Author’s Note
This story came about because of conversations with friends! Quite a while ago—back when I was writing the first draft of the whole Character Bleed trilogy!—we ended up having discussions about whether Colby and Jason would take each other’s names, or if they’d combine or hyphenate. I decided they probably would do something along those lines, not because they’re terribly traditional but because they’d both like the symbolism: both of them getting a new name, shared with each other.
And then I went off and worked on other stories and the trilogy got published and then there were more bonus stories, and at some point in the chronology Colby and Jason got married, and my writer-brain decided to circle back to that question of naming. And then the story did the thing stories s
