Priscilla
Sapphire whines as I walk away from my mate. I hate to admit that I find him attractive. He has these blue eyes that remind me of the deep ocean. And his smile makes me melt.
‘We should go to him,’ Sapphire begs.
I ignore her and walk towards my room. I have changed clothes three times since Jack arrived. I tried blaming Sapphire for wanting to parade in front of him, but it was all me.
‘No kidding,’ She huffs.
I walk into my room and fall face-first on my bed. My heart is pounding from my lovesick wolf. ‘Sapph, seriously, calm down,’ I whine at her.
‘How can I be calm? We just met our mate,’ She pants.
“I don’t care,” I grumble out loud.
“You don’t care about what?” My mother asks suddenly.
I roll onto my back and groan, “Mom, you did not just barge into my room.”
She points at the open door, “I didn’t barge in.”
“Did you need something?” I ask.
“Your father wants you to come to dinner,” She states. “Something about the electrician.”
I groan again, “Tell him I’m not hungry.”
“We are having lasagna tonight. You love lasagna,” Mom argues.
“Fine,” I huff. “I’ll be there.”
“Dress nice,” She grins and pats my leg before walking out of the room.
Sapphire becomes almost unbearable as she paces in my head. Reluctantly, I roll out of bed and enter my massive closet. I look for something nice and decided to wear a pair of pink leggings and a grey sweater. I leave my hair down and keep my makeup minimal.
‘Jack is going to love that,’ Sapphire suggests. ‘His wolf’s name is Ajax.’
I walk out of the closet just as Cora is poking her head into my room, “What Cora?”
She trots in and claps her hand, “You found your mate?” She squeals.
“Oh god,” I whine. “How the hell do you know?”
“Kayla told me,” She laughs. “The electrician?”
I sigh and nod, “Yeah.”
“Kayla says that he is kind of hot,” Cora snorts.
“He’s alright. But he is nowhere near as hot as Jasper,” I shrug.
‘Jack is hotter than Jasper,’ Sapphire argues.
“Priscilla,” My mother’s voice rings out from outside my room. She walks by and looks in, “Oh, that’s a nice outfit.”
I roll my eyes at her.
“Come along, dear,” She gestures to me and smiles at Cora, “Hello, Cora.”
“Luna,” Cora nods.
“Oh, Cora, you know you can just call me Louise,” Mom waves her off with a laugh.
I follow Mom out of my room, and Caleb is there with Kayla and Oscar. My nephew is trotting next to my brother, waving a toy car around.
“Broom, broom,” Oscar blubbers as he waves the car around.
I smile at him, “It’s vroom vroom, Chubbs,” I poke his little arm.
“VROOM!” He squeals and takes off running.
Caleb huffs, “Oscar,” He calls after his son before trotting after the pup.
“Thanks for riling him up,” Kayla grumbles.
“That’s for blabbing to everyone about my mate,” I sneer at my brother’s mate
“I only told Cora,” Kayla looks at my friend. “Right?”
“As far as I know,” Cora shrugs.
“Did you tell anyone else?” I ask Cora.
“No,” She shakes her head.
Caleb returns with a crying Oscar on his hip.
I smile at my nephew, “Did Daddy catch you, Chubbs?”
Oscar sniffles.
“Where is your car?” I ask and look around. I see the discarded toy across the hall and walk over to pick it up. “Chubbs, look what Auntie Prissy found for you?” I grin as I give the car back to Oscar.
His little face brightens as he takes the car, “Vroom,” He sputters.
“That’s my Chubbs,” I grin.
Caleb shakes his head, “My son sure loves his Auntie.”
“Why wouldn’t he?” I laugh as we reach the elevator.
We all get downstairs, and Daddy is waiting in the corridor with Jack and his assistant. Jack smiles warmly at me. He is still wearing his dirty jeans and worn-out work shirt. But he has his hair slicked back, and I hate to admit how hot he looks.
‘See, he is so hotter than Jasper,’ Sapphire huffs.
I ignore her and stop a few feet from Jack.
“You look beautiful,” Jack says to me, and I feel the warmth of his statement.
“Thanks,” I mumble and move away from him. I hear him whimper and glance back. He is looking down the corridor.
“Okay, everyone,” Dad claps. “Let’s go in,” He declares and takes my mother’s arm. I walk behind my parents as they lead everyone into the dining hall. The hall is huge enough to fit most of the pack. There are several long tables down the center of the room while our table sits on a raised area above the pack.
