Chapter 6It took a moment for Brent to realise the avalanche had passed. Only a thin layer of snow covered him, and he shook it off as he stood, groaning. Then he looked around for the log that John had taken cover behind. The forest was covered with a thick layer of fresh snow and Brent couldn’t see John or Kiran, but he knew roughly where they’d taken shelter. Time seemed to stand still as he made slow progress through the deep snow, calling out for John or Kiran to answer. An arm thrust up from a snowbank and Brent struggled his way over and began to dig with his hands. It took only minutes, although it felt like hours, before Brent had cleared enough snow for John to stand and pull out Kiran. His husband’s face was as pale as the snow, but he moaned as John set him down. “Kiran? It
