingers shake and she can’t even tear it hard enough to remove the button, it is like all her strength has been sapped in that final show that she really means nothing within the pack anymore, she is really nothing. Not a single person moves forward to help her.
There is just so much hair and it's caught so high on her head, even so if she had scissors at this moment she would just cut a large chunk of her hair just so she could escape.
Her brothers are nowhere to be seen and Declan still hasn't even cast a single glance at her, completely oblivious to the extra weight on his sleeve or the chattering and laughing surrounding him, as he moves forward to kiss the girl in front of him, dragging Ember the extra step, pulling her into an even more awkward position.
Tears well in Ember’s eyes but she refuses to let them fall. Her proud wolf feels like it has been crushed and stepped all over, leaving her weak and vulnerable for the first time in her life, the crushing blow after crushing blow finally coming to head at this moment, she is ashamed and embarrassed, she can feel the eyes on her, yet she still can’t extricate herself from the situation, she can’t free herself, she can’t stand. She has never worried about what anyone says about her, but right now the words are feeding directly into her brain, making it buzz.
Her wolf is no where to be found in this moment of humiliation. Her wolf needs its pack and, because she feels so unloved and so abandoned, her wolf retreats to lick her wounds, leaving Ember to face this alone.
Kai is just about to test his human fighting abilities to get out of the crowd of women that are going crazy, it is like they are trying to remove his clothes, the feeling of their hands all over him is disgusting him more than he can believe.
He notices the next spectacle which is finally starting to take some attention away from him. He flicks his eyes over, he wants to ignore it and use this opportunity to escape until he catches sight of a mop of caramel coloured hair looking extremely disheveled, that it is actually Ember in the most humiliating position she has probably ever been in, in her entire life and he hopes that she is ever going to be in again in her life.
He moves forward quickly, squeezing through the crowd and grabbing Declan's cuff that he still doesn't even seem to notice anything happening, just completely immersed in kissing the blonde. Kai works quickly untwisting the caramel hair that is as soft as he has been imagining it would be.
He removes it quickly and pulls Ember up from the ground, wrapping his arms around her waist as he disappears swiftly with her pressed tightly against his chest in his strong and safe embrace.
As he doesn't know the area at all, he can only go to where he knows, so they end up back in the library once again.
It is as good place as any. No one else is in there at this time of day, so they have the peaceful place to themselves. Ember only finally comes back to her senses when she sits down on the ground and notices the gorgeous set of copper eyes staring at her. The walk was a blur to her. All she knew was that she trusted the warm embrace, she couldn’t even work out who it was. All she knew was that she felt safe, which was odd because she rarely has that feeling. Since she has had her wolf, she has been increasingly isolated and has only been able to start relying on herself, the people that were there for her before and pulling back so much that she feels very alone in the big bad world.