Cora walks over to her parents, seated at a table below ours. She grins at me as she sits next to her brother.
“Sit there, Jack,” Dad points to a chair beside mine.
I groan internally as Jack takes the seat.
“Your Gamma can sit there,” Dad points to another chair. “You are both VIPs tonight.”
I stand beside Jack, and his scent is driving my wolf mad. Dad claps his hands as he stands in front of his chair. The pack quiets down and turns their attention to him.
“Good evening, Diamond Lake,” He announces. “I am pleased to announce that my daughter Priscilla has finally found her fated mate,” He starts to say.
“Dad,” I try to yell through gritted teeth.
Jack shifts uncomfortably next to me. He is eyeing me as my father begins to speak again.
“Priscilla’s mate is the son of a dear friend who perished many years ago,” Dad grins at Jack. “Jack Watson,” He points, and the pack claps while I stare at the ceiling. “Okay, let’s eat.” My parents sit down, and the omegas begin to serve dinner.
A steaming plate of lasagna with a huge hunk of bread is set in front of me. I hear Jack saying something to his gamma.
“This looks like it cost more than my car.”
“It’s probably made with Wagyu beef,” Jack says to his gamma.
“It is made with imported Kobe,” Dad answers Jack. “You are familiar with wagyu?”
“We farm and looked into raising wagyu at one time,” Jack responds.
“So, what do you farm?” Dad asks him.
I tune my father and Jack out as they talk about cows. I pull out my phone and text Jasper, but he isn’t answering. “Come on, Jasper,” I mumble.
“Who are you texting?” Mom leans over to me. “You aren’t texting that, Jasper, are you?”
“So, what if I am?” I grumble.
“Your mate is sitting right next to you, Priscilla,” Mom glances at Jack, who stops talking to my father.
“What’s going on?” Dad’s voice booms.
“Nothing,” I whine and put my phone down.
“Anyways, I can’t be happier that my daughter is mated to the son of my friend,” Dad grins at me
I say nothing and pick at my food. Lasagna is my favorite food, but I don’t feel like eating right now. My mind is a battlefield. I want to deny Jack, but Sapphire and my heart aren’t letting me.
“Can you pass the salt?” Jack asks me.
I pick up the shaker, and our hands touch, causing tingles to spread through my body. I find myself momentarily caught up in his eyes. He smiles shyly and takes the salt shaker. “It’s crystal, so be careful,” I say to him.
Jack smiles, “I’ll try.”
I turn away from him and pick up my wine glass, “Wine!” I yell for the omegas. One of them shows up with a bottle. “Don’t you have something better?” I growl.
“This is what the Luna asked for, Miss,” The omega answers.
“Fine,” I wave the glass at him. “Fill it up,” I sneer.
The omega pours my wine and scurries away.
I down half the glass in seconds.
“Go easy on the wine, Priscilla,” Mom says.
I ignore her and down the rest, “Wine!” I yell for more.
I glance at Jack, and he is silently watching me with a slight grin on his face.
“So, you like wine?” He asks awkwardly.
“Only the good stuff,” I shrug. “Do you even know what good wine is?”
“Doesn’t your uncle have a winery, Jack?” Dad interjects.
“Not anymore, Ed,” Jack responds. “He sold it shortly before he stepped down as alpha.”
“Oh, that’s too bad. Your father had brewery years ago too.”
“My Mom told me about it,” Jack frowns slightly.
“You should look into getting into brewing. I bet you have Larry’s touch,” Dad grins at my mate.
“I am not much into beer drinking,” Jack responds. “Though Ray has suggested it.”
“Ray? Isn’t he Connor’s son?” Dad asks.
“Yes,” Jack responds.
They continue chatting, and I tune them out as I nibble at my food. I finally have enough and push my plate away.
“Aren’t you going to eat more than that?” Mom asks.
I shake my head, “I’m going upstairs,” I stand up, and a hand grabs my arm. Jack looks up at me.
“Can we talk?” He asks.
I pull my arm from him and start to answer, “Of course she will,” My father interrupts. “Priscila?”
I huff and push past the table and march out of the hall, with Jack following me. His scent is almost too much as we leave. I stop down the hall and look him up and down. “Look, Jack,” I start to say.
“I know I am not what you were hoping for in a mate,” Jack starts to say.
“You aren’t anything I am looking for,” I fold my arms. Jack’s face falls, and he takes a deep breath. “I don’t want some electrician for a mate.”
‘He is an alpha,’ Sapphire yells at me.
