The road home felt much longer than what it took to get to Woodhill. When reaching the edge of the woods, I shifted back and dressed in a backup outfit I had brought with me… but I forgot the backup shoes. My shoes got destroyed when shifting and I am now left barefoot. Curse that dam wolf. I huffed and puffed while grabbing my bag and walking towards the packed house with bare feet. As I approach the pack house, Bret and Danna come walking out. This will not be good.
“Waiting for me?” I ask as sweet and innocently as possible. Although I’m sure my messy hair and bare feet send a different message. Plus, I am empty handed, cr*p, I never went to pick up anything from the store. It might not even matter by the look of Bret’s body language, he was not happy. Does he know? I ask myself. Danna being next to him means she told him something. “Where have you been?” he is shouting and waving his hands in the air gesturing his question.
“Seriously, I’m not even late for dinner.” I tried brushing him off. He grabs me and twists my arm around my back, pushing me against the wall from behind.
“I smell a male wolf all over you! Where the F-K have you been?” he is leaning into my ear as he talks through his teeth. He is seething. He is hurting me and I do not know what to say. I do not know what to do. He has never acted like this with me.
“You are hurting me” is all I could get out while a tear runs down my cheek. I cannot believe how I am being treated by my own boyfriend. Danna is rushing over holding on the Bret’s shoulder trying to talk sense into him.
“Bret calm down. Bret calm down, if you hurt her this will be the end of our family. Calm down!” He does not move, like he is thinking it over. Then he step back. I turned around and the sound of my hand connecting to Bret’s face was echoing between our silence. On a normal day I would never assault a pack member like that, but it has been a day, and I had enough of being man handled for one day. We are staring into each other’s eyes, but not in a loving way. It’s a challenge, we are daring each other to make the next move. He was hurting me and Danna was worried about her family’s safety, not mine. I feel betrayed. Did this just really happen?
“a True mate would never do this.” Ash is clearly now trying to point out the red flags with Bret since she had now met her true mate. I felt like I wanted to hit my face with the palm of my hand. All this cannot really be happening. I stepped past Bret “Thanks for having my back” was all I had to say to Danna. I leave both of them there, going to my room to grab a shower and get some shoes before dinner. I spend an extra few minutes in the shower making sure I get any and every sign of my mate off me. I put on a mint green dress with matching heals and even put on some perfume on me. I do not usually use perfume as wolves each have a unique, sent to them, but tonight, I could not risk still having the smell of my mate on me. I braided my hair to the side and rushed to dinner as I was already late. Walking in everyone stops to look at me for a second before continuing with their dinner. I rushed to the high ranking table and hugged my mother and father from behind.
“You smell lovely” my mother complimented me, and I froze waiting to hear if there was anything to follow in regards to my smell.
“Anything should be better than that wolf’s stench from before.” Bret snorted. I gave Bret a stern look, telling him to sh*t up and moved to sit down by the table for dinner.
“What wolf?” My father questions me, but Bret decides to answer instead.
“She went out of town today, for… shopping. She came back stinking like some wolf.” I let out a deep sigh knowing what was to come.
“Shopping Adeline? Shopping?” My father asked. I do not answer as I know this is not really what he was wanting to know. “I told you no. When you asked me to go, I. Said. No!” He says while hitting the table with his fists.
“Father, The Aberrant pack is stealing territory. They are moving closer to our grounds. What if we are next? At least now we know their Alpha's name is Connor, and there was only 1 wolf to be found in the town. Perhaps if I had more time and the support of my Alpha, I would have been able to gather more information” I try to defend myself and get as much information as possible out to state my case, knowing he is going to shut me down again.
“They are not part of the Wolf community. They are like ghosts. We need to know more to be ready for what is to come.” Another fist hits the table, making me stop.
“I SAID NO!” He shouts out making the entire dining hall quiet.
“This is not your responsibility; you might be an Alpha born, but you not an Alpha! Now please stop this, and leave these things to the men.” My heart ached hearing these words. I know I have disappointed my father. We have never fought out in the open like this before. I know this was a big betrayal for him.
“Please excuse me,” I said softly, but I know everyone has heard me. Walking out of the dining hall, I just keep reminding myself to keep my head up high… at least till I get out of here. Leaving the dining hall, I released a breath I did not know I was keeping in. I ran up to my room and fell face down on my bed, muffling my scream. I stayed like that till I could not withstand the suffocation my mattress was causing. I roll over thinking of everything that happened today. All that trouble and I came back with more problems instead of answers. Goddess!
