Chapter eight: regrets 

Third person POV 

“You did what? Are you insane, how could you give away that amount of money?” The last thing Michael wanted was to raise his voice on Carol but he was angry and upset. He just doesn’t understand how she could give away money so easily to a guy she just met. “Is not like he is a stranger I told you I went on a date with him, he lost his job. As soon as he gets one he will pay me back, he just has a lot of things going on. Plus is not like he asked for it I offer to borrow him some money,” Michael pulls at his hear feeling frustrated with this situation. “Is the same thing, he told you how he needed the money for you to offer him some, he is not i***t. Now he is just going to ask for more don’t you see what is going on?” “I know you don’t understand but trust me, he is a good guy his girlfriend left him a while ago takin his daughter with her now she asks for money he has a lot to deal with really.” the story was not sad at all, it actually just made his point, he is playing the victim her or at least that how Michael sees it. 

Boni just stare at the pair arguing, he knew they were like brother and sister he just didn’t know Michael worried about her this much. It kind of made him jealous, but he tries to put that aside as he keeps watching them argue. Nothing makes sense to him if they are a Family with loads of money why does it affect Michael such a small amount of money. It's not such a small amount is just the way Boni sees it as he knows they have a lot more than that.  

“I am not stupid okay, I am old enough to know what I am doing, I am not going to let you come into my apartment and talk to me like this about a guy you haven’t met. You are not my older brother not even my brother at all, all you do is as told, then go Michael be a good husband and leave me alone.” Carol was angry but she didn’t mean what she said, she just wanted some air from this discussion, Michael nod at her. He knows he was being too much but he can’t help but worry about her, and he doesn’t do as told, he doesn’t follow orders like a solder no. He does things to help the family, he is always thinking of the wellbeing of everyone else even if this puts him in situations like this one. Like that time when Adriano needed him he went with him to United Kingdom, even cover him when he kidnapped Kelsey. He didn’t do it because he was told, but because he knew he would get in a lot of trouble he just wanted to be there and help. Then again now, he is married to a guy when he likes girls, just to say the ones he loves form a war that can bring death to all or most of them. 

Michael sighs, walks to her with both of his hands he holds her head bringing her to him, plating a kiss in her forehead. As he slowly removes his lips he whispers, “just be careful, I am always here is you need me.” Before Carol could say anything, he walked out the door, Boni following behind his head down eyes in the floor. Carol was left alone in the living room of the apartment, “I am sorry I didn’t mean to,” she whispers to herself not able to even finish the sentence. She knows he is a good older brother and he loves her, she knows he is a good person with a big heart. He always puts everyone else's happiness before him, and now because she was angry, she said things to him she truly regrets. 

After about an hour, there is a knock on the door, by the time Carol can tell is not Valentina she is working till late today. She walks to the door and when opens it she is surprise to see Leonel at the door, but she smiles because is good to see him. “Leo hi, come on in” he kisses her cheek and walks in following her to the living area. He takes a seat and so does she, “so tell me how has it being since we last talk? Did you find a job?” She sounds excited because she is, she is hoping that he is doing better with a new job and all. He then shakes his head in a no, “no actually no one is hiring a waitress, to be honest that is all I know how to do serve people, I don’t know what am going to do. I so wanted to have something soon I guess it is going to take me a while to get my life back on track. I feel so embarrass because of the money to lend me.” Carol smile thinking back of the conversation she had with Michael, Leonel is not a bad guy he truly wants to pay her, at least that what she thinks. She shakes her thoughts away focusing on Leonel again, “don’t you worry about that, I have no timeline for that money, I have enough.” He smiles happy she just said that because he is planning on not paying her back at least not so soon. “I will pay you back though as soon as I get a job, I so want to take you on another date but we’ll have to wait till I find a job.”  “Why? We can go on a date is no problem,” she really likes him, she has been waiting for him to ask her out again. “No I have no money I would like to take you out on a romantic dinner or something.”  

Carol been her, forgot everything she talked or argue with Michael earlier, “but I can pay, just this time, next time will be on you.” “Are you sure about this I don’t” before he could finish, she stood up “of course now let's go.” She took his hand heading out the apartment she didn’t even change to something more elegant or sexy or whatever girls change into when going to dates. She has always been a simple girl, she is wearing black jeggings, a purple shirt, black and white converse. While he is wearing black t shirt, blue wash jean, and black nikes. They both head to a nice burger restaurant, she loves junk food as well, taking a seat near the window. 

