Chapter 4 Meeting Her New Teacher

1313 Words
Song Ji sat pensively on the chair, his eyes fixed on the entrance, awaiting the arrival of his beloved sister. The long months in the army had only intensified his longing for her. Every solitary moment had been filled with thoughts of her, wondering how she fared at home. Nearly two years have passed since their last reunion. Just as nostalgia began to overwhelm him, a soft voice called out from behind. Song Ji's heart skipped a beat as he swiftly turned around. His eyes locked onto a familiar figure walking toward him, a radiant smile illuminating her face. "Sister!" Song Ji exclaimed, his voice trembling with emotion. Song Ji rose from the chair, his strides eager as he closed the distance between them. He enveloped his sister in a warm hug, but Song Jae's rigidity betrayed her surprise. Realizing his mistake, Song Ji quickly released her, chuckling. "Sorry, I've missed you terribly." He understood the societal norms governing their aristocratic circle, where excessive displays of sibling affection could fuel gossip. "I apologize if I made you uncomfortable, sister," he said, his tone measured. "I know we must maintain a certain restraint." Song Jae's expression softened, she knew this brother's of her's might have misunderstood her. she just felt awkward being so close to him, after all she wasn't his really sister. "Sister, how have you been?" he asked, his eyes scanning her face. Song Jae's unease momentarily gave way to delight as she took in her brother's youthful appearance. Yet, anxiety lingered, fearing discovery and struggling of him finding out the truth about her identity her emotions were literally everywhere. "I've been well, brother," she replied, her voice measured. In her previous life although her father and mother loved her, but they were also too busy, to spend time with her, she always dreamed of having an elder, or little brother who she could spend time with. But she never had brother, she only got an ungrateful twin sister, who stole her boyfriend and killed her. Brother of course I have grown taller, it has been close to two years since we last met. brother let's sit down first, we have a lot of things to talk about, Song Jae thought after all she needed to distract her brother, and make up a good story for her sudden change. After all even a fool could notice that she has changed a lot. Sitting down, Song Jae told her brother the made up story she came up with, so you're saying when you got hit by the horse carriage, on the day of the festival you lost some of your memory? And can't really remember much? yes but I don't want father to know about it, so can this be our little secret. And why don't you want father to know about it? after all it wasn't your fault that you got hit by that stupid childe horse, I don't want Song Nabi and Song Nari to rob it in my face. So please promise me not to tell father or anyone , alright I promise you. "But won't they eventually discover the truth?" Song Ji asked, concerned etched in his voice. "Don't worry, Song Jae replied with a confident smile. "I'll be too busy for them to have the chance to bother me." Song Ji's curiosity piqued. "How will you manage that? You don't usually attend etiquette classes with our sisters, do you?" Well I mentioned to father earlier today, that I want to learn etiquette like the rest of my sister's. guess how father reacted when I told him, let me guess he was very shocked and face was filled with smile and happiness. After all he doesn't want you to embarrass him in public. Brother don't judge father like that, although it was because of father that mother died, but he wasn't the one that killed her, he just didn't love her and father didn't really mistreat us. The reason why Song Jae chose to support the host father, who she disdain, was because when she read the story, she knew he was a father who loved all his children, and was ready to sacrifice for them. In the story, Song Jae once offended the Crown Prince, who sought to have her executed. Given the Crown Prince's notorious disdain for women, the situation was dire. Desperate to save his daughter, the original host father knelt before the palace for nearly two days, imploring the Emperor to intervene and persuade the Crown Prince to spare her life. Moved by his pleas, the Emperor intervened, but at a cost: Prime Minister Song was suspended from attending court for a month. so she knew, that although Song Myun was strict but he loved all his children, the only problem was that, he wasn't the type of person that knew how to express it , seeing the way Song Jae supported their father, Song Ji decided to push the matter aside for now. "Are you free tomorrow night?" Song Ji asked. "Yes I doubt the teacher will require my presence that late, Song Jae replied. "Where are we going to brother?" Song Ji's eyes sparkled mischievously, which was very rare to see. "Sister just get ready for a surprise. That's all I'll say." Song Jae jumped up, saluting and shouting "Yes, sir!" with military precision. Song Ji's usually stoic face cracked, and a deep laugh escaped his throat at his sister's antics. Song Ji rose from his chair, uncertain whether to be thankful, Ever since the carriage accident, Song Jae's demeanor had transformed. She was no longer arrogant, spoiled, or aloof. The incident had brought him and her closer together, forging an unexpected bond. Her once haughty nature had given way to warmth and genuine affection. "I'll take my leave then," he said, bidding farewell. Song Jae jumped up. "Brother, let me walk you to the door." Song Ji smiled wryly. "If you insist. It seems my sister doesn't want me to go." Song Jae pouted, feigning a spoiled child's tone. "Of course, I'll miss you, Brother." As Song Jae escorted her brother to the door, she couldn't help but feel grateful for her second chance in this new life. Though revenge against the cheating couple eluded her, fate had blessed her with a loving family. Her father's strict yet caring guidance, her elder brother's kindness, and her little brother's adorable presence filled her heart with joy, even though Song Geon, was her step-brother from a different mother, he had proven to be protective and caring. Lost in thought, Song Sena reverie was interrupted by a soft voice. "Miss, Miss?" Song Sena called out. Song Jae snapped back to reality. "Yes, what is it?" "The new teacher has arrived," Song Sena announced. "She wishes to see you." Song Jae prepared herself, gathering her books and ink. Accompanied by her maidservant, she arrived at Snow Country Yard. Upon entering the house, she encountered her half-sisters: two born to Concubine Jin, which was the new madam, and her twin sisters born to another concubine. All her sisters were already paying respect to her new teacher. Finally Song Jae got a good look at the woman. Despite being in her mid-forties, Madam Jung's beauty was striking. Approaching her, Song Jae curtsied. "Greetings, Madam." Madam Jung smiled warmly. "No need for formalities, child. I was a close friend of your mother's. You may call me Madam Jung." "I was told you haven't received basic etiquette training, Song Jae," Madam Jung said gently. "No worries, we'll start from scratch. I'll ensure you understand each step." "Thank you, Madam," Song Jae replied gratefully. She recognized Madam Jung's patience stemmed from her connection to her mother. Determined not to disappoint, Song Jae remained humble. As the lesson began, her siblings departed for their own classes, eager to avoid their teachers' reprimands.