Jack looks at the ground, “I understand.”
“I have needs that I doubt you can fill,” I continue to explain. “So, I have to do this.”
Jack takes another deep breath, “Do what you have to,” He says sadly.
“I, Priscilla Graciela Livingston, reject-“
“PRISCILLA!” My father’s voice booms behind me. He marches up to us, “You will not reject Jack.”
“DAD!” I scream back at him.
My father glares at me, “You will not reject Jack.”
“Dad, that isn’t your-“
“Priscilla!” Dad snarls. “You will not reject him. In fact, you will be going home with him tomorrow after he finishes the project.”
I glance at Jack, who is staring silently at my father.
“Sir,” Jack says softly. “I won’t force Priscilla to choose me.”
“You youngsters need to learn the value of your mate,” Dad explains and glances at my mother, who is approaching us. “Without your true mate, a werewolf only feels half alive,” He clasps Mom’s hand.
“Dad, he’s poor,” I whine.
“He is not poor, Priscilla. It’s time you learned how life truly works. You also need to learn that money isn’t everything,” Dad looks at me. “You will go with Jack Watson, and that is final.” He grins at Jack.
“DAD!” I yell.
“I must go home now,” Jack mutters to my Dad. He looks at me. “Goodnight, Priscilla.”
I sneer and look away from him. Tingles shoot up my arm as Jack lightly touches my hand. His scent also lingers as he walks down the hall with my father and brother. I look at my mother, “Mom, do I really have to go with Jack?”
“Your father is adamant that you go,” Mom responds.
“But Mom,” I whine again. “He’s so-“
“Priscilla, it will be okay,” Mom touches my hair. “Let’s go help you pack.”
“Mom,” I yell. “I want to be with Jasper. He has a bigger house than ours, and I want a Ferrari. Jack can’t buy me a Ferarri,” I explain to her.
“Oh, dear, Ferraris aren’t everything. Besides, I don’t think your father would let you be with Jasper,” Mom clasps my hand.
“Why?” I ask.
“Don’t worry about it,” She replies and pulls me towards the elevator.
Sapphire is in my head doing somersaults while I am sulking. I get to my room and fall on my bed again while my mother walks into my closet. My phone buzzes, and I am happy to see Jasper has replied to my messages. I message him back without telling him about Jack.
-Can you come and get me tomorrow?- I text Jasper.
-I don’t know about that, Priscilla- He responds.
-Why?-
-I’ll see what I can do- Jasper responds.
“Priscilla?” Mom pokes her head out of the closet. “I need you to come help me pack your things.”
“Mom, that’s what we have omegas for,” I huff while texting Jasper.
‘He isn’t our mate,’ Sapphire growls. ‘I will not accept any man who is not our mate.’
‘Shut up,’ I shout at her. ‘You will accept anyone I say to accept.’
Sapphire retreats to her corner and goes silent.
“Priscilla?” Mom yells again.
“Mom,” I yell back. “The omegas can pack my shit.”
“Priscilla,” Mom stomps her foot. “You always get mad when they pack your bags. Also, don’t cuss.”
I whine and roll off my bed. I slink into the closet and throw a few things into one of my many suitcases. “There,” I zip it up.
“Oh, honey, you will need more than that,” Mom laughs.
“I am not staying with Jack,” I tell her. “Just long enough to get Daddy off my back. Then I am going with Jasper.”
“Priscilla,” Mom runs her hand through my hair. “Your father is right, though. You don’t want to disregard your true mate. Jack is a nice man.”
“But he’s poor,” I huff.
“I know,” Mom sighs. “Look, try it for a month. If you don’t want to stay with Jack after a month, I will talk to your father about you going with Jasper.”
I sigh, “fine.” I opened my suitcase and threw some more things into it. I pack another one, “I’m done.”
Mom hugs me, “That’s my girl.” She kisses my cheek. “Your father needs me,” She says.
“For what?” I ask her, and she smirks, “Ew,” I shake my head.
“Even old people have needs, dear,” She pats my arm, “Goodnight.”
After my mother leaves, I go into my bathroom to shower and get ready for bed. Sapphire has crawled out of her hole and is prancing in my head. She is excited to be going with Jack, but I am not.
I am lying in bed, still texting Jasper while my mind wanders to Jack. ‘Sapphire?’
‘I’m not doing anything,’ She responds with a snicker.
I tell Jasper goodnight and set my phone down. I close my eyes, quickly fall asleep, and dream all night about Jack and his wolf Ajax.
