Madaline smirked at me. "Nice to see you had fun last night."
"Don't," I warned.
She grinned. "And bringing you to work too."
"Shut up."
She laughed. "Does he know you won't be around for a while?"
"He does. But not the specifics, but he knows I won't be around for a while."
"Good. Let's go over your assignment, the plane leaves in four hours."
I nodded and we headed into her office.
Once we were done with the assignment briefing, I made my way to the prison with one last person to see before I left.
The officers walked in with Grady, his wrists and ankles cuffed. They had chains going through them. Guess who the naughty boy was then?
They pushed him down onto a seat. I looked at him. He'd lost weight and his eyes were dark, cold and hollow. "What are you doing here Jacob? You made it quite clear that you wanted nothing else to do with me."
"Oh, I don't. I just came to say goodbye."
He looked nervously at me. "Why? Where are you going?"
"That's none of your concern. Just letting you know I'm not going to be back for a while."
"So, they've finally got you by the balls and twisted it around their little finger. You're finally going it alone. They won't save you. They won't give a s**t Jacob, they'll leave you to rot and find someone else to take your place."
"That's bull s**t, and you know it."
"Is it Jake? That b***h knows you don't work alone. She's leading you into danger just to get rid of you. Now I'm in here and out of the way, she can get rid of you too. "
"Well, I'm willing to take that chance. You see, Grady, we do not all like you and are suspicious of everyone. Maybe if I was like you, then I would never have been torn into pieces by your betrayal."
"I'm sorry Jake."
"Too late for sorries Grady. You not only betrayed me, my friend, the force, the FBI, but also your brother. You're nothing to me, not anymore. There will be someone looking in on you now and again," I said, walking away.
"Please don't do this alone Jacob, you'll end up in danger. Please, Jacob, I don't want you dead."
I don't want myself dead either, but it comes with the job. It's a risk we all take.
"Stop acting as if you care!"
"I love you, Jacob. "
"Well, I don't love you," I said, walking and slamming the door behind me.
After I said my goodbyes to everyone, I got in the taxi heading to the airport where I'd get on the airplane to Ireland to secure my fate in the Irish Mafia's hands.
Claudia
It has taken three whole days to get all the paperwork signed and my name changed. I wasn't sure of how this would help in the future. They could still find any ways and means of finding me. I'd need plastic surgery to change completely and that was a no-go.
Domenic had suggested it and I had shot him down, so the only thing he could do was sigh and tell me he'd get me to change my mind in the near future. If not, he and Benji would teach me how to defend myself, which included using firearms, something that I wasn't too keen on but, I wasn't keen on plastic surgery either, so when her tiny came I would opt for the first as there was no way I was changing my looks so much so to get unnoticed.
Today was finally the day that I got all my identification papers and cards. From today onwards, I will be known as Claudia Delouis. And that's how I would be introduced to my co-workers.
Domenic showed us around his exquisite home. It had all been designed to his specifications by an interior designer, and it was breathtakingly beautiful. There was no way I could ever afford a place like this.
He had shown me and Benji to our rooms after we had eaten and drunk way too much champagne. And it wasn't the cheap s**t either.
The bedroom was enormous. It was as big as my parents' living and dining room put together. It was painted a light blue colour and had a walk-in wardrobe and a dressing table. I smiled as I found the en suite. The bedroom was different than I imagined it to be. The bathroom was to die for. I couldn't wait to try the bubble bath out. Yes, there was a jacuzzi bath in the bathroom.
I would try it out when I wasn't exhausted and too damn tired would result in falling asleep there. Too dangerous and definitely not a good idea.
I slid my feet out of my trainers and took my tee-shirt and jeans off and fell to the bed in my underwear, falling asleep immediately.
"They're here." Domenic said, almost too excitedly.
Benji and I made our way to the kitchen table where the coffees and breakfast were laid out. We both sat down and Domenic passed me the envelope.
I tore it open and pulled out the papers confirming my new identity along with a birth certificate, Identity card and a photo car license.
"Great. Now you're officially Claudia Delouis. Now the ball is finally rolling, we can go to the office to introduce you before we head off to Stacy and Kristian's wedding vows renewals."
I nodded smiling. I couldn't wait to see them again even if we were going for four days. It would be four days of pure bliss.
We ate our breakfast and drank our coffee before going to our rooms to refresh and change into more suitable office attire.
Domenic and Benji were both in black Armani suits and, damn, they looked hot.
They looked at me and smiled. "You look gorgeous."
"Wow baby you will make every man and woman jealous."
I smiled. "And so will both of you."
They laughed, and we headed out to the BMW waiting outside. We slid in and closed the door. "I will introduce you to all the members of staff. You will be my accountant, manager, making sure that all of my finances are up-to-date."
I nodded.
The car pulled away. Domenic began talking about business with Benji and I until the car pulled up to the twenty-twenty-story building, f**k I hoped we weren't on the top floor. I don't like heights.
I gulped.
"Don't worry, baby, you're on the middle floor. I rotate between floors, which means I have an office on each floor. Benji will be on the sixth floor."
I gulped, nodding, couldn't I be on the first floor?
We got out of the car and entering the building. I refused to go in the lift and I made them both walk up ten flights of stairs huffing and puffing. God, they were so out of shape. We had a rest halfway before starting up the next five flights of stairs.
When we finally made it, we were greeted by the receptionist who gave us all a coffee before we went into the large room where every team from every floor was gathered.
Domenic cleared his throat. Everyone looked up at him. "I know you're wondering why I have called you all here." He paused. "I am proud to announce
Not only do we have a new board of directors but a new financial assistant. Please welcome Benji De Alvaro who will be accessing all areas of our business projects and Claudia Delouis who will be my financial assistant. All earnings, deduction, ingoing and outgoing mail etcetera will be handed to her in two weeks' time. No questions. I'll answer them all soon. You can go back to your work, and please tear your new Co workers with respect, or I will not hesitate in firing your asses. You may go."
They all turned, making their way out chattering about the new changes. I'm sure their confusion will be answered as soon as we get back from Stacy and Kristian's wedding vow renewals.
"Well, that went better than expected."
"They'll want to know why you took me and Benji on when clearly you have no need for us."
"But I do and they will baby. Let them sweat." He smirked.
I shook my head. "Let's get out of here. I'll show you your offices, and we can grab a coffee before I have to get to work."
"Are you sure I can't start today?"
"You could baby. There are loads of finances. I'd like you to look at home. Maybe Benji can help you."
"Sure." He smiled.
I take it he wasn't at work today either.
We all went to the cafeteria to have a coffee and a chat before leaving Domenic to get back to work whilst we headed home to sort out his finances. This was going to be a long ass day.
