Tension fills the table.
The sun shines in blinding rays outside and the blue sky looks so peaceful. Everything around me seems to be doing well and looking good… until Ethan decided to show up without notice in what was supposed to be our married house turned into my own. Now, everything and everyone is tense… but not me.
As I picked up another cutted piece of bacon and brought it to my lips, I could still feel his lingering secret glances towards me. We are seated on each end of the table. It is supposed to be one of those days when the actual marriage life is felt after it is almost impossible already when he decided not to live here after the wedding, but not today.
Not after I caught him banging another woman in a party where he is supposed to be my husband and she is supposed to be my best friend.
“Celine,” He carefully calls for my name as I give him my attention with a straight face, making him gulp hard. “Can we talk?”
“Do we still have to?” I bluntly argued. “I think what I witnessed is enough explanation.”
Him f*****g my best friend in the restroom of a 5-star hotel while an elite party is being held just meters away only means one thing—affair. There is nothing more to explain but only a single word to explain all of it. So… why bother?
“But Celine, please… at least let me say my side.” I shut my mouth this time and just let him. “I’m really sorry, okay? I should have told you and I shouldn’t have done it there. I know that I am wrong on this one, but didn’t we agree that we won’t mess with each other’s personal lives even after marriage?”
I nod my head simply. “We did. That is why I don’t care what you do or who you want to f**k to,” I put down my fork and knife, giving him a piercing gaze. “But the least you can do is flirting around and f*****g my best friend.”
He gulps hard and lets out a sigh. “It was my fault for involving her in it but…” He lowers his head, acting like I am the one who is making him look so down. “I can’t control my feelings, Celine. I hope you understand that.”
I squint my eyes on him, in disbelief for his own words.
Feelings.
That word has always been invalidated in the world we live in. We can never feel hurt. We can never feel sad. We can never feel weak nor strong. We can never feel happy or excited. We can never love something more than our family businesses. We can never say no. And most of all… we can never disobey our parents' words. So for him to ask me to understand his feelings, it’s ridiculous.
A heavy sigh escapes my lips as I wipe the sides of my lips before standing up and looking down at him. “More like you can’t control your damn hormones.” I argued, sarcastically. “Ethan, you don’t get to ask me to understand you. Heck, you don’t even get to say a word because it f*****g annoy me. Like I said, I don’t care whoever you want to impregnate as long as you will do you part in this marriage… but I never said that you f**k my best friend instead.”
“Celine—”
“You crossed the line too much, Ethan John Cardeo. And because of that, it makes me sick to even think that I am bearing your surname forcefully.” I shake my head in disgust. “You really have no shame.”
I turned to my back without waiting for his response. I don’t need to hear anything from him because I care less of his side of the situation. What is important to me is… Melissa’s side.
It is as if someone heard my thoughts, the main door suddenly opened, revealing a well-dressed Melissa—entering the room in her two piece blazer top and skirt with a pair of heels on. Her hair has these soft curls on the edge and she has a fiercer make up than her usual normal look. She came here for a purpose.
“I don’t remember inviting a slut in my home.” I exclaimed right away, not minding her. I look back to Ethan with a scoff. “You really do have guts to play around shamelessly. It makes me disgusted to think that I ended up marrying a stupid jerk like you.”
“Celine, that is crossing the line!” He tried to argue.
A smirk forms my lips before I pick up my purse from the couch. I was about to leave the house without any care but stopped after feeling Melissa’s gaze on me. She has this confident b***h face on, making me want to slam that traitor’s face into the ground.
“You just really had to mess with me, don’t you? After everything…” I frustratedly said, feeling the anger forming inside my best.
“It’s not every single time you will have everything even if you don’t want it to. I am just getting what I want, Celine.” She defended her b***h ass.
A scoff escapes my lips as I form a short, small smirk before keeping a straight face. “Then you better get yourself ready because you will be paying for it. You broke my trust, I will ruin everything that will break you in return.”
I caught the glimpse of fear in her eyes, as she should! She has the guts to come here knowing that it is the place that I live in after what I witnessed last time. Instead of being sorry, she had to pull her sorry ass in here, looking overly confident that she cheated with my husband and has been betraying me behind my back.
I should have caught them from the beginning. If only I did, then this stupid marriage wouldn’t last longer.
“Since you look like you made a choice after asking me to understand your feelings,” Ethan looks at me, expecting, only for it to be replaced with wide eyes after hearing my next words. “I want you out of this house and never go back again because you wouldn’t have any rights in this house anymore the moment my lawyers came here and made you sign the divorce papers.”
“That’s ridiculous! We both know that you will lose more than I will once you divorce me.” He tried to sound tough but he obviously failed. “You will get in trouble with your father.”
I took a deep breath and crossed my arm to my chest. “I don’t care. I am always a trouble in my father’s eyes anyway. I wonder what your father would say after the divorce is final?” The smirk he put on earlier when he boasted about losing less slowly disappears, making me smirk in victory. “It only hits you now, does it? Maybe you should have thought about that first before playing around behind me with my best friend who turned out to be the biggest b***h in the room.”
All these years, I let this marriage go on even if the only marital thing between Ethan and I was me using his surname. May it be the first year, the second, or the third, I have always thought of ways how I can end or escape this marriage, but I always end up failing to do so. There is no reason to divorce him because if I do divorce him, I will get in trouble with my father. Just when I thought that I will end up living my life until I die married to a man that I don’t even want, he just had to give me one valid reason to divorce him.
Maybe I should be thankful for him still for giving me that reason… but he just had to involve the person I trust the most in this world.
“I expect both of you out of my house once I return or else…” I fix my blazer and gazes at them, each. “I will have you both dragged out of here forcefully.”
I didn’t let them say a word anymore and just left.
It was the first step of my freedom from marriage… but it won’t be the last one to get back to them.
I stopped on my tracks after hearing my phone ring. When I check it, Timothy’s name pops up in the caller ID, making me confused. How did he even get my number?
“Hello? Mr. Young? How did you get my number?” I questioned right away.
[“I have my ways. But that is not why I called. I want to set up an appointment with you.”] I raise a brow as if he can see me. [“I feel like we have something very important we need to discuss.”]
