Chapter 6

Finally, it was time for my actual married life to begin. After a lot of wedding rituals, photographs, blushes and smiles, everyone eventually left our house and it was just me and him. What surprised me the most was that even his family left just like every other relatives. Neither his mother tried to give me the 'take care of my son' talk, nor anyone tried to befriend me with overdramatic affection. As much as I have known, through my cousin's wedding and marriages, this didn't seem like the regular case. It was all too confusing and new. However, I somehow didn't feel like asking Shiva about it, so I let it go. I went to bed that night with a relaxed sigh, basking in the loneliness. I know how much I missed being alone and in my own space. But, the next morning when I woke up, I was greeted with the most amazing view ever, Shiva's bare chest and his chiselled abs. My mind and heart fought over each other at the sight. While my heart sang carols at the amazing view, my mind which kept reminding me of the fights and quarrels wanted me to hate it. My mouth fell open and I blamed dehydration for the sudden dryness of my throat. I distinctly remember closing the door to my bedroom, then how did it open wide? Moreover, in this two bedroom apartment, didn't he find a better place to do his morning workout, than the place that is right in front of my room? I let out an irritated sigh and got up from the bed, tying my loose hair into a messy bun. He continued his pushups without removing his eyes from me, while I walked to the kitchen. There were hardly any groceries in the kitchen cabinet and I made a mental note to go shopping. "We need to buy groceries", his voice made the hairs on my neck stand up. I didn't turn around though. I couldn't let him see the reaction he had on me. "You heard me or not?" He asked, and I could hear that little frown that would be etched onto his face. "Yeah" I cleared my throat, "I can get that done myself. You don't have to..." he cut me off as his shoulder brushed my arm and he stood beside me, taking the water jug from my hand with which I was going to make tea for us. "I want to", he said while making tea with his skilful hands. "I want to see how much bill our monthly grocery makes. Want to keep an account of it", "I am wise myself when it comes to money. Did you forget who the irresponsible one was?" I retorted with a frown "No. I remember everything" he emphasised on everything and turned to me with a glare. "Stop taking every word that comes out of my mouth in a negative way. I want some personal stuff too which I'd like to buy, for which I have to come and I don't see sense in going shopping two times for the same house", "Fine" I sighed angrily and he handed over the teacup to me and walked away, shirtless. A sense of déjà vu passed me. **** We were lucky that the metro supermarket was pretty close to our house. We could buy almost everything that we required for our house. Shiva and I entered the store after getting a card done on our name. The trolleys were huge compared to the other supermarket trolleys, which is another thing that I love about metro. We walked silently and because it was a weekday, the crowd was pretty less. We reached the stationery aisle, I looked at Shiva and he raised his eyebrows at me. That was the only question I was going to get out of him. I picked a few pens, notebooks, other stationery items which I might need. I also had plans for a study room, which might have to be postponed due to the space crunch. Next the groceries, snacks, spices, all the sections passed and soon we were requiring a second trolley. Somehow the almost silent shopping with my husband seemed fun and relaxing. Half of my brain was relishing the feel whereas the other half was worried sick with anticipation. I didn't know exactly what to make out of my life.