The following few days, I stayed away from training. Bret did not come looking for me, not my sisters, no one. Meals kept on arriving at my room. I assume it was sent from my mother. I could not sit and do nothing but I had no heart to face anyone, so I gathered books, some of my grandfather’s journals, pack laws, anything that I thought might help me with this Aberrant Pack situation. 3 days had passed and scouts arrived bringing maps marked with the territories they could identify, but I chose to stay away. I assume my father knew what I was doing while staying in my room when copies of those maps arrived at my door. The Maps showed that 3 other human towns north of Woodhill had been overtaken by the Aberrant Pack as well. Fairport, Willows and Davis creeks. Day 4, and I was still in my room researching when a small knock on the door grabbed my attention. Looking up, I saw my mother peeking in.
“Come in”. I assure her that its ok to enter. She walks in and sits on my bed in silence. I watched her, waiting to find out why she was there.
“You scared him by placing yourself in danger like that”, she says, without looking at me. She takes a deep breath and continues.
“Adeline, he is trying really hard. We both come from very traditional families and when it comes to you, he has made a lot of compromises. He allows you in all the pack meetings, he keeps no pack business from you, he even let your train. Do you know how hard it is for him to allow a wolf to hit you during training? With your title comes a lot of responsibilities and a lot of danger. It really is not fair to you, but if anyone in this family could handle it, it would be you.” She is always the peace maker in the family with her voice of reason.
“He disrespected and discarded me in front of the entire pack, how will the pack have trust in me if my own father does not”. She does not give me a chance to add more when she interrupts me.
“And how can the pack trust your father to lead the pack if his own daughter does not”. She stands up giving me a kiss on my head before heading out, but stops when reaching the door.
“It’s not your time yet, Adeline. He needs you”, she walks off, leaving me with that thought. I try to get my mother’s exiting words out of my head by looking at the maps, still trying to narrow down where the Aberrant pack house could be located, but find it hard to focus and decide to go to the training grounds instead. This time of night it should be empty. I Hope.
Entering the training grounds, I dropped my bag and immediately started hitting the punching bag. Jab, cross, straight right, straight left, left hook, right hook. I stepped back, ready to start again.
“I wondered how long it was going to be before you were coming to punch it out.” I heard Bret. I turned to see him walking in my direction. He stops at the punching bag and holds it for me.
“Have you just been waiting here for me for 4 days? Because you definitely weren’t with your girlfriend,” I said while starting again. Jab, cross, straight right, straight left, left hook, right hook. “Adeline, we both know when you and your father go at it like that, its best to stay out of both your way until the dust settles.” He is taking punch by punch while holding the bag.
“My father… and I… would not have… been going… at it… if you did not rat on me” I spit out in between the punches.
“He needed to know. Your actions might have provoked that pack. We are now only waiting for the consequences of your little visit?” Out of breath, I stepped back, listening to him. He lets go of the punching bag and walks closer to me, wrapping his arms around my waist. He pauses to look me in my eyes and tells me that he loves me. He leans down and kisses me softly. I lift my arms around his neck deepening the kiss. I am desperate to have him make me feel the way my mate did when we kissed. I suddenly pushed Bret away from me. Bret looks at me confused. I stood there trying to hold Ash back. His confused look turns to shock. He must have noticed that Ash is trying to take over. I stood there growling at him till I finally grabbed my bag and walked away.
“How dare you kiss another?” Ash is scolding me in my head.
“Bret is our boyfriend. It is not the first time we kissed him.” I pointed out the facts.
“That was before we found mate! I will not let you betray him like that”
“Ash, we cannot be with our mate. You need to get this fantasy out of your head.” We are having this heated conversation on our way back to my room.
“You do not know mate; how do you know we cannot be with him?” I sigh and it feels like I am hurting myself trying to convince her to let go of this idea of our mate.
“Exactly, we do not know him. So how do we entrust our pack to him? As an Alpha born, we need to think about more than just a magical bond.” I’m storming into my room, slamming my door.
“Hello Princess” I jump as those words bring me out of my head. I was so consumed by my conversation with Ash that I did not realize there was somebody in my room. I turned around to be met by his gorgeous grey, blue eyes.
“Mate!” I heard Ash in my head. Great, more encouragement was the last thing she needed.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, but then realized he should not be able to get in here.
