Hailey quickly made her way through the quiet route from the priestesses sacred temple that led straight towards the large waterfall. It was rarely used since most werewolves hated water, but it was considered sacred for the priestesses.
Slowly, she stepped out of the simple clothes she had been wearing, then changed into a pure white towel. Her hair fell across her back, and she took a deep breath, then went into the water.
The water felt cool against her skin, and she raised her head above it, to take a deep breath. Slowly, she moved to the shallower part, her hands moving to untie the knot of the towel. Suddenly, before she could get it untied, she heard a slight ruffle from the bushes around. She quickly put it back on and turned around. It didn't seem like there was anyone around, and she squinted her eyes, bringing her hands to her face to rid it of the extra water so she could see much better.
Her eyes suddenly caught a small bush moving, and she drew back, burying her body below the water.
"Who is there?" She called.
There was no answer, but the movement continued. She drew back in fright, and slowly, a wolf emerged from behind the bushes. It was the largest she had ever seen, and possibly the whitest too. It seemed spotless, and looked like it carried the reflection of the moon between the strands of the hair that covered it.
The wolf took one more step forward, and she watched it's eyes thin. For a while, no one moved, and she stayed there, her hand securing the knot of her towel, her eyes wide, her breath all over the place. She swallowed hard, propping herself up against the rock behind her.
"Whose wolf are you?" She asked, hoping it would mind link her, or at least go away.
It said nothing, just watched her for a few more minutes, its eyes sweeping over her like prey. Before she could say a word, with slow majestic steps, it turned around and bounded off, like it had seen nothing.
The strong scent suddenly hit her nose as it left, and she closed her eyes, perceiving it. She opened her eyes slowly again, watching the path the wolf had taken.
"Alpha?"
"Alpha. You are back. Here." Beta Nico said, immediately bringing up a large shawl as alpha Morales quickly shifted back. He placed it around him, then followed as he walked back into the alpha's palace.
It was easily the largest building in the entire pack, including the pack house where the omegas lived and trained the pups.
"Did I miss something?"
Beta Nico shrugged. "Not much. I have heard that the elites of the pack would be having a small celebration tonight before the pack's full moon thanksgiving. Would you be attending?"
Alpha Morales walked slowly upstairs, knowing the beta would follow. He was more like a friend, and sometimes even a brother, and he walked to his room.
He checked the large closet for some clothes, then pulled a white and black hoodie and joggers set.
"Let them do whatever they want. I won't attend today."
Beta Nico nodded. "Alright."
He turned and started to walk away.
"Beta. I want a drink."
Beta Nico furrowed his brows, then slowly nodded. "I will bring it immediately."
Hailey quickly finished up her bath, then immediately went back to the temple. It was already setting and she would need to prepare before the full moon came up.
"Are you done?" The grand priestess asked once she was back, and Hailey nodded.
"Yes. I will go get ready now."
She started to walk away, but hesitated, wondering if she should tell the grand priestess about the wolf from earlier. Did him seeing her like that render her impure? What if it did? Did that mean her twenty years of practice would all go to waste?
She swallowed and shook her head, then turned away quickly back to her room.
She dried off again, and sat in front of the incense of musk, feeling the scent cloud around her. It was her original scent, and she heard most of them used their different scents on the day of their anointment.
There was no need to comb her hair as things like that were forbidden for priestesses. To be self absorbed, wear revealing clothes and things like that.
Slowly, she put on the white dress. It was off the shoulder, and she let her hair go down her back.
The door suddenly opened, and she turned to see the grand priestess walking in, a small bowl in her hand.
"Come with me to the waiting house."
Hailey nodded and immediately followed behind her. It was a small house right between the pack house and the priestesses temple, where as they said, the moon shone the brightest. She would wait there, before she would finally be anointed in front of the temple later.
The grand priestess made sure to oil her hair with the same musk, before leaving her alone to wait and manifest her spirit wolf.
She swallowed, her legs crossed under her, her eyes lowered to her fingers. Tonight was the night. She would finally give up on everything else and devote herself to the service of her pack. She swallowed. It felt a little scary now.
She watched the window atop the wall. The sky showed signs of the moon and she swallowed, closing her eyes for a little while to calm her nerves.
A small knock came on the door and Hailey's heart jumped to her throat. Was it already time?
She didn't move, knowing the grand priestess would open it up herself. Sure enough, the door slowly opened, and she looked up, her breath hitched in her throat.
But it didn't look like the grand priestess. This person was leaning feebly on the door knob, and seemed...like a man.
"Who are you?" Hailey said, her voice shaking with disbelief. No man should be here. It was a taboo. She immediately stood, her fists clenching before her, alarm bells going off in her head.
The person laughed as he moved further, and much to Hailey's dread, closed the door.
"That scent..." He started to say. His voice was a lazy drawl, and she could tell his wolf was in control, just like hers.
"Don't come any closer. I swear, I will..." She turned around, but there was nothing.
He smiled and moved further, just as the moon slowly emerged, streaming light above them. Hailey's eyes widened as she looked at him. Dark red eyes that gave way for blue just before it melted into the black irises met hers.
"Alpha?" she said, her heart dropping to her stomach, his scent filling her up. She found herself unable to look away from his eyes and she stayed there, the voice of rationality pushed away to the background.
They carried a depth she had never seen before, and she moved away a little. His dirty blonde hair fell to the side, and he smiled as he covered their distance, and before she could say a word, wrapped his hand around her waist.
"Let me go!" She yelled, struggling hard, but he was much taller, and had a strong grip. And it wasn't just that. His scent weakened her knees, his eyes making her struggles feeble.
He moved, so his nose slowly buried itself in the crook of her neck, his grip on her waist tightened.
"That scent..." He whispered against her warm skin, then moved away, so his eyes met her terrified ones.
He let his eyes skim over her face, taking in the last details of her features. She watched him too, his heavily defined pale pink lips, his straight roman nose, his sharp jawlines. He watched her light blue eyes for the longest time, and with each second that passed, the intensity in his eyes darkened.
She felt her breath fail her as he slowly pulled her towards his body, his warmth enveloping her. It was wrong. It was a taboo. She had trained all her life to avoid this. To never succumb.
But something...something undeniable, something as crystal clear as the moon above them...it spoke to her in more ways than one. Spoke to her in languages she could not understand, and did not dare to.
He buried his nose on her neck again, this time moving a little, his breath faltering just like hers as he took her in.
Her breath came out in short bursts as she struggled not to close her eyes. She never felt this sort of attraction before, and she found herself unable to give precedence to her rationality.
He moved away again, his eyes moving to hers, his voice husky and almost breathless.
"Your scent..." he let his voice trail off as his eyes moved to reclaim hers again, in the most enthralling way she knew.
"Do you belong to me?"
