“Daddy!” Athena cried, her pained voice ricocheting in the room.
Hermione, who was sleeping soundly, woke up to Athena’s sobs. She immediately stood up and approached Athena.
“Athena, what happened?” Hermione asked, her tone laced with worry.
“Daddy’s gone!” Athena exclaimed, uncontrollably sobbing. “He promised me he wouldn’t leave, but he’s gone again, Mommy!”
Hermione’s heart sank for her daughter. She wrapped Athena in her embrace.
“Sshh. Daddy might just be downstairs and doing something, okay?” Hermione consoled, gently tapping her daughter’s back.
“What your Daddy promises, he fulfills,” she added, her tone confident.
Hermione didn’t know why those words came out of her mouth, but she trusted Elijah more than anyone.