When Michael left Carol apartment he went back to the hotel where he had a double room for him and Boni. Boni was quiet the whole walk to the hotel, yes walk because Michael wanted to be close to Carol so they will be staying near her apartment. Boni was hungry but he opted for siting in the sofa between their beds to watch some television although he was not paying attention. He could see how worry Michael was and It worries him. But been the good husband he wants to be he stayed quiet and out of the way to let him cool down. After a while Michael realize they hadn’t eat anything so he asked Boni “are you hungry?” Boni nods but stay quiet making Michael sigh now he thinks he may be a bad guy because Boni is not talking to him. He goes and takes the seat next to Boni “are you alright?” he asks because that is just the way he is, he doesn’t like to make others feel bad. “Yes I am fine can we go look for a place to eat?” Michael smiles at him and nods, both of them walk out the hotel room, walking out Michael asks “what would you like to eat?” Boni doesn’t even have to think before he answers “anything as long as is not burgers, I don’t like them” Michael nods again. Then walk down the street when Michael seems to know the girl walking inside the burger place. 

They walk to the burger place and Michael watches how Carol and a guy walk towards the table near the window. Michael is fine with Carol dating he just wants what is best for her and if this guy is Leonel then he is no good. He doesn’t want to see Carol hurt, last time she was hurt by Megan she ended up coming here to Spain. “Lets go in here, it looks like a nice place,” “but is a burger place” Michael turn to Boni raising an eyebrow at him “and?” Boni doesn’t say more they both walk in, he now thinks Michael doesn’t even care he hates burgers. When in reality Michael is thinking of Carol his little cousin or more like sister that he forgot Boni didn’t want to eat burgers. 

Carol eyes widen when she see Michael and Boni walking her way, Michael smiles as he greets her “hey cousin do you mind if we sit with you?” Carol shakes her head Michael a Boni seat as a waitress comes to them “what would you like to order?” Carol orders a cheeseburger with beacon and french fries with a lemonade, while Leonel orders a double cheese burger with onion rings and french fries with coke. Michael gets a double cheese burger with onion rings and barbecue sauce no fires and a sprite, they all turn to Boni who is still looking at the cart in the table. This place is different from all the places Boni has been to, the cart is stick to the round tables, all they sell are burgers not even nuggets. With a big sigh he orders, “I will take an order of french fries and fruit punch please.” Michael raises an eyebrow at him not understanding why he didn’t order a meal, but then let it pass as he turn back to Carol. “so are you going to introduce me?” Carol gulps hoping Michael wont say anything about the money because even though he is a good guy and sweet, he is straight forward that’s how Adriana and Alberto show them to be. In the line of business, they are in they have to be and they speak less doing it. “Yes, Leonel this is my cousin Michael and this is his..” “friend” Michael cut her, she furrows her eyebrows not knowing why he would lie. “Michael this is Leonel, we are dating,” Leonel feels awkward by her honesty is not bad is just too son to say it out loud at least to him. 

After they eat, Michael sees Carol about to pay so he pitches in, instead “ I will get it,” he then hands the money to the girl that served them giving her a generous tip as well. Something that didn’t go by Leonel he saw the amount this only made him think he is doing good with Carol. Leonel and Carol walk back to her apartment laughing and making jokes she missed this about Leonel. She doesn’t like the way he looks when is worry about something. 

Michael and Boni walk to their hotel, as they enter the room Boni’s stomach growl making him feel embarrass. Michael turn to him this time they are alone so he asks “why didn’t you eat a meal, see now you are hungry.” Michael is not one to get mad easily but this day wasn’t an easy one and now he has to add Boni to his problems. “I am sorry I just” he didn’t get to finish his sentence “ you know what I am not in a mood I will take a shower.” Is not like this is a real marriage or anything this is all fake, a fake marriage, fake relationship, they have to fake being in love when in Mexico around people. Again Boni doesn’t answer he stays quiet, while Michael showers he gets dressed in his pajamas. He walks to the sink because the bath area has its own door is like having two halves of a bathroom. He brushes his teeth and goes to his bed to sleep. When Michael gets out of the shower every light is turn off except for the lamp on the side of his bed. After Michael brushes his teeth he goes to bed as well, once he turns the light off to sleep something happens. He remembers Boni saying he doesn’t like burgers, Michael gulps feeling regret feel him. He totally forgot and not even that but he was mean to him when they got back to the hotel. He sits up and walks to Boni “Boni are you awake?” the boy doesn’t answer making Michael feel even worst he fell asleep while hungry and all because of him. If something was teach at home was that no one is to go to bed hungry, but he now did it to someone else.
