Chapter 6

Reed's POV
The young man standing beside me doesn't spare me a glance as he glares at Magnus ahead of us and his mutated rogue pet. I smell the faint scent of fear next to me and Gareth tilts his head a bit to nudge the boy with his nose.
"I'm fine. I just never saw him do that to any of them before. Looks painful."
Gareth whines and then nudges the boy again. He finally turns to us while waving his left hand over his head. A soft yellow glow encases us as the boy looks at Gareth and me dead in the eyes.
"Let me say this once as I do know I won't say it to you again. I am no ally to you or your pack. I do not condone Magnus's ways right now so I am offering my assistance. When this is over, we never see each other again"
I don't miss the way his eyes flicker to his right briefly and Gareth turns his head to see that his gaze sought out the only fighting figure in that direction. Rosalie.
Gareth let's out a warning growl and the boy chuckles softly before turning back towards Magnus and the mutant rogue without sparing us anymore attention.
Can I bite off a leg? He needs to be brought down a few pegs.
Gareth's words resound in my head and I almost give him the go ahead but the mutant rogue let out a beastly howl and began charging towards us.
Let's deal with this first.
Gareth hunches on his legs and then runs forward as our talkative companion stayed at our side. I was caught off guard a bit by his ability to keep up with Gareth's speed and I hear Gareth huff in my mind before he and the rogue clash. The rogue bares its canines dangerously close to Gareth's neck and the boy takes that opportunity to leap on top of the rogue and wrap his arms around its neck.
He thinks he can choke that thing? Get that kid out of there Reed!
Luca's voice rings through the link and Gareth rams his head into the torso of the rogue, throwing the boy off a bit but not detaching him from his hold. Suddenly, the boy's eyes begin to glow yellow and the rogue begins to shake its body frantically to get the boy off its back. A blood curdling howl escapes the rogue as though it was calling for help. several other rogues begin rushing towards us to help it and Gareth turns just as the first lunged at the boy. The boy is quick though and he releases his hold and falls on his feet a short distance away. The mutant rogue shakes its head before baring its canines again and lunging towards his opponent again.
Gareth pushes forward but stops short as two toher rogues block his path to the boy.
On your left Reed!
Eliza's voice says just as a huge white wolf springs forward and clamps its mouth around the neck of one rogue. Gareth slashes his front paws along the flank of the other before Seth rushes in to ram his head into the side of it's body. The rogue slumps to the floor as we all turn towards the boy and the mutated rogue.
Does that kid have a death wish?
He claims to be doing us a favor
Seth turns a quizzical look towards Gareth who only turns back his gaze on the boy who was now running circles around the confused rogue. He leaps into the air and the light of the moon catches the blade he pulls from his boot. The blade drives down deep into the side of the rogue who howls out in pain as he crashes to the floor.
Magnus roars out loud before approaching the rogue on the ground and the boy who stood next to it.
"I gave you that blade for your own protection. You dare use it against me?!" Magnus roars again before baring talons and slashing them down towards the boy.
"Orion!"
The sound of Rosalie's voice has us turning just as she rushes forward. Gareth blocks her way from going any further as the boy stood unmoving against the imminent danger.
"Dad, please" Rosalie pleads but Gareth doesn't move from his position infront of her. Seth and Amara flank him to block her view Incase the boy's body was brutally hurt. An ear splitting screech pierces the air and Rosalie covers her ears with her hands as the rest of us hunch over and whine.
We look over to see Magnus hovering over the boy, the talons of the hand baring down now lay decapitated on the ground at the boy's feet, blood oozing from the gash of Magnus's hand. A blue light sparks just above the boy and then disappears as Magnus rears back.
"This isn't over! I will find you and kill you all!"
Magnus soars high and his rogue followers left with him, leaving behind the fallen. Rosalie pushes herself through us and goes up to the boy who slumps to his knees.
Seth turns to shoot Gareth and me a knowing glance while Seraphina walks up to place a hand just behind Gareth's ear. She rubs soothing circles as we watch Rosalie crouch before the boy, both her hands on his shoulders.
Ummm Uncle Reed, do we trust this kid?
Liam and Caleb ask through the link as their wolves step up besides us. Stefan and Alexis's wolves bring up the rare with our remaining warriors as Gigi steps up next to the front watching as well.
We don't know anything about this kid except that he's Alpha Salazar's son. His father is a ruthless son of a b***h. So, I don't want his kid anywhere near my daughter.
