MY SWORN ENEMY, MY MATE

Mate

"P-Pardon?" Did I hear him clearly?! Me?! His mate?! No, no, no, no, this had got to be some kind of a joke. What happened to living a life away from these people?

He ignored me and turned to face my brother.

"Crimson, you know the truth, right? You also know how many have tried their luck with me and how they met their ending, right?"

Sky said to my brother. I wondered what they were talking about but since they did so in codes, I was not gonna bother them. If they wanted to let me in on whatever secret they had, I would leave it up to them to tell me. Jokes, I was always the curious type, and so I did what any curious person would do.

" Truth? What truth? Ending? What are you talking about?" They both ignored me. It was like I was air between them.

" Sky, listen to me, my sister would never do that. Right now, we need a solution so do not add more problems for us than we can handle. Let me investigate this matter first." My brother basically pleaded with that guy, are they friends or boss vs subordinate?

" Why should I give any special favors, Crimson?" Sky asked in a threatening tone.

" If you are gonna ignore me then just let me go! I have unfinished business to attend." I exclaimed bringing their attention to me, I immediately shrank back. Sky looked at me as though I was his little prey and the smirk he added at the end did not help at all.

"Stay put, Aria." My brother said sternly.

" Don't shout at my mate, Crimson," Sky responded on my behalf.

" Enough with calling me using my pack name." My brother said in a frustrated tone.

" Okay, Adrian. Don't talk to my mate like that." Sky said

" You are confusing you know," Adrian said shaking his head and Sky sent him a glare.

" Okay, got it. It won't happen again." My brother added.

I must say that glare made me unconsciously shiver and he noticed this slight slip-up because he ignored my brother's existence and leaned in closer to me. I froze with my eyes wide open to show how shocked I was. I did not know what to do in that situation.

" That is enough, Sky. Do not tease my sister like that and in front of me for that matter." Thank goodness, my brother came to my rescue.

Sky chuckled and said, " Alright. I will stop. She looked like a cornered prey." Which I was?!

" A whole different person than the one who slapped me." He added and I grimaced, He still remembers that.

" Hey! Your eyes are no longer golden." I said excited to have made that observation.

" She is right, you are not. No wonder, you could listen to reason a few minutes ago. What's strange though is how you came back without causing damage as usual." My brother said as he pondered on the last part.

" Can you let me go now, please? My back is getting a little numb." Lies, I wanted to create a safe distance so that I could run home.

He laughed then said, " You should be a little more truthful, little mate." What? How did he know? Can he read my mind?

Seeing my shocked face he said, " No, it was written all over your face."

" What was?" I feigned innocence. He looked around for the longest time and finally smiled when he heard the sound of water splashing from the waterfall. He then turned and gave me an evil smirk before saying to my brother, " Sorry about this Crimson."

He moved swiftly and lifted me of the ground and put me on his shoulder like some kid. It was so embarrassing and to make it worse my brother was right there.

" Put me down, right this instant!" I screamed as he started moving towards the waterfall.

" Little liars, need to be taught a lesson." He simply said. I screamed and kicked but he did not want to let me go. While struggling, I saw my brother's face and he seemed to be in deep thought about something so much that he was frowning. I wanted to ask him about it but then I had my hands full with that guy so I focused on my survival first.

We got to the bed of the waterfall and seeing the water splash down forcefully gave me anxiety.

" Please, put me down. I admit, it was a lie, I wanted to go home that's why I said that." I begged him, he feigned ignorance and made it seem like he was going to throw me in when suddenly my feet touched the ground and he said, "Go home."

I profusely thank him and made a run for it.

SKY's short POV

Flashback

Using the wolf connection, I communicated with Adrian.

"Adrian, I am going to test your sister. I will use any means necessary to break her and let her tell me the truth of who put her behind this" I said

" Are you going to stop me, Crimson?" Sky continued. He knew that it was a difficult thing to sit and watch while your own sister would be tortured, but he had to do it. He had his hopes up the first time a random 'she' wolf called him "mate". But that hope was soon crashed because she was an imposter. After a few more chancers who played his mate, he realized that the prophecy was real, his mate died even before she had the chance to see this world in her mother's womb and she was killed during the chaos created by the queen of witches of Pink Twilight. He lost all hope of ever finding his mate and even had a little grave made for her behind his house in the woods.

" Are you asking me as a friend or my alpha?" he asked. I hated it when he did this, all serious without a trace of emotion. I could never figure out what he was thinking when he got to be like this.

" Both." I responded. He knew it too, we grew up together, when he found his mate and I could never be with mine, he shared many drinks with me to cheer me up. He knew that, I could not handle one more fake one, I was tired.

"Alright." That's all he said then he closed the wolf link.

" Sorry about this, Crimson." I said outloud

End of flashback

We were the only ones standing there after Aria left.

" You already have a fiancée, why don't you let her go?" Adrian asked me.

" Are you getting cold feet." I joked

" Like any older brother would let you harm his younger sister." He shot back, he had a point.

" Tell me something Sky, What if you find that she is real? Will you live with yourself knowing how much you would have made her suffer?" he continued.

" That's the weight I'd have to bear. I just need to know the truth, that's all and I hope she will understand that." I said

After a long moment of silence, Adrian sighed then said, " Alright, just don't go too far."
