Chapter 7

~Xander POV~ “Excuse me, Mr. Mathers? I have some news on Jane Doe.” a voice said in my doorway. I looked up to see Margie standing there with a discerned looking face. “Come in Margie, what news do you have for me so soon?” I said as I directed her to come in and sit in the chair across from me as I put my pen down and placed my hands on the armrest of my chair. “Well, it is not much sir but I thought I would let you know that there has actually been nothing filed on a missing bride.” My interest now peeked as how could this be? Lifting my eye brow as I wondered. “Are you sure Margie? Did you reach out at least five miles?” a little taken back that no one had filed a missing persons report. “Yes sir I am absolutely sure, that’s why I came to tell you. I thought it odd myself Mr. Mathers… and I actually asked police stations ten miles out sir.” making sure I knew how serious she was taking this information. “I see. Have you told anyone else about this?” concern now lacing my voice. “No sir. It did not seem normal for a young woman to be missing in a wedding gown and no one filed a report on her right away.” “Thank you Margie. Please keep me informed if anything new develops on this matter.” she nodded then started to stand and walk towards the door before I also said, “Let’s keep this between us for now Margie. I have a feeling something's not right here and her safety could be at risk.” she nodded with a small smile and then left my office to go back to her desk. That is bizarre to say the least. Why would there be no missing person’s report filed? I know it’s only been a short while, but she looked like she had been running for a long distance by the time she had ran into the middle of that intersection. She was wearing a wedding dress for God’s sake! Surely someone noticed she was missing!! Something just does not add up. Shaking my head to relieve the continual questioning thoughts, I muttered out “get ahold of yourself Xander. She’s in the hospital, let them worry about her.” nodding to myself in agreeance as I shake my head out. As if you really could. He heard his consciousness say to him but ignored it like usual. Xander couldn’t understand why his thoughts were surrounded by this mystery girl. Xander finished out the rest of his work day without any further incidents. Even his lunch with John was as usual. Watching the ladies as the ladies watched them smiling and smirking to themselves after a flirt here and there. Just as Xander was finishing the last task there was a knock on his office door. “Hey Xander are you coming tonight?” John asked in a calm demeanor as he sat down in the chair across from Xander. “Yep! Just finishing up this last thing here and I should be ready to head down in about thirty minutes.” he said looking up, then leaning back in his chair. Xander ran his hands through his thick hair and rested them on the back of his neck and sighed. “Hard day Xan? You look like you could use a good stiff drink... and loose woman.” John smirked as he spoke. Xander just laughed and shook his head at his friend’s antics. “Well let me finish this up and we both can get this stiff drink and then see about a loose woman.” winking at John as he just laughed. Now Johnathon was a good looking man. He had a sharp jawline, tan with brown hair neatly cut above his ears. Jonathan also knew he looked good and flaunted it whenever he got the chance. He and Xander together made other men jealous because whenever they were around all the women swooned over them. They looked like a million bucks and acted like it too. John left to change his clothes and came back about an hour and half later cleaned up and ready for the night. When Johnathon had returned, Xander had already used the restroom in his office to brush his teeth, wash up and get changed for the night ahead. He didn’t need to go home for a change of clothes because he normally kept a set or two at the office for those just in case purposes and then freshened his scent with a spray of cologne. “Hey Xander you in here?” John called out from just within the office door frame. “Yeah John, I’m in the restroom cleaning up, be out in a sec. Grab a drink if you want. I pulled the bar out.” John smiled to himself as he walked over the mini-bar hidden behind Xander’s desk that was now exposed from the hidden wall panel and poured himself a Jack neat. Just as Johnathon downed the second drink Xander walked out, “Let’s go man. Don’t want to keep those fine young ladies waiting now do we?” smirking as he said this. Jonathan closed the mini-bar back up as he pushed the secret button under Xander’s desk. He watched as the bar slid backwards into its hidden compartment and the wall closed back tightly to not give away the secret it held. As they left the office and headed down the corridor to get to the third floor for the night he said, “Xan this is going to be a night!” as he clapped and rubbed his hands together.