"He helped us today though. So give them a minute before we start passing judgement" Seraphina speaks up as she continues to rub comforting circles, keeping Gareth and by extension, me calm.
Rosalie shifts to help the boy to his feet and he staggers a bit. Gigi rushes forward to help her, earning a collective growl from her father and brothers. Gigi turns to glare at them before moving to the boy's left arm, slinging it around her shoulder. Rosalie props his right side by doing the same with his right arm. They both turn him towards us showing us his unconscious state before walking him up to Gareth.
"Dad, we need to take him back to the pack house with us. He's hurt"
Gareth huffs out a breath through his nose as Seraphina steps forward to place a hand gently on the boy's head. She nods to Rosalie who smiles in appreciation as Gareth growls lowly. Seraphina turns to us and places a hand on Gareth's nose before placing her forehead against it as well.

He has a fever. He is unconscious. Let him rest and recover before we send him on his way. We owe him that much.
Gareth nuzzles his big head against Seraphina and inhales deeply before moving back.
Liam and Caleb will take the girls and our guest back. The rest of us will clean up this mess before we head back.
Everyone acknowledges my instructions and Gareth turns to look as the girls place the unconscious boy onto the back of Liam's grey wolf and then climb onto Caleb's back themselves.
I don't like this
I say through the link and I could have sworn I heard a snicker.
The twins are with them Reed. He's unconscious
Seth says before walking past Gareth to shove the body of a rogue to the side.
You can say that. Your daughter isn't being drawn in by a egotistical kid who shoots shield out of his eyes.
Calm down Reed. I'm pretty sure it didn't come out of his eyes
Amara says while walking towards another discarded body and grabbing its hind leg to throw it onto the growing heap.
I don't care if it came out his ....
"Reed!"
Gareth turns to see Seraphina glaring at us and the sound of snickering could be heard through the link as Stefan and Alexis's wolves try their best to seem uninterested.
Seraphina lights a match and throws it to the heap of bodies as she calls to the warriors to gather our own injured and take them back to the main house for medical attention.
Umm guys, this kid just stopped breathing and Rosie is freaking out!
Caleb's voice comes in through the link and everyone stares blankly for a second before we all rush back to the main house.
That kid better not be pulling some stunt! Tell Rosalie she is to not kiss that kid!
"Reed! It's called CPR! She was trained for this very reason!"
Caleb! She is to not ...
Too late uncle Reed, Gigi just helped her take his shirt off.
Why are you two watching your sister undress a guy?!
Luca's voice echoes through the link but I blank it out as Gareth speeds forward back to the pack grounds. The wind whips at his face as he leaps over fallen branches and through the thicket of the forest.
We tried to stop them and Gigi now has Liam in an arm bar. Rosie is....aww man, I can't watch this.
Caleb's words only fuel Gareth to go faster as we reach the open field just ahead of the pack lands. A small cloud of dust bellows around us as several paws hit the earthen ground at once.
We're almost there!
Seth says to Caleb as we stop just short of the front main building. We could see Liam and Gigi struggling on the floor of the front porch and Caleb pacing infront of the steps. Rosalie was hunched over a motionless figure on the wooden floorboards of the porch. She draws back before raising her fists clasped together and then slamming them down on the boy's chest. Rosalie looks up to us, tears streaming down her face.
We shift back as we see the medical staff from the hospital wing rushing up and taking over. A warrior steps towards us with duffel bags of clothes. Gigi and Liam have stopped struggling and were now watching on as the staff connected defibrillator pads to the boy's chest. Rosalie steps back weakly as she watches the staff work. She stumbles and Gigi rushes forward to hold her.
Everyone steps closer to the porch as the staff continue to administer shocks and injections. Seraphina moves in close and I hear her gasp out loud. She crouches near the boys and reaches out to him. As I walk in closer I see her gentle caress a moon and star pendant at his chest before pulling away and looking up at me, tears filling her eyes.
"He has a fae heirloom around his neck. It's the crescent of a strong fae family I heard stories about growing up. It's no coincidence he was able to shield all of us and stand up to Magnus"
Seraphina then walks over to our daughter who collapses into sobs as the medical staff keeps trying to revive the boy.
Luca, Eliza, Stefan and Alexis walk up to stand beside me as I let out a heavy sigh.
" We're going to have to save this kid, just so that I can kill him myself for making my daughter cry"
