CHAPTER 5 - MY MATE - ADELINES POV

1375 Words
We arrived at the party late, thanks to my stupid twin Elias. He said he’d had an emergency, but it was pretty obvious he’d been having s*x with his mate Alysha, judging by the state of his hair and tux. They had met a few months ago, and they never kept their hands off each other. It was so gross. "Whatever." I snapped at his miserable excuse. I wanted to get this night over with, so I could curl up in bed crying. "Let's, go." "What’s with you?" Eli asked, looking at me with concern. "Nothing." I snapped, I felt him try to get into my mind, but I blocked him. "Let's, just go." I marched off towards the elevators with my family, Alysha and Lydia following behind. "What did you do?" Eli asked someone behind me. I heard Damien whispering to Eli about Julian and the proposal. "WHAT!" Eli shouted, but Damien hit him in the arm. "Shut up, you f*cking id*ot." Damien snapped, "Do you want the whole hotel to hear you?" "She’s not marrying him." Eli snapped, I rolled my eyes, and I felt Lydia take my hand in comfort as we entered the elevator. "He’s a prick that goes through women like toilet paper. Is that what you want for our sister?" Oh wonderful, I felt tears fill my eyes, but I looked down at my feet so no one would notice, Kally was growling in my mind. "He wouldn’t treat her like that." Damien snapped, his alpha tone coming out. "She’s not marrying him." Eli repeated, "She’s marrying her mate or no one!" "This could save our pack one day!" Damien snapped, and I felt guilty about what would happen to our pack if I didn’t marry him? "Fine, you marry the b***h!" Eli snapped, making Damien’s mate Kasey laugh. "He can have him." Kasey said, amused tears in her eyes. Damien growled and everyone went silent. "We will discuss this in private tomorrow." He informed us, "Tonight, we will focus on the party." "And hopefully Addy will find her mate, and your plans to use her as a chess piece will be over." Eli snapped as he hugged me from behind. ‘Don’t worry.’ He said to me, through the mind link as he rested his head on my shoulder. ‘I won’t let him use you.’ ‘It could protect the pack.’ I said back sadly. ‘F*ck the pack.’ Eli snapped, ‘It’s Damien’s job to look after the pack, not yours. You’re not some bargaining chip.’ ‘What about the prophecy?’ I asked him sadly, ‘If I marry him, then the prophecy mightn’t come true.’ ‘There’s no proof that the prophecy is even real.’ Eli pointed out, ‘You deserve your mate. You deserve to be as happy as I am with Alysha.’ "Are you two done?" Damien snapped. He always seemed to know when Eli and I were communicating privately. When wolves talk through the mind link, their eyes go white, and ours did, too, when we spoke to other members of the pack but not when we spoke to each other. We found that out as children. No one figured out how it was possible, but it did come in handy, especially when we played cards against our family. Only Damien seemed to know when we were talking privately. "Let 's just enjoy tonight." Damien pleaded, but Eli only glared at him and gave me a tight hug before releasing me. We got off the elevator. No one was really in the mood to have fun anymore. As we walked into the lovely hall, Lydia froze and her hand tightened on mine, she was looking at a very pretty red-haired girl in a tux, who looked angrily at me, her eyes going from my face to my hand as she growled. "Ow!" I said, and released Lydia’s hand when I realized her mate was angry at me for touching her. "Sorry, just friends." I put my hands up and stepped back. This girl was a Lycan, and they were known for their jealousy. I had to let her know that I wasn’t a threat to her claim on Lydia. The Lycan girl walked over to us, her eyes sweeping up and down Lydia’s body. She seemed to like what she saw, because she was smiling. "MATE!" The girl said happily in a deep, soothing voice. "MATE!" Lydia’s wolf shouted back happily, I smiled at my friend, I was so happy for her, she looked so excited. "Name?" The Lycan demanded, her eyes never leaving Lydia’s. "L-Lydia." Lydia whispered shyly, looking down. It wasn’t a good idea to look a Lycan in the eyes. It was a form of challenge, especially for an omega. The Lycan placed her hand under Lydia’s chin and lifted her head. "I’m Alexia, but call me Max." "Max." Lydia smiled but quickly looked down once more. "Never lower your head to me." Max ordered, making me smile. "Ok," Lydia smiled warmly. "And one more thing, mate." Max said firmly, her voice rough, "You are mine." And with that, Max pulled Lydia in and sank her canines into Lydia’s neck, not even giving her so much as a warning, Lycan's were such animals. Lydia moaned in pain for a second before her moans changed to pleasure, geese, I blushed. Max could have taken her to a private room. Me and my family all looked away, attempting to give them privacy. After a few seconds, Max pulled back before smashing her lips onto Lydia’s, it didn’t look like they were coming up for air anytime soon, plus Lydia would have to mark Max back in return. Memories would be exchanged during a second marking, and it could sometimes be difficult if your mate was a Lycan. They lived decades longer than wolves and the influx of their memories would cause the non-Lycan mate to pass out. I took this distraction as a chance to sneak off, I didn’t want to be here, I had to hide from my mate and Julian who I noticed near the band. He looked over at me and smiled, though his arm was around some girl’s waste. I nodded and walked off towards the back door, the second I ran out into the garden I realized my mistake. My mate was there, and I froze as his scent surrounded me. He smelt like rain and hot chocolate and the woods, all nature and freshness and comfort, my favorite things. He looked so much better in person in his tux than he ever did in my dreams. "MATE!" "Mate!" Kally repeated his words. His voice was incredible, so strong and soothing. Suddenly, he was right in front of me, holding me in place with his strong hands. "Mine!" The electricity from his touch stirred my wolf, and I was instantly turned on. "Mine!" I repeated again, and I couldn’t find any other words. I watched as his eyes darkened and canines extended, he was going to mark me, I had to stop this, I had to reject him before it was too late. You could reject a werewolf after the marking was done. My parents were proof of that, even though it nearly killed my dad, but it was impossible to reject a Lycan, it was permanent. I felt his warm breath on my skin, I shivered in excitement, but I couldn’t let this happen. My dad would be heartbroken, my pack needed me to marry Julian. There’s no other way. My brother would never accept help from a Lycan pack if it were needed. I placed my hands on his firm chest, I didn’t want to, it felt wrong to stop him, but I had to. I shoved him hard using my powers, making my head swim. I could use Kally's powers without any issues, but when I used mine, there would be issues. My mate stumbled back, shock evident on his face. He clearly didn’t expect me to have the strength to push him. "NO!" I screamed, my hand shot up, and I covered my marking spot. I couldn’t help the tears that filled my eyes. ‘No!’ Kally roared at me, ‘DON’T!’
