Worst Decission

Asher stood in front of his bedroom mirror, buttoning the last few buttons of his crisp white shirt. His reflection stared back at him, the familiar face of the Alpha heir: controlled, composed, but beneath that mask, he could feel the storm raging. He tugged the shirt cuffs, adjusted them neatly, and glanced down at his dark blue jeans. It was a simple outfit, casual yet respectful enough for the monthly Pack Dinner that his mother hosted. With one last look in the mirror, Asher sighed, running a hand through his tousled dark hair. He was ready on the outside, but inside… he was far from it. The thoughts of Bella still clung to him like shadows, and the heat of his earlier emotions simmered just beneath his skin. He grabbed his keys, pausing as he considered his next move. Normally, he would drive to the event hall, but tonight, he chose to walk. Maybe the physical effort, the fresh evening air, would help calm the chaos within him. As he stepped outside, the cool breeze brushed against his skin, bringing a brief sense of relief. He started down the well-worn path toward the event’s hall, his hands in his pockets as his thoughts ran wild. Bella will be there tonight. She was always there with her parents, Tim and Dana, part of the Delta family. And as much as he looked forward to seeing her, every encounter with her only seemed to feed the growing fire inside him. Asher was so deep in thought that he almost didn’t notice the figure approaching him from the side. “Yo, Storm! You in there, man?” Asher snapped out of his reverie to see Vlad grinning at him. His friend fell into step beside him, his usual laid-back attitude evident in the bounce of his step. Vlad was everything Asher wasn’t: carefree, a prankster, always pushing boundaries and finding humor in the most unlikely situations. But that’s exactly why Asher appreciated him. He could always be himself around Vlad, and their trust ran deep. “What’s up, Vlad?” Asher greeted, trying to shake off his earlier mood. “Not much, just trying to figure out what’s got our future Alpha all broody. Don’t tell me you’re actually stressed about your mom’s dinner,” Vlad teased, bumping his shoulder playfully. Asher chuckled, but it was a weak effort. “Nah, just... thinking.” “Thinking?” Vlad raised a brow, his grin widening. “About a certain dark-haired girl, perhaps?” Asher shot him a warning look, though he knew Vlad wasn’t entirely wrong. Vlad was perceptive when it came to Asher, and while he hadn’t openly admitted his feelings for Bella, Vlad wasn’t blind, especially as he was a good observer. “Maybe,” Asher said after a moment, his tone reluctant. He wasn’t about to lay all his cards on the table, not yet. “But I’ve got a lot on my plate, and I need to keep it together.” Vlad nodded thoughtfully. “Well, whenever you need to blow off some steam, you know where to find me. Just don’t tackle me like you did at practice today.” Asher winced at the memory. “Yeah, sorry about that. It’s been... a rough day.” “No worries, man. Just keep that strength for the field,” Vlad said with a wink. Asher laughed as he looked at his friend. What he did not share with his friend was also that he had seriously considered Vlad as his future Beta, despite Vlad’s laid-back attitude. The current Beta couple, James and Tamsin, were strong and dependable, but their daughter Jane, while sweet, didn’t seem inclined towards the role. Plus that she was quite young, maybe 10 years old, so the gap would be considerable between them. Asher wasn’t sure if she would ever take up the mantle, and he needed someone he could trust implicitly. Vlad fit the bill. Coming from a respected family of warriors, Vlad was skilled in combat, and despite his flamboyant personality, he was smart and quick on his feet. As they neared the event hall, Asher’s thoughts turned serious again. The monthly Pack Dinner was an important event, where all the top families gathered to discuss matters of the pack, celebrate achievements, and maintain the unity of their community. His mother, Luna Lora, hosted it with grace and pride, ensuring everyone felt welcome. Asher loved these gatherings, but tonight he felt more on edge than usual. Entering the hall, Asher scanned the room, his eyes immediately locking onto the Alpha’s table where his parents were already seated. His father, Alpha Azriel Storm, sat with a commanding presence, flanked by the Beta and Gamma families, as well as the Delta couple, Tim and Dana. And seated next to them, as always, was Bella. The moment he saw her, his heart stuttered. Bella caught his gaze, her eyes lighting up as she smiled warmly at him, the kind of smile that always made him forget the world for just a second. But instead of grounding him as usual, this smile smashed through the walls of his carefully constructed composure, sending a bolt of electric energy straight through him, directly into his