Chapter 10

Salazar's POV As the driver pulls out of the Clan driveway I turn to see the young she-wolf rush out the main door towards the other building. "Did you forget something alpha?" the driver asks but I shake my head and instruct him to continue back to Blue Moon territory. I lean back in my seat and recall the way Rosalie Royal stood her ground when it came to that runt. The last I saw him I remember the way his eyes burned with fury when I told him he wasn't worthy to run the pack. Nobody was going to look up to an alpha with no wolf. He was my oldest heir but not my only option. His mother was human. A woman I met and fell for before I met my fated mate. Her beauty radiated pure and whole and I had to make her mine. When she became pregnant with Orion I was ecstatic. But the boy was always quiet and kept to himself. His mother told me to leave him be, he will mature with time. I think back to that night I lost Elianna. I never marked her so she could not call out to me for help that night. Orion came running into my office, his clothes these and body covered in dirt and grime as tears flowed down his face. "Papa, m-mom...s-she..." his words stuttered out and I rose from my chair to walk around my desk. I knelt down infront of him and shook his body by the shoulders. "Spit it out boy! What happened?!" I spoke in my alpha voice but he only continued to cry and shake like a leaf. "Gregory!" I called for the house attendant and he appeared in the office in a few seconds. He glanced at Orion and then bowed to me. "Yes sir" "Take the boy up to his room. I'm heading out" I commanded and stood up while giving the blubbering fool a quick shove towards Gregory. He stumbles a bit and then turns his tear streaked face back to me. "The r-rogues...Moon C-crest P-peak. S-she f-fell over..." he started bawling again and Gregory took him quickly out the room as I linked my beta to meet me at Moon Crest ridge. I remember Eliana took Orion there often to see the stars. It was one of their things they did together. But they always took warriors with them for safety. Why didn't they this time?! My beta Davis met me at the location. On our wolf forms the stench of dried blood was pungent in the air. The bodies of two rogues lay on the ground and Davis walked up to them and sniff their bodies. Dead, both of them. There's a faint scent coming from off the cliff alpha. I walk ahead of Davis towards the edge of the cliff and stop short at the sight of blood on a stone formation at the edge. I slowly look over the cliff and I feel my heart still at the sight of Eliana's motionless body a few feet down. Blood flowed out of a large bite mark at her neck while the body of another rogue lay beside her. The smell of burning flesh reaches my nostrils as Davis steps to my side. Dispose of the rogues. I will take her back to the house. Davis goes about doing as he was told while I slowly made my way down the side of the cliff. Approaching her body, a soft whimper escapes me. I nudge her arm with my nozzle and her skin feels almost cold to the touch. My dear, beautiful Elianna. You came here for the boy. I've lost you because of him. He will pay dearly for this! The sound of the SUV's door opening beside me brings me out of my thoughts. I look out to the Blue Moon pack house as though seeing it for the first time. "Alpha?" The driver looks to me quizzically. I shake my head and exit the vehicle just as Savannah steps off the porch to walk towards me. She wraps her arms around me waist and tip toes to brush a kiss on my lips. "Luna" the driver bows to her before leaving us alone. Savannah looks up at me and the. briefly glances towards the SUV. "I didn't bring him back with me" I answer her silent question and she chuckles softly. "I never expected you to. I was just merely curious" she smiles up to me before motioning for us to go inside. She directs me to the porch swing and guides me to sit while she positions herself on my lap. "So?" I look on as Savannah's eyes bore into mine and I sigh heavily. She c***s an eyebrow at my reaction while wiggling her hips on my lap. I groan and still her movements with my hands. "I did not meet him. He was being treated in the hospital wing. Although I believe if I asked to see him, I was not going to be allowed to" Savannah's eyes widen at my declaration and I chuckle softly. "They have no authority to stop you from seeing him. Why did they help him though? He's nothing but trouble" Savannah frowns and I reach up to caress the furrow between her brows. "He apparently helped them with a rogue attack. How he helped, is what I'd like to know." Savannah holds my face between her hands and looks straight into my eyes. I inhale he scent deeply when she draws closer to me. "That runt couldnt walk straight without bumping into something or tripping on his own feet. Whatever he did to gain their favor was pure luck on his part" I open my mouth to reply when the front door opening alerts us. Savannah turns in my lap and I angle my head around her to see Gregory standing just out the door, head bowed slightly. "Alpha, the preparations for the annual memorial ceremony have been done. Master Sebastian has indicated he will again not be present" Savannah suddenly moves off my lap and I pinch the bridge of my nose for the incoming onslaught of curses. "Why are we still having that bloody ceremony?! She been dead for ages!!!" she lets out a high pitched scream and I groan while Gregory bows again and makes himself scarce. "Savannah, my love, the treaty I signed with her father still holds. We still use their grounds to train our warriors. I need to continue this so that WE don't lose out on taking over that land when the old man leaves this earth" I say calmly but it does nothing to pacify her rage as she growls and walks up into my face again. "I have to deal with the constant reminder that you had a w***e living here before we mated just because you want land?!" she pokes a finger into my chest and it drives me over the edge. I wrap a hand around her throat and stand. I feel my wolf pushing forward in my mind as I see red around me. Savannah's eyes widen in horror when her feet dangle just off the ground as she claws at my hand encircling her throat. "By all means, snap her neck already brother. The silence around here would be heavenly " the sound of my brother's voice has me looking off across the porch and releasing Savannah in the process. She gasps for breath and coughs erratically as Daniel walks over to us, a bored smile on his face. "Pity, so close" he grins widely while Savannah picks herself off the floor and glares at him before turning to me, her hand rubbing at her now bruised throat. "Sebastian and I will not be present for that atrocious ceremony. Do what you must" And with that she turns and walks away leaving me in the company of misery itself. Daniel leans his hip against the porch bannister and pulls out a cigarette. He offers it to me and I shake my head. Large streams of smoke puff out around us as the silence stretches on. I wait a few more seconds and then turn to leave when he finally speaks again. "Don't think for a minute that me being here has anything to do with family bonds and all that bullshit. Did you find the runt?" his voice rings clear with irritation and I turn to face him again. "I found him, yes. But like I said before, the boy is of no threat. The scouts said he found refuge with a rogue pack. They tracked him back to the Clan territory. He's currently under treatment because he supposedly assisted them with rogues. Whatever that means" Daniel puffs out smoke and the throws the cigarette butt on the floor before stomping it out with his boot. "Elianna was hiding something while she lived here Salazar. Your lust clouded your judgement when you brought her here. The boy won't just allow Sebastian to take over the pack just like that!" I growl and slam my hand down onto the bannister and it splinters under the force, wood and stone flying in all directions. "Do not undermine my authority here Daniel! I loved Elianna with everything within me! That runt is the reason she is not with me anymore. Whatever secrets she had, died with her. That useless mutt is no threat to me or this pack!" I turn and walk towards the door, having enough of this conversation. "Don't say I never warned you brother. The quiet ones are always the most dangerous. The Rostover family was shady from the beginning. He is their blood. Keep that in mind" Daniel walks past me and enters through the door, leaving me watching his retreating back with a wave of his hand. I growl again and walk inside, slamming the door behind me. The runt is becoming a pest. Time to put an end to all of this. Forgive me Elianna. The boy must die.
