Chapter 8

1122 Words
Waking up, I looked around myself. I was still in the office, my fathers sitting near me. Our eyes meet. Trying to figure out why I was waking up. My wolf threw my memories at me. Helping me remember what had happened. “How long have I been out?” My voice was horse. “About 10 minutes. Do you want to tell us what is going on?” Dad Ryder asked. “I have no idea. The second I saw Ember, I felt like my heart was being ripped from my chest.” I ribbed at my temples as I could feel a headache yelling at me. “We need you to tell us everything that happened on your mission and since you got back,” Dad Ryder instructed. I sat and went over everything that had happened. Including what the witch had done before we destroyed her. Finally ending on the nightmare, I had last night. Both of them looked perplexed. “Do you have any idea what might be going on?” I asked, the silence was eating away at me. “We need to go see the Seers. They will be able to help.” Dad Jace abruptly stood and headed out the door. We moved outside and headed for the cottage she lives in. We didn’t even get the opportunity to knock before she opened the door. This Seer has always creeped me out a little. Her eyes are missing the color. She is blind. “Come in, your majesty.” She gave us a bow. Opening the door all the way to allow our large forms to come through. We moved into the small cottage. It was small, but welcoming. The walls were filled with writing. Each Seer leaving behind wisdom for the next. The kitchen was very small, but it was filled with the usual items: fridge and stove. It was a found building which gave the house a different feeling about it. Plants grew across the ceiling and down the walls. They were full of life and covered in small flowers of all different colors. Thankfully, the ceiling is taller, which provided us with the room we needed. “Come sit.” She motioned for each of us to take a seat. Thankfully, she had a very large wooden couch. It looked as though it would be uncomfortable, but the cushions on it hid the hardness of the wood well. “We are in need of your assistance,” I started. “I am aware of your situation, young prince. Darkness surrounds you and is clouding your heart.” Abruptly she stands and starts coming towards me. Her steps are flawless and are almost silent. I watched her closely, my wolf came forward, causing our eyes to glow. He wanted her to know he was there as well. “Take no offense, wolf. I am here to help you.” She had her hand up in surrender. I nodded, giving her permission to continue. She gently placed her frail hand on my chest, right over my heart. She closed her eyes and I felt a warmth radiated from her hand. He could feel something tugging at his heart. Like something was there, but it was refusing to let go. “You have been cursed.” Her voice broke the silence. Her words washed over me like a bucket of ice water. “What kind of curse?” I could feel fear consuming my mind. “The witch, she has cursed your mate bond. She could feel like I can, that it is weak. She knew if you spent enough time around each other, the bond would grow. As we all know, if you do not spend time together and get to know one another, the bond cannot grow. The curse will call you immeasurable pain each time you are too close to her, attempt to communicate with her, or connect to her.” Her eyes were staring at mine as though she could see my soul. “What am I supposed to do then?” Frustration grew within me. Feeling my wolf pacing in my mind. “We must break the curse, but that will be almost impossible. Since the witch no longer lives, we will have to find an alternative.” “Where do we start?” Dad Jace asked her. I sat there silent as I was processing what she had said. There was a possibility that Ember and I would no longer be mates. She barely felt the mate bond when we found out. Now, she was going to have to remain away from me. All of the stress of the back and forth was now all for nothing. She was going to find out and leave. There was no reason for her to fight for us. My wolf howled in my mind at my thoughts. He could still feel the mate bond, but I could not. At this point, she and I could walk away from one another, but the problem was, without rejection, my wolf would be tortured for the rest of our lives. “I may have a way for you to be around each other for short periods of time. No more than an hour a day. You will still feel pain, but it will not kill you.” She removed a stone from her pocket. Moving her hands in designs, she created a necklace with a pendant. Bringing it to her lips, she kissed the stone, it glowed a blue color. Then she set out her hands so it floated over to me, up and around my neck. I felt it warm on my skin. The pull on my heart seemed to shrink away. I felt some relief. Not realizing it, I was taking a deep breath with relief. “Should you need me further, I am here, my prince. All you must do is call me. But I warn you, watch carefully how much time you are with your mate. If you go over, the curse will squeeze your heart until it stops.” Standing, I gave her a small headbow out of respect and appreciation for her help. We all exited the cottage and walked away. Dad Ryder suggested we go for a longer walk. We had a lot we needed to get figured out. Walking through nature helped me to clear my mind. My wolf had quieted, but I could still feel his turmoil. By the time we were done, all we were able to come up with was a plan to go back to the witch coven we helped. They owed us help. We were going to be calling for a favor.