groin area. “f**k!” he thought. He clenched his fists, fighting the familiar surge of desire that pulsed through his body. Every time he saw her, it was the same, this pull, this raw, undeniable attraction that threatened to unravel him. And today, it was stronger than ever. “Asher, come join us!” his mother called, her voice warm as she motioned for him to take his place at the table. But Asher barely heard her. His entire focus was on keeping himself together, on stopping the flood of emotions that Bella’s smile had triggered. His body was reacting again, and he could feel the heat creeping up his neck, his muscles tightening with the effort of control. With a curt nod in Bella’s direction, he forced himself to remain distant, his expression cold. “Excuse me, I will come back,” he muttered under his breath, barely able to manage the words before turning sharply on his heel and heading for the door. The fresh air hit him the moment he stepped outside, but it did little to calm the fire burning inside him. His hands trembled as he clenched them, struggling to keep himself in check. If he hadn’t left the room, if he’d stayed just a moment longer, there was no telling what he might have done. He felt the weight of his father’s sharp eyes on him from inside the hall. No doubt they will have a discussion later about his abrupt exit. But that was a conversation for later. Right now, Asher had to regain control of himself before his emotions betrayed him completely. Asher paced restlessly outside the event hall, his hands clenching and unclenching as he tried to regain control. The cool air helped a little, but it wasn’t enough. His thoughts were still a mess. He gritted his teeth, trying to focus on his breathing. In and out. Calm. Control. Suddenly, a voice interrupted his thoughts, its tone overly sweet and grating on his nerves. “Asher, hi!” He turned, already annoyed, and came face to face with Diana, the head cheerleader and niece of Dr. Luigi, the pack’s doctor. Her blonde curls bounced as she stepped closer, her eyes flashing with interest. Diana had always been a little too eager around him, and tonight was no different. He gave her a curt nod, turning his back to her without a second thought. He wasn’t in the mood for this, especially not now. But Diana, of course, didn’t take the hint. “Are you okay?” she asked, her voice dripping with false concern. “You look... agitated.” Asher shot her an irritated look, hoping that would be enough to send her away. His phone buzzed in his pocket, and he quickly checked the screen. It was a message from his mother: *Inside… now. Your father is about to give his speech.* He clenched his jaw in frustration, knowing he wasn’t in control yet. The last thing he wanted was to face the entire pack, especially when he felt like his body was on the verge of betraying him. Just then, Diana stepped even closer, and before he could react, she reached out and touched his arm. The moment her hand made contact with his skin, Asher froze. He looked down at her hand with disgust, the touch repulsive in a way he couldn’t describe. Every instinct in him screamed to pull away, but at the same time, a crazy thought crossed his mind. Maybe if he kissed her, the revulsion he felt would shock his system back into control. The idea was insane, but in his state, he was desperate. Maybe if he did something so utterly wrong, it would push back the wild, burning desire that Bella ignited in him. Without thinking, Asher grabbed Diana, pulling her into his arms. The second their lips touched, the feeling that surged through him was worse than a cold shower. Revulsion hit him like a wave, washing over him, freezing him from the inside out. He felt nothing but disgust, his body rejecting the kiss entirely. It worked, he was back in control, but the relief was short-lived. A loud gasp cut through the air, and Asher’s eyes snapped open. He broke the kiss immediately, releasing a stunned Diana who looked up at him in awe and happiness. But his focus had already shifted. He turned to the source of the sound and felt like he’d been punched in the gut. Bella stood just a few feet away, her eyes wide, her face pale, as if she’d just witnessed something she couldn’t quite believe. Her expression was a mix of shock and hurt, her blue eyes shimmering with emotion. She looked like a deer caught in headlights, frozen for a second before she blinked rapidly, regaining some composure. "Luna Lora was asking for your presence,” Bella said, her voice slightly shaky. There was no anger, only a quiet, wounded edge that cut deeper than anything else. Without waiting for his response, she turned on her heels and quickly made her way back inside the hall. Asher stood there, frozen in place, his mind racing. *Damn. Damn!* His heart felt like it had been ripped from his chest. He’d made the worst decision possible, and now Bella had seen everything.
