Chapter one: meeting 

Third person POV 

Carol walks through the streets of Cordoba a city she has been living for the past three months here in Spain. And in this time, she has learned a little of Spanish although still needs more studying or practice, she still remembers the day she arrived after spending a week in Madrid.  

       Memory of three weeks ago 

She was looking for an address distracted she didn’t see where she was walking until she bumps into someone. The girl in front of her was caring dirty water she was to throw out side, the water has now been thrown on her by a total stranger Carol. The girl taller than Carol turn angry at her, holding her now wet shirt from her skin. “que coño estás haciendo!?” (what the hell are you doing!?) Carol was now scared of this lady, she was too angry and keeps yelling at her in Spanish, how can she explain it was an accident. Carol in her nervous voice speak “YO! Mmm" (I mmm) she is thinking making signs with her hands trying to find the words. “buusscoo, ah lo de” she gives up, the girl in front of her starts laughing, “I know inglish a little” Carol smile, “I am so sorry I was looking for this address do you perhaps could help me with this?” The extended her hand at her “my name is Valentina, I will help you.” 

              End of memory 

Ever since that day they became friends and even roommates, Carol learn that Valentina is just a girl who speaks loud at times but she is really never angry. At this moment she sits in a coffee place drinking tea, she loves this city, but what she loves the most is the serenity that she gets being away from all the trouble and drama back home. She now understands why Alondra tried getting out of that house years ago.  

A voice suddenly brings her from her thoughts, “esta usando el boligrafo?” (are you using the pen) not understanding she looks around the table and finds the pen. Remembering the name she picks it and giving it to the guy that is wearing a uniform from the Caffe. He smiles as he takes it and walks back to the counter, she gets her purse and walks out. While he stares at her leaving, he has seen her for the past three days and never has he dare himself to ask for her name. 

            In Italy 

Michael has been called for a meeting with Adriano, Alberto, Luke and his father, when he comes in the office, he notices the silence in the room. He takes his seat next to Adriano who smiles at him in a way that makes Michael feel uncomfortable. His smile is one as if apologizing from something but he can’t figure out as to what he could be apologetic for. A folder is pass around the table to everyone, Michael opens it looking at a file it seems id from a capo in Mexico. 

Adriano starts explaining who the guy is, apparently is a very well know capo and very high in the business. He has two children a daughter the age of Michael, and a son two years younger than Michael, the names of them are unknown they go by nicknames. ‘What kind of nicknames are this?’ Michael thinks while reading the names again, pato (duck) and Boni.  

“We need to make an alliance with Jose the capo, and in order to do that he has asked for one of our people in high position to marry one of his children. He was thinking in Adriano or Alondra but they are married now, and Landon is still too young for this.” Alberto says, then Michael father, Jackson speaks, “son we need you to do this.” Michael couldn’t believe his ears, “are you all crazy?” he asked as he stand on his feet. “It seems in Mexico people marry into alliances or even into the business, it the only way for them to have guaranties of a save future.” this time it was Adriano who spoke leaving Michael even more shocked, his best friend who he loves as a brother was in on it, now it's his chose. He has to choose whether to save the family he so much loves with the business or betray them but not accepting. Michael has a lot to think about and he can’t do it here sitting in the office with all eyes on him.