“How are you here?” My eyes were going big thinking of how many wolves he would have had to go through to get to my room. I take a defensive stance, not sure of his intentions. Is he here to deliver the consequences Bret was talking about?
“Relax, I am not here to hurt you.” He walked over to my desk.
“So tell me why a daughter of the Alpha was snooping around our little town.” He was picking up books from my desk and flipping through pages, putting the book down, then picking up another one.
“And why are you mapping out our territory?” he is moving papers on top of the map to see what we have so far.
“Our northern scouts informed us about you steeling lands” He raises his brow like he does not know what I am talking about.
“Claiming human towns as new territory. These new lands are bringing your pack very close to our boarders. Any Alpha would be a fool not looking into this to assess the threat.” One corner of his mouth is lifted almost like a grin, as he nods slowly while I talk. His gaze was so intense I felt like he was savoring every word that came out of my mouth. He started walking towards me. My mind and my body not agreeing on what to do leaves me like a statue.
“Soooo,” the Alpha born is allowed to train AND is involved in pack business… Interesting.” He brushes a stand of hair out of my face and tucks it behind my ear, then continues to gently hold my chin, leaving sparks everywhere his hand makes contact with my skin.
“Your alpha promoted you from henchman to stalker? you must love the gigs that come with your pack.” He chuckles at my words.
“I did not know these packs allowed their woman to be so spicy. Here I thought you were all trained to be obedient little ornaments”, he then placed a soft kiss on my lips. All logic left my body and I’m flooded with pure need. I grasped his face, deepening the kiss. I push my tongue into his mouth and he eagerly grants me access, returning the gesture. I feel one hand on my lower back and another hand moving from my leg to my inner thigh and over my center. I tilt my head back, moaning from the brief contact, and when reaching my waist band of my pants, he stops. He is playing with it, lingering as if waiting for permission. I should stop him but I don’t and he takes that as a go ahead. His hand slides into my pants
“F**K Adeline” He grunts when he feels my wetness. He slams a finger inside of me, making a moan escape me again. He places wet kisses down my neck then adds a second finger while a third finger is placing pressure on my swollen bundle of nerves. He reaches the crook of my neck where mates mark one another. The wet kiss he places there is extra sensitive, causing me to moan once again. He lingers there and then starts sucking on the spot and I feel my release overtaking me. He muffles my scream with a kiss. It was my first ever o****m and it was the best feeling I have ever experienced. My body felt numb and I was left with a panting breath and a big smile plastered on my face. Goddess! He takes his fingers out and licks in between his 2 fingers to taste my juices and its turning me on again. He leans in and gives me another kiss and I can taste myself on his tongue. When his lips moved away from mine, I released a whimper of disappointment.
“Tell me you are mine”, he sounded like he was pleading. My eyes shot open. What? How did we go from this to that…?
“I… I am not yours”. Before I could elaborate, he grabs my face and pushes his lips against mine again with such passion. I open my mouth to let him in and I’m not sure if I felt his or my desperation for each other in the kiss, I just know I wanted more. His manhood is pushing against me and, for the first time, I do not want to push away. I gasp for air the moment our kiss breaks and I see his eyes flickering from light to dark.
“No one will ever make you feel like this” His arrogant remark drains all the joy I just felt, bringing me back to my hard reality.
“funny, because I have had better.” I lie and a loud growl erupted. His fist slammed into the wall right next to my face making me shutter with fear.
“I will not let you be with that F—king lapdog” I pulled my head back to see his entire face. I am sure I look as confused I feel.
“It is not your choice to make.” I can see he is fighting with his wolf, but I do not care. This is for both of them to hear.
“You do not believe in true mates”, he states, not ask. So I give no response.
“This is what these packs have turned into. Wolves who dishonor our Goddess by refusing her gifts!” I can see the anger in him and decide to take a step away
“I cannot and will not give my pack over to an outsider who is from a pack that has abandoned our ways, our laws and our traditions. I have duty and responsibilities as an Alpha born.” He interrupts me.
“That lap dog is your duty and responsibility?” He scoffs and walks towards the window.
“Then so be it” he says before jumping out. I ran to the window, my heart clenching with concern, but when I looked down, he was already running towards the woods. I let out a breath I did not know I was holding and turned to lean against the wall next to the window and slide down to sit on the floor. I am left with a pain in my heart knowing he has accepted my choice. Ash is whimpering inside me and I know I have broken my wolf with this decision, but it is for the best.
