Chapter 8

I pushed him away from me and he stumbled back frowning in confusion. I couldn't do this. Can't do it again. I walked away from him and into my room and locked myself. I slid down the door in deep thought. It was as if the history was repeating. No. I shook my head. I won't fall for him again. With that thought, I slept that night. Next day morning I made idli and chutney for breakfast. I had no idea about his lunch plans and he seemed to wake up later than me so I prepared dal rice, just in case he needed a takeaway lunch from home and packed a similar lunch for me too. Work was a blur. With only four people in office, you never even know when the time flies by. I sighed looking at the clock that was telling me that it's 6 in the evening. All the people with whom I shared workspace started to leave and I just sighed. "Mits," Rahul said, who owned a start-up called a2z. He smiled at me and asked why I haven’t left yet. I just shook my head at him and started to log out of my work. People have always looked down on my job but only I know how challenging it actually is. By the time I reached home, hardcore music was blaring from the house. I cautiously opened the door for a second wondering if I've entered the wrong house. There is the darkly lit room sat Shiva, in his shorts and tank top. He was sweaty and I doubt if he even took a bath. The x-box was the source of noise and he was too engrossed into the game that he didn't even realise that I just walked in. His brow furrowed, bottom lip pulled in by his teeth and his fingers moving skilfully on the joystick... it was a sight to see. He looked like an excited kid imprisoned in the body of an overgrown ape. "f**k you. f**k you bastard", he cursed loudly throwing the joystick on the wooden coffee table, making me jump in fright. "Shiva", I called out for him. He turned his head towards me with a huge grin on his face like he won the lottery. I pointed my ears and he turned off the noise. "Do you have any worry about the neighbours? They might file a complaint of noise pollution and nuisance" I said seriously "f**k them" he snorted. "I own the house," he said arrogantly and walked towards the refrigerator "So? We live in a society and if we want to continue that then we have to follow some rules and decorum" I said following him "It’s my house", he said drinking beer from a can, I rolled my eyes at his stupid excuse, "so you'll ignore if our neighbour keeps up the volume at night and say it's his house and he is free to do whatever he wants. Even though this is our home, we don't own the entire society so next time you wanna play x box, turn down the volume" he stopped drinking and stared at me weirdly. "What?" I asked irritated He cleared his throat and replied, “tomorrow there is a party at our house" he stated. I gave him a levelled look and he continued, “my employees were congratulating me on our wedding and the conversation turned in such a way that they self-invited themselves for a party and I didn't have an option to counter that", I scoffed, "you didn't have an option? Aren't you the boss?" "I didn't want to say no" he replied "Don't take such decisions without asking me first. I have a lot of work tomorrow" I said angrily and walked away. "What does that mean?" He asked in confusion "It means that it's your party and you have to entertain your own guests" "There will be a lot of eligible bachelors; you still don't want to come?" I banged the door shut in reply. What s**t?! He tells me that he expects me to sleep with him like a wife and then he taunts me that I might be interested in his stupid party just because a lot of eligible bachelors will be there. What does he think of me? It is his party. No one can make him do something he doesn't want to. I am sure he invited them home on purpose. I don't care if everyone thinks I am a b***h. I am not going to entertain that stupid party.
